Guys. Do art and writing for yourself, not other people. Other people liking your creation is a bonus, but it should never be the motivation.
You will burn yourself out. Especially here on tumblr, where barely anybody sees stuff. I promise you, tumblr doesn't hate you just because you get little to no notes on your posts. Every post you make gets burried under everyone elses posts. And then their posts also get burried. Thats just tumblr for you.
I say this because I've seen a few people complain that they aren't getting enough attention on their posts. It feels weird to see that, because litterally thats not how tumblr works. You will starve as a creator if that is all you are going for.
Sure, there are accounts with a lot of people, but again numbers don't mean shit here. It's not twitter. It's not instagram. It's not facebook. It's tumblr. It's not a popularity contest. Even the most popular posts will get burried in the top tab eventually.
On my main blog I get up to 4 likes/reblogs. Sometimes I don't get anything. I still post. I still ramble. Because it wasn't made to get peoples attention, it was made to be my space on the internet.
Tumblr has remnants of a past most newbies to the web don't remember. Of a current web society still hidden in the depths of forggoten links. Where websites are about creating your own space, instead of just getting big numbers all the time. And even that, as you can see, is being eaten up by social media platforms clawing for your attention and time.
Monitizing attention is the worst thing the internet ever did.
