gender essentialism is soooo funny bc it's like "this is what women are like" and you're like "I've met women and many of them, if not the majority, have not been like that" and it's like "well women SHOULD be like that" and you're like "why should women be like that" and its like "because that's what women are like"
maybe they don't like being called names. have you ever thought about that
#if they don't like being called bin chickens then they should stay out of the bins
I'm sure they would LOVE to do that but unfortunately we turned their habitats into cities and farms so now they gotta look for other places where their long beaks specialised to dip into muck and water looking for tasty crustaceans can be put to use finding them food.
not my tweet but I thought it would be a good psa for artists here too
Oh this is a common scam I find at work. Any file that:
isn't jpg, jpeg, pdf, or png
Is a file extension you don't recognise (this one is a visual basic file, used for scripting, but others like exe or bat are used)
has a very low or unexpected file size (this one's is less than 1KB, or 0.001MB, a good reference should be at least 500KB)
Is likely a scam. Stay safe kids.

Day and night at the Parthenon. Yoshida Hiroshi, 1925.
I’ve featured this artist on my personal ‘artist of the week’ segment before! For anyone curious, these are actually woodblock prints, not canvas paintings! Hitoshi is well-known for incorporating western art techniques and sensibilities into his prints, which is why these almost feel like 19th century oil paintings rather than traditional Japanese prints.
Something to note is that both of these prints were made with the same wood blocks and inked separately, which is a process known as ‘betsu-zuri’. You can read more about that process here. Hitoshi used this technique a lot; his ‘Sailing Boats’ print set is my favorite example.
Anyway. Woodblock printing is a very cool process that I highly recommend you check out! The site I linked above has some great explanations if you’re interested.
ID / TL;DW: young Black man explains the history of voodoo dolls: they originated in England, where Black people where prohibited from learning to read or write, to help witches keep track of what ailed their patients. Eg., person goes to witch and laments headache, they treat their headache and make a small doll (called "poppet"), trying to represent them as good as possible, stick a needle in its head and put it up a shelf. When they return next week, the witch takes their poppet and asks about their headache. If it's gone, they remove the needle, otherwise they know they have to treat a rather persistent headache.
I'm just gonna freeze-frame this for everybody:
when you have the time, go watch the full video. it's informative, respectful, and genuinely powerful.
[Image description: a photo of text captioned anti-literacy laws, Boston, the liberator April 26, 1839. The photographed text reads: in Virginia, should free negroes or their children assemble at a school, to learn reading and writing, any justice of the peace may dismiss the school, with twenty stripes on the back of every pupil. Jay's inquiry, pg 23. In Louisiana, the penalty for instructing a free black in a Sunday school is, for the first offense, five hundred dollars, for the second offense, death. Pg 24. End description.]
Notes: "twenty stripes" means being whipped 20 times.
$500 in 1839 would be a fine of almost $18000 in 2026.
"Art" Scammers and You: A continuation of this nonsense.
The great thing about the internet is you can find the answer to just about anything. A stranger is not someone you trust and you should always do your own research!
What does this person want? (Money, usually, sometimes information.)
What evidence are they presenting to back up their claims.
Is there some form of consistency between the provided examples? (Even artists who can adapt to different styles will STILL have their own way of doing it.)
I am not an artist but I KNOW ART. I know that, in this day and age, (nearly) EVERYONE has at least one platform or another that they are regulars to.
ESPECIALLY DIGITAL ARTISTS!
Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, FurAffinity, DeviantArt, whatever the fuck else. A real person will have an internet footprint. That's how you get a following! That's how you can spread the word if you're taking commissions!! Now, the scammer gave me a website.
Creators tend to keep their "brand" name consistent across any platform that showcases their work. Or their site will have a real name that you can research from there. So I search the name of "their" website and get a multitude of various results because it is a common enough name.
I cannot stress enough that there have been SO many red flags in this conversation. Not to mention they deleted the one picture they DID send me.
Artists looking for commissions, even if they don't use social media, will have SOME gallery or portfolio. SOME form of proof that they are who they say they are. And due to the influx of AI nonsense, a lot of artists have started sharing the progress of their pieces to further prove they did actually make it.
They blocked me after this but I did report it to the server they found me through. You can look up domain information, as well, and the information provided also stated that the website hadn't been updated since December of last year.
TLDR:
Artists will not cold call you for commissions.
Scammers will try to "beat around the bush" until it's mulch instead of directly telling you why they're messaging you.
AI has no place in or near artistic endeavors.
Stay safe!
There's worse to come, folks. Strap in and stay strapped.
My faceblindness is JUST enough that I'm not certain if this is Hugh Laurie or just a scruffy white guy with blue eyes but he's DEFINITELY doing the Hugh Laurie mouth thing so I'm about 70% certain it is
No that's definitely Hugh Laurie.
Oh thank god.

Chat, is it considered “abusive roommate behavior” to release a raccoon into the living space after you have asked your roommate for months to please clean up their messes (they do not pay any of the mortgage)
For context, when I used to live alone I would do something called “Princess Time” where I would do an initial sweep (to remove any significant hazards) and then I would release a raccoon into the living area and clean. This helped because I would 1) feel like a princess and 2) the raccoon would bring attention to things my ADHD brain had decided to ignore and I’d quickly clean that stuff up.
So like, if I’m expected to clean the house now, I will be doing it in the way that is most effective for me. And anything that has not been cleaned up after months of having sit-down talks and sending reminders and being promised things will change, might be deemed “trash” by the trash panda and thrown away.
We haven’t done since we moved into the house, because I didn’t want to cause my roommate or their cats destress or have their things destroyed by a raccoon
I am a raccoon biologist and one of the few people in the state allowed to take in captive bred raccoons that had been possessed illegally. The raccoon in the photos is Moonshine, but she is currently at the animal sanctuary where I work as I had been quarantining multiple new intakes from an abuse case. I still have two males (Rum Tum Tugger and Electra) left in my home enclosure as we are getting them neutered and then hopefully sending them to an AZA accredited zoo.
I wanna make things very clear that underneath all the whimsy, I am a trained professional.
Those vibes are likely because I’m the original creator of Dashcon and my personality has not changed since 2012 lmao

if this isn't a great example I don't know what is

Equiping an armor tutorial
i'll prob make more bc i love talking ab armors
i like when you're petting an animal on the head and then remove your hand and then the animal puts their snout under your hand and flips your hand back onto the top of their head like they're a spatula with a burger patty. so far i have evidence that cats do this and that dogs do this. what else can i learn about this world...?
