it is very fun that ahab is so obsessed with having symbols Mean Something and yet he ignores what other people see as obvious omens that moby dick is going to fucking kill them all and god wants them to go home
Ahab: This must Mean Something
Starbuck: This means we are all going to die
Stubb: Maybe this means something, maybe it doesn't, whatever
Flask: This doesn't mean anything
I don’t think everyone should read Moby-Dick, but I do think it should be adapted into every possible medium.
I want to see Moby-Dick: The Musical. I want the Midnight, Forecastle chapter performed on stage in drag. I want an Ishmael dating sim. I want Moby-Dick as a D&D campaign. The Whiteness of the Whale as an abstract painting. The Whale’s Skeleton as a children’s play structure. Anything, everything, big as you can make it
the moby dick musical is fascinating to me like imagine hamilton is all the rage and you decide to write an avant garde musical about how america is and has always been racist but you are some white guy who only kind of understands all that and you think that the best way to do that is for sure an adaptation of moby dick. the book about the whale. and there is a scene where the diverse and inclusive crew is singing about touching whale sperm 💯

Me: *Reads HG Parry’s Declaration on the Rights of Magicians and then proceeds to fall totally and completely in love with her writing.*
Also me: *Fully aware she wrote other books but just never picked them up for the next four/five years.*
Me: *Bawling on a train having finished The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep*
Ok fine. Top ten funniest momence in Murdle: Volume 1:
(Contains spoilers so watch out if you're not done)
"I'm the world's greatest detective, Deductive Logico, and this is my partner, Inspector Irratino, he's also a detective. Just not the world's greatest"
Obsidian leaving Logico a "hey loser I faked my death and I'm coming back in chapter 4" note which Logico proceeds to Not Read and then react with Shock and Awe when she turns out to be alive
The part where they go to a hotel in the middle of nowhere and there's a whole convoluted love-and-vengeance driven tragic murder-romance playing out and they solve it and then leave and it turns out the hotel Closed Thirty Years Ago! and this is evidence of GHOSTS so they go back and the hotel is GONE and replaced with an EMPTY LOT and Logico's like "idk. Might have been swamp gas"
Irratino like "I can find a murder using astrology :) " and then he uses astrology to pick a spot and Logico calls him a moron who uses fake methodology and they drive all the way out there and there's actually a murder there
One of the reoccurring suspects is Dracula. Just like, casually
A penguin gets murdered and Irratino's so distraught by that he calls out to God and God actually responds. Nobody else can talk to God btw
Irratino sending a text that says "idk lol" thanks man👍
Logico failing to solve a major plot point for like 23 straight cases cause he was holding the clue upside down
Irratino coming up with something that was already IN the clues like ok THANKS my guy I owe you one. HUGE help could not have solved that without Occult Intervention
House Arrest Divorce Arc that turns into the House Arrest Flirting Arc
Runners-up:
One of the Actually Serious Plot-Relevant puzzles has two kids in a trenchcoat as a suspect
Irratino's Evil Henchmen who are supposed to, in theory, be private investigators or something. Despite this they murder people all the time off the clock. None of them get fired for this
hi murdle community first post here kinda nervous
may i interest you in the oxymoron miis. miixymoron. oxymiiron. whatever you'd like to call them.
i dont believe either of them have. canon appearances besides the hair + eye color so I took my own creative liberties with them ehe
I've gotta post my guys, Exhibit A is Logico, Exhibit B is Irratino, Exhibit C is my queen Obsidian, Exhibit D is Logico and Tino's son Chris, and Exhibit E is Dame obsidian's son Hikaru
Something of note:
Hey have you noticed that Logico doesn’t get described ever
the guy is never really described in the books except for a select few times when his info card is shown. He’s not in the suspect art museum. We don’t even get a throw-away line about it from Irratino!
But it does mean that with every fic, the readers may all be envisioning an entirely different person. I myself write Logico with no set design in mind at all lol, maybe I should come up with one
Everyone has their own unique descriptors and fanart for him, iirc there are a few bits of fanon. It’s fun ^_^

The thing is that I get how someone could get frustrated or bored with all the side tangents in Moby Dick but I think the book being written in first person just makes it rather endearing to me. This isn't just Herman Melville trying to stuff in as many whale facts as could possibly be relevant into the book, no. This is Ishmael taking us aside and going "hey, here's some context that might prove useful to have :]" and "I love whales and I hope you can understand why" and I just go omg thank you Ishmael, my good friend Ishmael wants me to know these whale facts.. wow :]
The problem with Murdle is that it's impossible to recommend to literally anyone on the face of the earth due to What It Is but the other problem with it is that it's funny as hell
hi murdlers this is all i have to offer at the molement
I know they’re not like this, but I couldn’t help drawing them😳
Just a snowy renga for your mental health.

ishmael: ok so I ended up sharing a bed with queequeg after all
fujo landlord: how was it
ISHMAELLLL uaaaaaghhhh. thing i didn’t pick up from my first read is literally just How passively suicidal Ishmael is, and how he sees death in so many things. also special shoutout to when he and Queequeg are headed to the Try Pots and he’s on this little rumination paragraph about how the sign resembles gallows and he resolves that they’re for he and Queequeg both. i don’t think your husband would like that too much dude. he agreed to die with you Should It Come Down To It. not on your terms. tis until death only naturally do you part. no gallows for Ishmael
also double shoutout to the chowder chapter that comes right after. mrs hussey is literally just so funny i love her so bad. also ishmael asking queequeg to confirm whether or not he (ishmael) got high off the?? the chowder??? fascinating guy
