Tried very hard to find a carnival this time of year, despite all of them being shut tight for the season— ends up buying something anyways, if only to see the look on your face.

My brain made a yummy idea.

Think of it, he's back home with his gran and the local kids. It's late after a long day. Bellies are hungry and everyone's a bit annoyed, but Ruggie knows that while life is hard, there's always hope. Even if it looks a bit twisted.

So why not use what he has to make life a little better for them.

He set up a old sheet before the fire, strung out with ties that barely hold onto its purpose and he's praying it stays up and doesn't catch on fire as he cups his calloused hands and calls attentions with a few animal sounds as his hands move through different shapes.

A dog, a bird, even a scorpion as the kids settle and watch him begin a story. A tale for the evening to distract and encourage, maybe teach a lesson to the ankle biters.

There wasn't much to give in worldly possessions where he grew up, but knowledge, heart, wisdom. That was free, maybe not the kind locked in books behind doors, but the kind one learned by living.

By the end the kids have fallen asleep on each other and his arms are killing him. But for once there was no need to complain. This was love, and in this place, with these people. It could be free too.

Here's this idea...

Reader doesn't have any pride in their life/themselves. Can you smell the angst Leona is going through? Does his lover want him? Are they proud to have him? Is he a phase?

While I believe Leona understands his worth, he rarely lets others see his struggle with accepting his position in life. So when he has something it's difficult for him to let it affect him outwardly. He may be all twisted up internally (overblot hello) but he'll die with his pride before he says anything.

Which makes his partner having issues with pride almost comically painful. They're so humble and I could genuinely see him pausing during a tease or raz NOT SURE what to do with it.

The other characters are just confused all the time.

They do say opposites attract. Who knew Leona was a victim....

⟢ .. Not that he'll fight to drive you around or deliver your food if you ask. It's nice to see your face. Besides, you take good care of him— kissing menial scratches on long-scarred hands, lending a warm body to lean against when the weight becomes too much. He knows he should be able to regulate these feelings by himself; no grown man he knows of just turns to sand the way your sweet Leo does. But then again, what's the point of change if you're a constant?

⟢ He'll make sure you're so happily busy and fulfilled taking special care of him that it won't cross your mind to play the field for a lighter workload. Even if it did occur to your big, smart brain that maybe there's another way.. He has resources.
