Buzzfeed Unsolved's The Hotdaga primary devolves into an extended thesis about the morality of time travel. In the story, the hologram Maizey attempts to return to former events to save her fiance Gebra and correct their wedding's dour ending. But what we are constantly reminded of throughout the plot is that in this world, time travel is both selfish and selfless.

Think of Brandon, who returns from the end of Timeline A to stop the Witch apocalypse. In doing so, we witness the death of Baby Brandon of Timeline B, who becomes a ghost hell-bent on revenge against his older alternate-timeline counterpart.

The slow realization is that while Maizey might be able to create a new timeline, it will be a world she will never be able to experience. As the group get closer to achieving this goal, they are surrounded only by death and chaos. Our Maizey will never again see her wife, Gebra, who is dead and always will be. But she can create a new version of herself and Gebra, children of a splintering path unknown to the original world.

In a way, time travel is depicted as a sort of generational trauma; an alien guilt and pressure passed on from lives forgotten.

In 2026, severe drought across Europe has caused water levels in major rivers to fall dramatically, exposing parts of the riverbeds that are normally hidden underwater. Along the Elbe River in Germany and the Czech Republic, this has once again revealed the ancient “Hunger Stones.”

These stones were carved centuries ago to mark periods of extremely low water levels. One of the most famous is located near Děčín, Czech Republic, and bears the chilling inscription: “If you see me, weep.”

The warning was not just symbolic. When the stone became visible, the low river level meant difficult conditions for agriculture, shortages of food and problems for river transport. Historical dates carved into the stone record previous periods of severe drought, with one of the oldest readable markings dating to 1616.
