So, I was writing up a response to a pretty old Ask about Miraculous World: New York in my Classic Kwami Swap AU, when I realized I couldn't actually fully answer that ask without writing an equally long explanation of the events of Feast in this AU, and the aftermath that follows it. And how that whole clusterfuck contributes to this worlds version of Fu's retirement, and what all comes from that.
The events of Feast itself more or less play out as cannon, with the small caveat that Feast is being controlled by Hawkmoth and Mayura basically the whole time, as in this world Feast was intentionally created by Fu to destroy the corrupted Order of Guardians and free as many Kwami(by destroying the miraculous') as it could, and only went dormant because it's task was fulfilled.
Feast itself is also handled a lot faster than in cannon, as Fu doesn't try to take the kids Miraculous or anything stupid like that, as he has no intense fear of Feast. Not to mention this Fu just trusts the kids a lot more, especially since they operated without his help for awhile after Plagg and Tikki chose them behind his back, and since he accepted them as holders and started training them himself, they've gotten even better.
The fight for them doesn't end with the Miracle Cure being cast on Feasts defeat, because Tikki's magic is far more potent than Fu even fully understood, and it repairs ALL the damage feast has ever caused. Meaning the orders main base, and all the people in it, are suddenly alive again. Meaning Fu's efforts as a child to stop the corrupted Order have just been undone. And they don't find out about it until they see the news later that day.
The moment he sees it, Fu dons the Horse Miraculous and essentially kidnaps Marinette and Adrien from their homes. He's only just explained the story of how the old order died, and why he had to kill it, basically just a few hours ago. So it's fresh in their minds when Horse!Fu yoinks them.
He basically tells them that if the order is back, it's def con 6, all hands on deck, and they have no time at all to waste. Every second the order has to recover from being dead and get their bearings is a second they inch closer to a fair fight against a near army of Holders who outnumber them ten to one, with centuries more experience using their Miraculous, most of whom have killed before.
So, though he's normally loathe to put any more Miraculous out into the world than necessary, Fu opens the box, and tells them to pick people they trust who learn quickly. And to get Sabrina and Chloe, who, like Mister bug and Lady noir, always keep their miraculous on them since being entrusted with them.
Which, since I haven't said it anywhere officially before: Chloe has the Ox Miraculous, and Sabrina the Mouse.
The kids mainly prioritize adults for their temporary wielders, as while Fu is willing to temporarily remove the restriction on power use for the 4 of them(if shadybug and claw had that in cannon, stands to reason it's doable for our kids, too), it's still dangerous and they'll be better off with wielders who can go all out without hurting themselves or recharging.
As such, the team they end up taking to the newly reformed monastery is as follows:
The Dragon miraculous goes to Adrien's fencing instructer Armand D'argencourt, becoming Dark Drake. Because, on short notice and only picking people they are certain will be able to give back the miraculous despite the temptation of power, Armand's intense insistence on being "honorable", and his skill with a blade, make him the best pick Adrien can think of to world the Dragons Sword in the scant moments they have to pick wielders.
The Turtle Miraculous goes to Placidde, Adrien's bodyguard, who becomes Galapagos. Because when asked to pick an adult he trusts to protect him, there really isn't another option for Adrien.
The Snake Miraculous goes to Jean Armand(I know according to cannon is just armand, but Chloe calls him Jean, and I don't wanna confuse him with D'argencourt), Chloe's butler and caretaker, who becomes the hero Monsieur Scales. Picked because the snake needs someone with a level head whose used to juggling multiple time sensitive things and managing multiple different kinds of extreme personalities all at once. And Chloe knows no one better at that than the only real positive adult influence in her life.
The Rooster Miraculous goes to Olga Mendeleiev, becoming Dr.Morning Call. Picked because she's already proven that she can keep the Kwami's a secret after Kwami Buster, and because her scientific and analytical mind seems like a good fit for a miraculous with infinite possibilities. Though she doesn't have much time to experiment now, Olga is more than prepared to rapidly assess and change powers until she finds the right one for a situation.
The monkey miraculous goes to Jagged Stone, becoming Citizen Simian. Jagged gets picked by Marinette, who, while I haven't really talked about it yet, is way more involved and serious about being Jaggeds designer than we see in cannon. So she knows Jagged fairly well, and while he's a goofy goober who can act like a child at times, he's also a good guy with a creative mind who can think on his feet. At least for one fight, she trusts him to wield the monkey and shut down the enemy holders they'll be facing.
The Bee miraculous goes to Penny Rolling, turning her into Lead Stinger. Penny gets picked because Mari knows her enough to trust her, shes calm under pressure, and because she's just right there when she gives Jagged the Monkey.
The Goat Miraculous goes to Gabriel Agreste, Adrien's father, who becomes Satyr. When having to pick an adult artist with creativity who he thinks can handle the power, Adrien ultimately doesn't feel like he has a better option than his own father. Though their relationship is strained, and his father has been a recluse for awhile, he still remembers a time when his father was bold, brave, and dependable for himself and his mother. Not knowing he's literally handing a miraculous to Hawkmoth himself, and without a lot time to pick someone else who he can find quickly, Adrien trusts his dad with the Goat. For his part, Gabriel manages to toss Nooroo's brooch into his desk and lock it before donning the goat, stopping this new Kwami, or anyone else, from realizing who he is.
The Tiger miraculous ends up with Nathalie, who becomes Indigo Stalker. She's mainly picked the way Penny is: she's nearby, and they know she's capable. But also, Adrien is aware that despite her job title being "Assistant", Nathalie has been protecting his father and mother more like a bodyguard for over a decade. He's seen her spar with Placidde, and show Marinette some pointers when she learned his girlfriend was taking some martial arts. He knows she's a more than capable combatant. And with the tiger hitting like a freight train, she's the best pick for it that he can find on short notice. Nath luckily wasn't wearing the peacock when this all happened. And yes, I did do this mostly because it's funny.
And, last but not least: the Fox Miraculous goes to Markov. Who becomes Fox.exe pronounced "Foxy". Remembering that Markov could be Akumatized, and needing all the advantages they can get over the old order, the team entrusts Markov with the temporary use of the Fox Miraculous. The thought is that his enhanced ability to compute and process data might help him create more complex illusions and run more illusions at a time. The order knows everything there is to know about the miraculous in the Motherbox, but they don't have any idea what an AI is, or what an artificial mind wielding a miraculous could do.
I know this isn't all of the miraculous, but this is who they can get on short notice, and the most important and powerful options for a miraculous holder v miraculous holder fight are covered.
Once assembled, Fu teleports them to the monastery, and this hastily assembled team goes in.
The fighting is brutal. And I'm not gonna go into detail here, because I will eventually write all of this up. But basically, they cut their way through the monastery, hitting a lot of them before they know to transform. Fu mainly hangs back and uses his powers sparingly, he's still really too old for this. And just all the teleports to get them here have been a lot on him. His main job is securing as many miraculous as he can from the fallen.
Things more or less run smoothly until they reach the center courtyard where Su Han waits.
Gabriel and Nathalie mostly behave up to this point, too. Mostly because they're too shocked to fully come up with a plan, but also because, as they listen to Fu and the kids very brief explanation of the Guardians and what they're here to stop, they realize that these people are their enemies, too.
After all, Gabe and Nat just want to bring Emilie back and have a world where their family is safe and complete. A group like the guardians is very much not one they want around. Their only issue with Bug and Noir is that they have the miraculous they need to save Emm, ultimately, they don't have any true hate for people trying to protect the city Emilie loved, they are just unfortunately obstacles right now. But the Guardians? They will be a threat. So best to snuff them out now.
Especially since Gabriel and Nathalie have heard others speak of an order of ancient hoarders of Kwami and magic that seems easily similar to this one, from other dangerous enemies, ones who, at least for now, think Gabe and Nath are on their side. The way Fu described the guardians is eerily similar to how the higher ups of The Kingdom talk about the "good old days".
But that aside, the fight with Su Han is rough. It's really the first time that Adrien and Marinette have to kill actual people. Specifically knowing they won't be bringing them back.
Ultimately, the fight ends with Lady Noir unlocking a new power for the Cat Miraculous "Disaster Curse", essentially the reverse of Miracle Cure, if lets her pick a category or group of things or people, and pinpoint cataclysm them in a massive range. She chooses "the members of the Guardians who were just brought back to life"not "all the Guardians" as she can't risk hitting Fu.) and basically thanos snaps them all back into dust.
However, this cataclysm only targets all the members of the order. Not the Miraculous they were carrying. Or the monastery and all it's knowledge. So though they just nuked the order, they now have dozens of miraculous, miracle boxes, and ancient knowledge just.... Sitting scattered across this mountain range.
What follows is a long and intense search for all the miraculous, aided by a few liberated miraculous with grateful kwami that help quickly recover the others.
But not all the miraculous are found. Some order members had left the temple, many with miraculous that aided long distance travel, and when they were cataclysmed, they dropped their miraculous far from the temple. There are now at least a double digit number of miraculous scattered around the world, with Fu now having his hands full caring for and securing somewhere around 30-50 individual Kwami and their Miraculous.
Some of these lost miraculous weren't just dropped by Guardians who escaped, though. Both Gabriel and Nathalie each snag a miraculous from a fallen Guardian, giving them access to miraculous that the Kingdom knows nothing about. Now, their plans against the others that had once just been ideas and wishes, are slowly becoming more and more possible.
I will detail these two new miraculous at a later date. Mainly because this has already taken me days to finish.
Gabriel and Nathalie do give back the Tiger and Goat, because it would be incredibly suspicious otherwise.
After they collect the miraculous they've handed out, Fu and the kids basically have a heart to heart sobbing session. The kids are tough. They can handle what they had to do, given time. But fu understands. He's been forced to kill remnants of the Guardians before. Hell, he killed the whole order before, too. He knows the stress that puts on you.
So he's there for his kids, his apprentices. Because he realizes now that's what they are. His trainees for whatever group will succeed the Guardians through him. He sees now there was never another outcome that would come to pass, he can't keep all of these Kwami secure anymore, not on his own. He needs to start letting people in. Training them in his philosophies, making sure they understand the responsibility of the miraculous, and that their use must be sparing, their powers never used lightly or for personal gain. That they are to be reverred. That they are partners, guides, and in some ways, their teachers, superiors and leaders, but never ever tools.
After this whole ordeal Fu begins earnestly training Adrien and Marinette not just as heroes, but as protectors of the miraculous, imparting everything he knows, and everything he's still learning from the books they have since recovered. During this time, Fu also begins slowly making plans to move himself and his vastly increased number of Kwami out of Paris. With hawkmoth aware of his existence, if not who exactly he is, it's best if he gets out of Paris.
Not out of France entirely, though. Much like in my Metamorphosis AU, Fu is retreating to a tiny provincial village in the middle of nowhere that doesn't even get Internet or cell service. They communicate with him through the miraculous built in communicators.
Here, in his new home, where he will eventually reunite with Marianne Lenoir, he and his now wife will work together to study and sort the surviving texts they rescued from the monastery, and make plans for what comes next for the fledgling order that will eventually be known as the Stewards of the Miraculous.
This sets up a new kind of problem for our kids, as now on top of hawkmoth, there are other miraculous at play out in the world now, and the only way to beat a miraculous, is with another miraculous.
Having been entrusted with the Mother Box by Fu when he left Paris, Adrien and Marinette face down a lot of new responsibilities going into what is the New York world special, but they are also much better prepared and trained for it, and are stepping into this role of caretaker of the Motherbox willingly and not at the last minute. Plus, though they try to do so sparingly, they can contact Fu in a pinch if they truly need some help.
Woo. That was a doozy. Added a LOT of divergencies to the series, too. Firmly taking us off the path of cannon beyond the "similar plot but with different characters and a few different outcomes" and putting us firmly on a path to a very, very different story.
I hope you guys enjoyed this and it isn't just a hot mess. Anyways, until next time!
