I was admiring pictures of the Lego Minas Tirith set and told my husband I wished it came with Boromir, and he goes, âWell, Boromir is dead.â
Theyâre a 10 but theyâre fictional and dead

Okay so Iâve been finding Faramir a very interesting figure recently when looking at the racialisation of the Haradrim through a âshadow of Gondorian imperialismâ lens when researching for my fic. Which is to say, in the context of race-in-Tolkien and the context of what is coming in the Fourth Age, I actually find him one of the most ominous figures looming over the upcoming Fourth Age conquest/enforced surrender of Harad/taking of Umbar⌠not because heâs bad or villainous, but because he manifestly is not, and is kind and good and gentle.Â
Because the argument for empire is always most dangerous in the mouth of its kindest defender, and a reading of his âI do not love the arrow for its swiftness etc etc, I love that which it defendsâ quote is just⌠so intriguing when thinking about what happens afterwards, when the orcs will very soon be all gone yet the Haradrim continue to live, have children, maintain economically useful territory (Havens of Umbar) that in the eyes of Gondor âneedsâ to be taken. And Faramirâs choices in the Fourth Age could have consequences that are either incredibly devastating or, potentially, somewhat hopeful.Â
âFarewell, Aragorn! Go to Minas Tirith and save my people! I have failed.â âNo!â said Aragorn, taking his hand and kissing his brow. âYou have conquered. Few have gained such a victory. Be at peace! Minas Tirith shall not fall!â Boromir smiled. âWhich way did they go? Was Frodo there?â said Aragorn. But Boromir did not speak again.
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers.
I started using Head and Shoulders ten years ago for itchy scalp and dandruff, and then for ten years I have not had itchy scalp and dandruff, so I thought âwhy do I still buy shampoo to combat itchy scalp and dandruff when I do not have itchy scalp and dandruff,â so I stopped buying the shampoo for itchy scalp and dandruff and can you guess I have now? Can you predict what currently afflicts me? Itâs alright if you canât because apparently I fuckin couldnât either
Cutting something out of your life because you think you donât need it any more only to realize that it was in fact working as intended and preventing a problem that will return should you stop doing this is a good experiment to run periodically with something small like dandruff shampoo, lest you start to think it would be a good idea to do this with like letâs say public health and the social safety net and vaccines
I had a liver transplant when I was 14 and like six months later I was chatting with my surgeon and he said âthereâs gonna come a time, probably when youâre a teenager, where youâre gonna think, âI feel great, why am I still taking all this medication? I havenât needed it in years.â and youâre gonna want to stop taking all this medication. Guess whatâs gonna happen then? Youâre gonna go into rejection and your liver is gonna start failing, and youâre gonna be dying again, and weâre gonna have to find you another liver. So donât do that.â And I said âwhy the fuck would anyone do that?â and he said âpeople are stupid.â
every once in a while when I get annoyed by a pharmacy or donât wanna get out of bed to do my drugs I think âugh, this is dumb, why do I do this?â and that conversation slams into me like a truck and I remember that I am, in fact, stupid

How to Watch Your Friendâs Son Die
The first thing that will happen is your friend will text you, âItâs not good news.â Her son had had a seizure, and then they found a tumor, and then he had surgery to remove it. You had been waiting to hear how the surgery went.
When you get that text, will immediately know what it means, but you will hope you are wrong.
Reblogging this in grief. He left us.
What a bright, silly force of good he was in our lives.

Literally. How do we get one? đ
You may have already spoken on this, but what Is your favorite Doomed moment/factor for our boy?
Is it the tragedy of it all, is it Boromirâs contributions to dooming himself, his being raised to die for his country, or anything else not listed?
(Also, congratulations on the manuscript! Interaction with the publishing industry as an observer is exhausting, I canât image the amount of work youâve put into it. Youâre one of my favorite writer-illustrators that I know of, and Iâm so glad you put your stuff into the world)
Thank you thank you! Thatâs very kind!
There are so many great doomed factors for Boromir, but lately Iâve been really loving the fact that the Valar super duper wanted Faramir, not Boromir. Faramir was supposed to be the one to go to Rivendell, recognize the legitimacy of Aragorn, and bring him back to gracefully install him on the throne of Gondor. Boromir was supposed to stay behind and continue defending against the onslaught of Mordor. Itâs what they each were cut out for.
And itâs all down to that one tiny line at the Council, âFor on the eve of the sudden assault a dream came to my brother in a troubled sleep; and afterwards a like dream came oft to him again, and once to me.â Maybe itâs because Iâve been deep in writing mechanics lately, but I love that Tolkien made this choiceâI love that he purposefully let this mistake be made. He could have easily left Faramir out of the equation and only sent the dream to Boromir, making Boromir more of a plot device, somebody to contrast Aragorn, provide opportunities for history- and world-building, and underline the Fellowshipsâ dire stakes via his death. But by sending the dream multiple times to Faramir and only once to Boromir, Tolkien tells us so much about these two characters, their relationship to each other, their roles in their country, and their specific tragedies. Boromir and Faramir never actually interact on the page, and yet it shows us this immense emotional thread connecting them together and to the greater story. It also brings a beautiful, tragic, mortal messiness to Aragornâs coronation. Things didn't happen the way they were supposed to happen! Victory was achieved, but at needless cost! I donât know man, itâs so subtle and so effective. I love it.
Here, I drew a picture:
Rivendell was hidden and protected by some kind of magic that meant you couldnât find it unless you were supposed to find it/Elrond had you on the guest list/something. So maybe itâs out there and the magic protecting it has an insanely long half-life and if I walked around long enough Iâd find it. In this grant proposal, I â
ĂOWYN OF ROHAN
finally got to take a crack at Ăowyn, pictured here in her starry mantle, commissioned by @lady-of-ithilien who was just fantastic to work with and had such an exciting vision of Ăowyn that I was delighted to try my hand at!
went full horse-girl with the gold brooch, rosy cheeks and freckles from riding out all the time, and a relatively light/layered dress, and I especially enjoyed working with @lady-of-ithilien âs choices on a darker golden hair shade (tousled because *gestures at riding*) as well as darker brows â¤ď¸đ
