Let it snow☃️

Took a study break today. Instead I woke up early again (still not recommendable) and picked up my friend. We drove up the hill I visited before Christmas and had a great time sleighing! It really was a winter wonderland. However, a kid drove into me with their sleight so now my right leg is bruised as well :/ it’ll heal…Came home totally exhausted but very happy. I took a quick shower and now I will continue reading until I can go to sleep📚

ChatGPT uses so much energy that the US is literally reversing course on coal and gas usage to make up for it. In Santa Clara, for example, data centers used 60% of the ENTIRE CITY'S electricity.

ChatGPT uses 1-3 bottles of water for cooling for every query you put into it. This is FRESH WATER, which is evaporated and eventually mostly returns to the ocean, effectively removing a lot of it from our already dwindling fresh water supply on the planet. It also consumes 17 THOUSAND TIMES more electricity than the average American home.

The AI boom wastes so much electricity that we are very immediately risking US cities having to have rolling blackouts just to keep up with the energy demands, as early as NEXT YEAR

Gen AI's water usage is projected to hit 6.6 BILLION meters cubed by 2027

More AI use = more data centers = power drain on local cities = gas, electricity, and water utility prices rise because all of our resources are being funneled into a machine that makes garbage

the whole tiktok situation is EXACTLY why media literacy and education on propaganda is so important. the notifications about tiktok going down and then coming back use VERY propagandistic language, and with a literal fascist coming into power in the us tomorrow we need to be even more critical of the information we’re consuming and stay on the lookout for political stunts like this

TikTok is literally spewing propaganda today thanking Trump and people act like they are the good guys. Insane. Ya'll drank the propaganda koolaid for real. TikTok vanishing off the face of the earth would be such a win for society and a blow for radicalization, hate and misinformation...which is why I'm sure Trump will try to save it. I hope he fails. This makes it seem pretty clear that TikTok is in league with Trump and his dictator buddies just like Musk and Twitter are. And yet so many gullible people are acting like this is a big win.

For just a few moments, while TikTok was down, the world breathed a little freer from the endless torrent of toxicity and lies and propaganda that are deluging our societies due to the evils of unregulated social media that actively colludes with fascists and dictators.

I hope some day it is gone for good.

I deleted the app from my phone last night when I saw how often I kept trying to open it. When I saw how addicted I had become to it. And actually had a good night's sleep. Waking to news that "it's coming back online", "Trump might just save it", etc. only made me angry.

The fact that so many can just keep falling into the traps laid out by fascists in this way. Just for a hit from a drug they've become addicted to. I hope one day it's gone for good. That it doesn't get bought by an American billionaire who will turn it into a propaganda machine. But that's hoping for a future that seems difficult to attain.
