Characters: Elrond & Camnir

Summary: Their first year in Imladris, Elrond is unable to celebrate his brother's birthday the way he used to. Camnir is there for him.

“It is the first time you’ve been away from the sea on this day,” he remarks quietly. “Yes,” Elrond whispers, pulling his legs up to his chest and wrapping his arms around them. He looks small like this, and with his curls wild about him, he reminds Camnir of the child he met all those years ago in a city that now only exists in their memories. “It shouldn’t be so difficult to bear.” Camnir’s heart aches for him. It always does on this day. He cannot remember the countless times he stood by Elrond’s side on Mithlond’s shores over the centuries and watched him send a candle across the water to celebrate the birthday of a brother whose loss he feels more keenly with each passing year.
