Honestly one of the saddest parts about this whole AI thing is watching some of the smartest and most talented people I know turn into shells of themselves from using AI.
One of the most resourceful and intelligent people I knew has become near addicted to ChatGPT and relies on it for nearly everything.
The person who taught me photography and gifted me my first camera is now using AI to generate images.
One of the most resilient people I know, who packed up as a teenager and immigrated to another country with zero support and got their degree barely knowing any English is now using AI chatbots to make decisions for them.
These people who I looked up to my entire life are basically nothing more than shells of themselves, and itâs all because of AI.
can confirm this, too.
after getting sober 12 years ago, my father grew very vocal and opinionated and more âhimselfâ (though it was a double-edged sword, and i wonât get into that), and then the ai came and he can barely say more than two sentences from his own mind on his facebook posts now.
my brother, a chemical engineer, honestly canât tell you if something is ai or notâplus, iâm under the impression that his job utilizes a crap-ton of ai, like every job in existence right now.
before i bailed from there again last month, i started seeing a fair number of baking and science accounts on instagram absolutely praising ai for âstreamliningâ everything, and i started seeing actual art accounts praising it and utilizing it as well.
iâve often felt like i was surrounded by idiots (the plight of being a smart person), and by emotionless people, but i never thought it would hit this level, though.
Nowadays the biggest relief is scrolling to a music artistâs page and seeing that they have music from pre 2023
listen to me. we are investing money in ai, but the underlying currency is cognitive ability. in 10-20 years, weâll have realised and pay more money for ai in order to buy our brains back.
sound mysterious? or familiar? it's happening with smartphones rn. i'm gen z and never knew the world without internet or (smart)phones. now that our prefrontal cortices are almost done developing, it seems more and more young people are fed up with the internet. apart from brain-fried junior tech bros (sorry, i'm biased), "generation iphone" pines for offline holidays and analogue journaling. instagram is full of content decrying instagram. & the reason we can't quit is that phones were sold to us as the easiest solution for everything. have your wallet on your phone! have your mail on your phone! your train tickets! your banking! your id! your friends! your hobbies! your job! your controls for your window blinds! how easy! smart! modern!
now that our entire lives are on our phone, DiGiTaL NaTiVeS are fcking sick of phones. and it's impossible to quit because modern life is basically impossible without a smartphone. additionally, the market has swooped in and monetised our attention span beyond the original intentions. cue the explosion of short-form content designed to keep us scrolling eternally. our attention is the currency, and now that that's been utterly fried perfected, the market is moving on: to selling us our attention span back. app blockers, flip phones, digital detox retreats. first we paid to be distracted, which was sold to us as innovation, and now we're paying to get a shred of our abilities back. also sold as ...innovation, somehow. either way, we're paying.
in 10-20 years, everything will be ai-ified. and weâll feel the repercussions. ai-generated websites everywhere and ai summaries and every app with an unavoidable ai "helper". we wonât be able to synthesise information anymore because weâre not required to sit our butt down and tease out details ourselves. weâll be so used to being served âthis articleâs mains points summarised for youâ that weâll complain it's "tOo hArD". and then, the market will move on. i swear with my hand on a holy bible (and i am catholic) there will be some pay-per-device ai designed to filter/block other ai. purchase a license, and it'll block all the in-app ai, the summaries, the ai websites. you will pay money to think again, after you paid money to never think again. it will happen according to the patterns we see now when trying to detach our life from smartphones. and as it was with smartphones, the only people insisting the ai infiltration of daily life is both inevitable and needed are the people trying to sell it to you.
get smart now, fellows. i'm begging you. do not upload your lecture notes to chatgpt, or any ai app your favourite study influencer with a cute desk setup is trying to sell you a discount code for because it can give you great summaries to study with! :) how quick! how easy! how modern! do not fall into the same trap again. do not sell the essence of your brain for relief of the minor inconveniences of life. there will always be minor inconveniences. more will be found according to whatever could make money. but it will be hard to get back the parts of yourself you sold. like with any trap, you'll get the honey and the hit to your neck.
besides, minor inconveniences actually build neurons. doing stuff analog builds neurons: yesterday, i spent the day handwriting an entire chapter of a fanfic. i usually do it in spurts because i have several wips and iâm also an artist and a polymath, so i made a mental note to sit down and write a whole chapter by hand. and let me tell you: it was wonderful. it reminded me of when i was a kid and iâd write stories longhand, and i could feel my brain strengthening, too.
iâve never been one to doomscroll or hang around on websites for very long, but whenever i read from a physical book, or do something by hand, it feels like a detox. i still have a physical wallet (mainly because itâs a good durable wallet, iâve had it nearly 15 years and it doesnât have any wear on it), and i wonât explain it, mainly because i donât really want to, i want to leave people guessing, but⊠somehow, by some dark magic, i have actually sincerely managed to get away with not having a smartphone this whole time. i had a âdumb phoneâ for a while until it died, and the place i used to live in still had a landline, and the phone i have now is my momâs phone and she and i barely use it (and when we do, itâs for its original purpose: to make phone calls).
i was born in the 90s so i remember life before the internet took off. i remember when the iphone was released and when more and more entities were adamantly insisting for us to go digital. i also remember hearing that electronics are vulnerable to electromagnetic interference, i.e., direct bursts from the sun. i was doing some research last night about gamma ray bursts from stars just to make sure the thought iâve had in the back of my mind since i was about 14 wasnât incorrect, and itâs not unheard of with the sun, even though they happen more with larger stars: our sun still shoots out plumes and waves of radiation, especially if the vast amounts of aurorae weâve been experiencing are anything to go by. i donât have any idea whatâs happening with the sun right now as it seems like every single day weâre seeing aurorae happening and in the most unusual places like colorado (tbh, i donât think anyone does: if thereâs one thing being a science nerd has done for me, itâs that itâs kept me from putting on a tinfoil hat, iâm too much of a skeptic đ ) but this alone should be enough to convince you to not rely on electronics. it definitely has me, my own background notwithstanding.
iâm fully of the belief that ai is going to reach the point you said, op, where weâre going to be paying for an ai something to help us block the aiâand imo, i see it happening in less time. iâll give it a year, actually, maybe, given how quickly itâs all advancing. and iâm sure our sun will have something to say about that, too. so, i second this: get smart now while you still can. strengthen those neurons and those synapses.
Basically, if you ever follow space exploration, ocean exploration, genetics, AI research, or any such topics, the thing you will find everywhere is people thinking it's something humans shouldn't do because of some vague defined sacredness, or they're putting their hands over their ears and going nananana it's not real.
Really, really strange.
i see this a lot in the biology and chemistry fields, too, especially of the âappliedâ types like neuroscience, molecular biology, and biochemistry. thereâs this pervasive belief that you shouldnât be looking at the behavior of neurons or that itâs some kind of witchcraft happening or (my favorite) thereâs no such thing as things like molecules.
in fact, you want to know how baked in this is? i have this really distinct memory of taking biology class in 7th grade and right before we were to start the unit on evolution, our teacher actually had us take home a permission slip saying that itâs okay to study this, and again when we started doing dissections. my mom happily signed both (and the latter i understand completely), but itâs always made me trip balls just thinking about how there are actually people out there who donât believe in darwinâs findings, or that we shouldnât be studying any of them. i also remember being a little kid into paleontology, reading about and being fascinated with creatures that are millions of years old, and my bible-thumper grandmother wondering why i so âblindly accepted the idea of people finding fossils somewhere when for all (i) knew, they couldâve been planted thereâ.
(frankly, my issue with ai research is itâs basically frankensteinâs monster at this point, how itâs being abused to the worst extent possible and to the detriment of everything. and the culture surrounding it (shoving it down our throats at every whim when no one consented to it, using it to scrape websites for content) is akin to rape culture.)
dogmatic fundamentalism is the dearth of humanity.

happy birthday chuck đ„łđđ„âïž
our only hope to breathe again, is to stop the man from closing in,
what will we do when all is lost? environmental holocaust.
âai is here to stay, thereâs nothing you can doâ
*cracks open a can of pepsi* want a bet?
also, i donât know if youâre aware of this, but the big nuclear reactor in the sky has a tendency to um. belch out bursts of gamma rays and an assortment of radioactive particles every so often, and the last time earth took a direct hit from a big one, it knocked out all the telegraphs.
then again, iâm not sure youâre aware of any of this given ai has completely eaten your brain.
âagentic aiâ
does anyone else get royally unnerved by this? my mom and i were watching tv last night and every commercial break, we saw ads for agentic ai and it didnât help that the words âblack boxâ were uttered at one point. it felt like watching the speech of some supervillain from a superhero movie except this is a real thing and not a scripted piece of fiction.
âai can do so much for us!â
after what happened to cara, iâm just going to call anyone whoâs pro-ai and anyone uses it in any way, a rape apologist because this horse shit is being forced onto us en masse without our consent Ă la the core of rape culture.

âai is revolutionary! itâs the future!â
you have cunty companies like meta spitting out pro-ai ads with david bowieâs âfive yearsâ, a song about the world ending, playing in the background, and it shouldnât have to take a genius to tell you that theyâre planning something nefarious with that.
you have people literally addicted to this nonsense like itâs cocaine.
you have people literally being pushed to suicide by this.
it wastes mind-boggling amounts of energy and water (and places like WALES are in drought as well as on fire at the moment), its data centers are absolutely wrecking the earth and the atmosphere, it hallucinates constantly (and in places itâs got no business hallucinating in like hospitals or banks), it makes these truly atrocious ads for tv youtube and radio that are either so far in the uncanny valley that the video for black hole sun looks normal by comparison or looked as though it came from ads on old websites that wouldâve drained your batteries back in 2015, itâs been shown to have gone rogue multiple times (and whoâs to say it wonât go skynet or HAL 9000 on us at any point), it can apparently create pathogens now (and literally no one sees anything wrong with that), itâs made school completely lethal as well as pointless, itâs all about âstreamliningâ (read: rushing) everything to the point that people are walking around with this dead look in their eyes and have zero concept of time anymore, itâs completely ruined my career as well as the careers of god knows how many artists and authors, its extreme proliferation on social media has made those sites virtually unusable and the data centers running those sites are releasing recycled potable water at superheated temperatures making them prime breeding grounds for horrible diseases, i.e., iâm blaming it for taking me away from my friends, my family, my fans, and the man i love.
i have surpassed the joker and i feel myself turning into the punisher.
to ai and the world bowing down to it, i may as well be dead. but i could kill you instead.
reposted from fetlife:
So, I donât know if anyoneâs been following with this, and I couldnât find anything on here aside from a bunch of Spanish posts (as âcaraâ is a Spanish also Portuguese and Italian word), but Cara, an app that was born in response to the mass mining and scraping of the internet via AI databases and their cronies and seemed to be bulletproof against it, was scraped. Every nook, every cranny, every sketch, every shitpost, and every finished piece, taken away just like that.
I had an account on there, but the only time I really used it was for mermay 2023, and the last time I really checked in was some time in 2024.
Still. I had previously been a victim of art theft and plagiarism in the past, so I feel this in my bones. and the thing that makes this especially horrid is the victim blaming thatâs been happening in the wake of this. All of the âyou shouldnât have posted if you donât want it scraped upâ that is beat for beat akin to âyou shouldnât have dressed like that if you didnât want to be raped/sexually assaultedâ that has plagued society for decades. Listen, if youâre a working artist, you know how vital the internet has been when it comes to meeting people and building an audience, especially if said audience is willing to commission you and potentially help you: I have had the worst experience in getting commissioned and even eyes on my art over the years, but I have always kept trying at it, though.
Someone on tumblr described it as âart rapeâ, which, I admittedly have always more or less described it as such (taking without proper consent was the kicker) but now with this in mind plus forcing AI onto us against our will, itâs all basically a mass manifestation of rape culture with the passage of time, but now it seems itâs clear as day.
I mean, what are we artists supposed to do now? Itâs bad enough that everyone is gravitating towards the AI generated pieces of shit away from the real thing as of late, and to the point of completely sinking someone like me, someone whoâs been drawing the way she has for nearly 20 years, since she was a kid, but hasnât been able to get very far because âif it isnât realistic, itâs garbageâ is so baked into the collective consciousness that it almost feels redundant saying it aloud. When you go to the Reddit thread describing this incident, youâll see âfair useâ getting thrown around⊠yeah, donât piss on my leg and tell me itâs raining. there ainât nothing fair about blatantly stealing millions of pieces of art for your own benefit.
tumblr has the option to opt out of being scraped, but whoâs to say that that wonât change in the future? Iâm starting to wonder if posting art and writing is even worth it here now, because literally nothing is safe or off-limits.
I have felt this way since 2022 when news of the scrapings came into my radar: artists are the canary in the coal mine. If something is going horribly wrong with us, there will be a ripple effect and depending on what it is, itâll be devastating. AI scrapes an artistâs work for data and later usage in order to train models, and does so at unthinkable speeds. The models then vomit up pieces by way of prompt at unthinkable speeds and depending on how many times a prompt, or multiple prompts, is/are typed in, you continue to train the robot so you get this feedback loop going. As a result, the entire place is absolutely inundated with AI slop labeled âartâ (I havenât done any kind of âhow to train your AIâ, by the way, this is all just from observation and being a firsthand victim of this).
If they can bust through the barrier of a site whose raison dâĂȘtre was to be a haven from that, whoâs to say any place on the internet will be safe?
ai defenders stop sounding like rapists challenge
you know, come to think of it: we can liken the âforcing ai onto us against our willâ as a mass manifestation of rape culture, from the act itself to the âwell, if you didnât want that to happen, you probably shouldnât have postedâ that is beat for beat âwell, if you didnât want that to happen, you probably should have dressed differentlyâ, and itâs not just with us artists, either, even though weâve been the proverbial canaries in the coal mine from the very beginning.
cara was scrapped by ai. i'm so sorry for cara's creator. this is so fucked up...
ps: if you're sensitive to the topic, i suggest not reading all the screenshots or at least prepare yourself mentally. their "justification" for lack of consent is disturbing.
cara's been scraped.
Deleted my cara account and honestly I'm thinking about deleting all my art from the whole internet even on my main accounts...
yeah, me, too. this is just⊠i have no words for this.
i havenât been there in about two years but iâm thinking of pulling the plug on it, too. iâve been slowly removing myself from the internet but i think this is my sign to just kill it completely, what the actual fuck.

On that post I reblogged about the CARA site getting hit by those shitty and malicious AI Scrapper fuckers: Someone else in the reblogs commented about how these AI bros doing this is literal rape and fucking honestly, yeah that IS what it fucking feels like. Artists posting art, these shitty assholes come in and steal EVERY ARTISTS' WORK without their permission and have the nerve to say that 'they deserve it' is what rapists would say, and these AI fuckers are literally THAT. Art Rapists. Fucking going to be calling them and art resposters THAT from now on.
hold up, how did cara get hit with ai? i thought their whole raison dâĂȘtre was to be against that.
(p.s., oh, iâve been calling them that from day one: itâs absolutely akin to rape).
(nirv)hannah + [alex] in chains, you rat bastards
