I was not the guy in khaki shorts and a golf polo who threw a Subway sandwich at an FBI officer on U Street last night and is now being charged with a felony. But free my mans
Godspeed sandwich man ๐ซก
Brett is in court today for this walk-by sandwiching of what turned out to be a Border Patrol agent, not an FBI agent, and the trial reporting is full of amazing quotes. [link] #freebrett
Big day at U.S. District Court in D.C. where Sean Dunn Brett Afloweroutofstone, the D.C. Sandwich Guy, is on trial for misdemeanor assault of a federal officer. Border Patrol agent Gregory Lairmore is on the stand narrating surveillance video of the sammie toss. 'Now heโs struck me with the sandwich,' Lairmore says. Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest. The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says. "I could smell the onions and mustard." Defense tells judge they want to question Lairmore about 'gag gifts' he received from fellow officers after the alleged assault, including a Subway sandwich plush toy and a patch that (unless I misheard) said 'Felony Footlong.' Prosecutors object. Defense argues they reflect CBP 'state of mind.' Defense is now questioning Lairmore on cross-examination. They show a video still of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground, post-throw. "Do you recognize that sandwich?" the attorney asks. Lairmore won't confirm. "I did not go back to collect it," he says. The defense team presses Lairmore on whether the sandwich really 'exploded.' They return to the photo of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground. "That sandwich hasn't exploded at all, has it?" defense asks. "It looks like a little bit is coming out towards the bottom," Lairmore replies. Lairmore testifies that other agents gave him a plush sandwich toy, which he placed on the shelf in his office, and a patch that said "Felony Footlong," which he put on his lunch box. Lairmore has chuckled with the rest of us at times. Defense really trying to underscore the unseriousness of it all
Not guilty! Feds had to downgrade his charges and they still failed to get a jury to convict #IโmFree

A bystander's video captured Sean Charles Dunn in August calling federal officers racists and fascists. He thought they were about to do an immigration raid at a gay nightclub on Latin Night.

โThe Militarization of the Police Department โ Deadly Farce,โ an original painting by Richard Williams fromย โThe 20 Dumbest People, Events, and Things of 2014โณ in Mad magazine #531, published by DC Comics, February 2015.
Hereโs the original, for comparison. And hereโs a bit more about the artist and why he created the piece above for MAD Magazine.
Richard Williams on Norman Rockwell:
โFor most people, he was the painter of โAmerica,โโ he added. โBut even he said his vision was what he wanted โAmericaโ to be. It was a mythical โAmerica,โ a place where all people were decent, honest and full of good will. His work was full of gentle humor that made you feel a little better; even if you knew it wasnโt really trueโฆ you just wished it was. My parody of Rockwellโs painting simply says, โThat myth is dead.โโ
I think itโs relevant to add that even Norman Rockwell chose to leave his cushy job at the Saturday Evening Post because he wanted to make artwork that was more radical. The Post had rules that wouldnโt allow him to do artwork depicting black people as anything other than servants. The job paid really well and that was a huge reason he continued on. But he wanted change that and so he moved to Look magazine.
A lot of people know about the very first piece he did when he left the post which was the The Problem We All Live With which depicts Ruby Bridges walking to school under federal protection.
But I donโt think enough people know about Murder in Mississippi which depicts three real civil rights activists who were murdered by the Ku Klux Klan and sherriffs. The magazine ran the sketch instead of the finished piece because they felt it had a more striking statement to accompany the article. Norman Rockwell would finish that version after publication which is here
Rockwellโs legacy is sanitized because he decided to maintain his job at the Post for so long despite his frustrations with not being able to express himself. The civil rights movement was just his final straw to change what he could with the little time he had left. Look magazine received a lot of hate for Rockwell painting these as well.
Another favorite piece of mine is The Right to Know which depicts an integrated populace questioning their government. In 1968, the year of Vietnam and the year the Fair Housing Act only just got signed in months prior:
But I think itโs important to include the caption Rockwell originally wrote for the piece as well. I think it represents how a 74 year old Rockwell felt about the America he believed in and the people in it:
We are the governed, but we govern too. Assume our love of country, for it is only the simplest of self-love. Worry little about our strength, for we have our history to show for it. And because we are strong, there are others who have hope. But watch us more closely from now on, for those of us who stand here mean to watch those we put in the seats of power. And listen to us, you who lead, for we are listening harder for the truth that you have not always offered us. Your voice must be ours, and ours speaks of cities that are not safe, and of wars we do not want, of poor in a land of plenty, and of a world that will not take the shape our arms would give it. We are not fierce, and the truth will not frighten us. Trust us, for we have given you our trust. We are the governed, remember, but we govern too.

I do really think that the use of ChatGPT and genAI by students highlights the fundamental flaw of our education system focusing almost entirely on grades and test scores rather than generating curiosity and inquiry, which produces individuals who fundamentally do not understand that the purpose of an assignment is meant to be to learn *how* to do something, not simply to produce a product you can turn in to get an A+
โTo sit alone or with a few friends, half-drunk under a full moon, you just understand how lucky you are; itโs a story you canโt tell. Itโs a story you almost by definition, canโt share. Iโve learned in real time to look at those things and realize: I just had a really good moment.โ
โ Anthony Bourdain, in his final interview
the funniest and most tragic moment in steven universe is the scene that implies that Pearl pulls bitches like a professional dog walker but doesn't know how phones work so her place on earth is being a life-changing futch fling for every dyke on the east coast there's probably a gay bar in maryland where they talk about the twiggy bird chick that eats milf pussy like it's the last edible thing on earth and they dont even know about the city full of thousand year old neon lesbian amazons who are pent up 24/7 from The War and leaving room for jesus cause they're always hanging out with their softboy nephew who might be the second coming of christ
You will freeze in place if you remain this way. You must not, dear. You have to move.
