The Difference Between BBQ Sauce, and That Stuff You Find at the Grocery Store
Craft BBQ Sauce Brewing
People want custom made… an experience tailored to match their tastes, with special attention given just for them. That is what craft BBQ Sauce brewing is. It is where all the sauce is brewed with the same meticulous craftsmanship in order to create an extraordinary customer experience that fits in with their tastes.
We are starting a new trend-- A new way to make sauce, new ways to enjoy the sauce. We are taking examples from the beer brewing industry and implementing them into the sauce-
brewing industry to offer more options to consumers besides the age old commercial sauce that seems to constantly have a hint of “always tasting the same” spice combinations. We want to have seasonal sauces that we make with fresh seasonal ingredients, seasonal sauces that taste better with seasonal meals like your traditional thanksgiving turkey dinner! The possibilities are endless and I want to continually produce sauce that offers a change to the industry norm.

Where Does BBQ Sauce Come From? (We don’t know either)
If you have never asked the question, “Where is this bbq sauce made?” that’s ok because I hadn’t either until about a year ago. As it turns out, that’s a really tough question to answer.  I spent some time researching company websites, emailing company HQ’s, and got some pretty limiting, yet not surprising results. I mostly looked into the main BBQ sauces because to be honest there are millions out there that are so obscure and only have such small circles of influence, that it would be near impossible to find them all.  (And because of startup costs, you can bet those smaller brands are using a co-packer to make their sauces and other products)
First off you should know, Kraft foods owns several bbq sauce brands. Pit Boss, Bullseye, and Kraft BBQ Sauce. I couldn’t get a hold of them but it’s all probably made in the same Kraft facility just with a change of a few ingredients and a new label. Quality isn’t as important as quantity produced at the lowest price, Im willing to bet High Fructose Corn Syrup is in the ingredients list?Â
I did hear back from a popular company called K.C. Masterpiece. It was interesting to hear the response from their rep, it was short and to the point: We don’t know where it comes from… That’s not really what she said in the email but that’s pretty close. Actual quote from the K.C. Masterpiece rep: “Our products are made in factories throughout the United States. I apologize that we are unable to provide locations.”
Beloved Stubbs BBQ sauce is co-packed by several different facilities and Bone Sucking BBQ Sauce uses FOUR different co-packers.
Now co-packing is fine and all if you are concerned with the bottom line and making money -- and as the consumer if you don’t care about anything like that.Â
 Think about this though,
In the case of Bone Sucking Sauce, they have added four huge variables in the production of the CORE of their business. If you are a BBQ Sauce Company shouldn’t you be the one making the BBQ sauce? I think in reality most of these businesses claiming to be BBQ Sauce Companies are in fact just BBQ Sauce Marketing Firms. You still might be getting a decent sauce but the integrity of the product (at least to me) is lost.

The FDA has announced a proposal for a new nutritional facts label that will highlight important info and omit outdated/needless information. Im really excited that more and more people are caring what they put into their bodies and the percentage of those that actually check the labels nowadays is increasing. The calorie per serving will be highlighted, calories from fat will be omitted. Differences between added sugar and natural sugar will be labeled, serving sizes will be presented more realistically and adjustments will be made to some of the percent daily values. The proposal is going through a public comment period for 90 days that started on march 3, 2014 but there is no timeline for when this could go into effect. Forks over Knives (thoughts from a bbq sauce brewing co)
So... I watched forks over knives a couple of nights ago and now I am on a "whole foods plant based diet..." Kind of.  The material in the movie was great.  People, on the brink of death, miraculously came back to life by eating a plant based diet and I think that is amazing yet not real surprising. The thing that stood out the most to me during watching this film was the fact that they only used the most extreme of all cases to do studies (or at least publicly broadcast the results of said cases) and I respect that because the truth is we need to be scared into eating better.  I think we can all be sure that casein protein is bad in large amounts as well as animal protein, especially when these two things are consumed almost exclusively by a lot of people.  I think its well known that you must "consume everything in moderation", and "too much of a good thing (in this case animal protein) is bad for your health." Basically, IMHO,  a well rounded whole foods diet should keep you out of trouble, and I wouldn't plant base it or animal base it exclusively because I believe we need both for optimum nutrition.  This of course is just my opinion and what I took away from the film.  I have a lot of respect for the researchers and its great to see that when people get back to natural eating habits their health increases ten-fold... so let me leave you with this Miller & Son BBQ Brewing Co.'s BBQ sauce is a great addition to any plant based diet or animal based diet and we respect everyone's preferences. Â
P.S. If you have eaten poorly throughout your whole life and exhibit some of the medical conditions as those portrayed in the film, you should absolutely eat a strict whole foods, plant based diet (In my opinion) and if you haven't seen the movie, I encourage you to watch it. Here is the website http://www.forksoverknives.com Â
P.P.S Be sure to check out Miller & Son BBQ Brewing Co. on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and all of that stuff. Thanks
