growing up as a late diagnosed neurodivergent girl is sensing something’s different about you, but not having the words to describe it. like yeah, other girls have been inexplicably avoiding you since you’ve reached double digits and you’ve felt stunted for your age ever since. that feeling of never really being understood doesn’t goes away in your teen years. also for some reason, boys are really mean to you, tenfold if you’re not considered conventionally attractive. some teachers will dislike you out of nowhere, even if you’re just 14 years old and trying to survive. you feel like you’ve missed out on your formative years as you watch girls your age maintain friendships, wondering why that couldn’t be you. oh, and you probably develop some sort of mental illness from burnout and feeling alienated from everyone else.
