Despite my support for iran against the US empire, I never believe in demeaning people like satrapi who have a more complex relationship with iran and was victimized in childhood by religious dogma. But at the end of the day her worldview was "theres fanatics and everybody else" without ever really questioning who the fanatics are, why Europe and America with false civil liberties would be concerned with the civil liberties of the mena region. Its so easy to fall to the liberal to neo to right wing pipeline when u never confront your worldview

And I kind of assumed it was some generic low-effort video essay that I wouldn't enjoy but I had to put something on in the background while I pretended I was about to do work so I put it on and like, holy shit it's actually pretty good. It's not a high production value and he's clearly inexperienced in the realm of making videos but it is anything but "low-effort." It feels like one of those videos you should be watching under the blanket on a cracked ipod touch at 2am on a school night in 2012, except it's 2024.

So then I put another video on about the fucking New York City Mole People thinking it has to be (decent) schlock that I could keep on in the background.

And like, holy shit it's good. Not just a fun little jaunt about the concept of whether or not there are people living in NYC's sewers and subways, but he spends most of the latter half of the video going through a pretty earnest discussion of homelessness in America which I'm not gonna pretend is totally out of left field for a youtube video essayist in principle, but in the neighborhood of conspiracytubers inspired by Wendigoon and Nexpo, I'd argue it's pretty atypical and a welcome change in my opinion.

They do also have eyes, and their vision is actually pretty acute. But their optic and mechanic sensory inputs aren't integrated together like electro-mechanic sense is. So they have these two fairly sophisticated sensory complexes that Barely talk to each other.

No wonder they try to bring the two inputs together in their environment then; picking things up and turning them around allows them to apply both their mechanical and optical senses to the object. They're just trying to make up for a deficiency of neural organisation.

How are they still talking like this

Where in the Tanakh does it say Jews need to kill, rape, steal land from others? Where in Judaism does it say any of that is okay?

It might not be so malicious a motivation. Instead of having a problem with "you thinking you deserve better than how they want to treat you," it could be zero percent about you and 100% about them in their mind (even ifthey can'tconsciously express this). It could be that the problem they have with this situation is the idea that they're doing harm, ESPECIALLY the idea that they're doing harm when they think they aren't.

I've met plenty of people that fall into this alternative category, where they ONLY see how hard they're trying, how stressed they are, how "good" of a person they're striving to be (from their worldview), and then they're told that - no - in fact they are hurting someone. Which can sound like "you are wrong, you are bad, you do bad things, and this has always been true and will always be true" so they get defensive and reactive.

For now, just know I wanted to share this as a preface in case it's ever brought up, because a lot of published Malaysian Leftist writings are in fact in Manglish, and not perfect Malay or English.

Sometimes you will just see 'Comrade' or 'Komrad' used. The latter just being a transliteration. Officially the major Socialist parties here always refers to fellow Communists and Socialists with Sdr. Insert Name on documents, published writings and verbally when giving talks, and sometimes even when referring to non-Malaysian Communists such as Sdr. Raul Castro, but in practice Comrade/Komrad is used just as often when speaking and even party members may use these in their writings if it's not anything super official. When translating to English, the official position by said parties are still to retain the Saudara/Sdr. convention but other organizations (like the one I'm a part of) will prefer the usage of 'Comrade'. I will personally retain the usage of Saudara/Sdr. even after translating out of pride in the Socialist identity formed within the Malay Archipelagos, I hope readers don't mind :)

Not loving yourself means you don't care if you're suffering. You won't agree with the rational statement "I deserve to suffer", but you WILL be more willing to do things at the cost of your well-being—irregular sleep schedules, long hours of solitary study, missing out on life, etc.
