the last time "man" was gender-neutral was because we said "werman and woman" with "man" being synonymous with "hand/person." If you ask someone who says "man is gender-neutral" to make a list of genders, I guarantee you they are never going to say "werman and woman" they are going to say "man and woman"
For context, "girl" was used gender-neutrally for centuries longer than man, with records from 1475, the year Isabella and Ferdinand began jointly ruling Spain, who would later finance Columbus.
But when you use feminine language "neutrally" you get a very different reaction than the use of masculine language like man/guys/bro/dude/et al. I wonder why that is
I don't know who needs to hear this but... start living. The days are flying by and all you do is work, pay bills, and stress. Enjoy what you can like walks, sunsets, music, laughter. Joy doesn't have to be expensive. You deserve it.
during my dissertation proposal hearing one of my advisors said "I think you might have been too harsh in your criticism of this theory" and I genuinely, innocently asked "what makes you say that?" and he said "well on page 27 you used the phrase 'should be consigned wholesale to the dustbin of history'" and I was like oh. yeah I guess I did that. fair

How to have a conversation about a topic you’re not interested in or don’t know anything about:
Listen to what the other person has to say about the topic.
Ask a question about what they said. Asking them to clarify or explain something you don’t understand is great, but any question will do. All else fails, ask them to explain what they like about some part of the topic.
Listen to their responses and go back to step 2.
Do this until 5-15 minutes has passed, then change the subject to a topic of your interest, unless you are actually interested in learning more on this subject, in which case, go on for as long as you like.
Sometimes, they will say something like “I’m sorry to blather on about [topic].” This is an attempt at a conversational dismount. You can either say “no, it was fascinating, thanks” and then bring up your own topic, or you can say “no, it’s fascinating, please keep going” if you want to keep hearing about their topic. Note the tense difference (past -> moving on, present -> keep going).
I just thought I’d write a script for this, because someone who can’t / won’t do this came up in a Captain Awkward column, and listening about topics you have no interest in is a really useful skill to have and not often explicitly taught, particularly to boys and men.

Trying to find alternatives for google docs and transition into a new website or app. That won’t give me a virus and then a bunch of preventable things happen and I am overloaded with even more bullshit AI alternatives or people lying to my face saying “this app does not use AI!” As I see AI images being used right before my eyes. Hey crazy thought here corporate companies I know But..what if you stopped shoving AI down people throats and implanting AI systems in art, writing, systems meant to support people, calls, security, and photos?! I am two seconds away from bashing my head into the wall to think of a simpler time of 4 YEARS AGO. When I was able to search and use apps and websites without being bombarded with AI.
i think it’s called ellipsus? (i’m so used to spelling it “ellipsis” that i think they misspelled it on purpose 😅) but they’re staunchly anti-ai and made specifically for writers.
going offline (highly recommended as sites can get hacked and ai happily hogs bandwidth and officially makes up the majority of internet traffic now, i.e., nearly every website and app in existence lags and/or crashes): libreoffice is basically like ms word but without the obnoxious copilot nonsense, so a thousand times better.
another thing i highly recommend? make what you will out of this, but writing longhand. notebook paper is very cheap, anywhere from 90¢ to a buck-twenty-nine, pens and pencils will not let you down, and despite being time-consuming, writing longhand will activate regions of your brain that involve learning and memory in a huge middle finger to the ai monster. and depending on your upbringing, it can very nostalgic: it is for me.
