witch hat atelier racketboard AU,,, my ramblings under cut!
Anyways, so way before Racket (Ruckus) becomes a brimmed cap, he and Skate (who is Skate. I STILL canāt find a human name for him I like) weāre apprentices in the same atelier, with an age difference of about two years methinks. Theyāre in their early teens here I would think, Racket would be like 14 at the most? So Skateboard is 16.
anyways Iām pretty sure the setting for WHA is based around medieval Europe (like a lot of fantasy?? And the accents) so I donāt know exactly how lgbtq+ friendly the setting is. :l. Either way they become friends because trans ppl flock to each other like starlings or some shit, especially when theyāre younger.
either way they become very close friends (Ruckus gets a crush like Racket tends to always do) while theyāre doing apprentice things. Skate would likely āgraduateā from being an apprentice first, leaving Ruckus by himself. (I have not finished the anime yet. For some reason it makes me nervous. Working on it) they write letters often I think, but other than that Ruckus is pretty much alone, hence the dive nose first into forbidden magic.
Tbh it started because Ruckus starts crashing out internally about being misgendered and deadnamed, so he starts looking into body modification spells any way he can. Right before his own āgraduationā he seemingly completely disappears off the face of the planet.
everyone just keeps trucking along, though, leading to Skate being bewildered and worried why his pen pal/friend/situationship(?) hasnāt been writing to him. He ends up going to his old atelier to look into it, finding absolutely nothing and no sympathy. And the world keeps moving, so he has to move with it.
On Ruckusā end, now that he has complete freedom (mostly), he starts the whole transition thing immediately, and then works as a traveling doctor for that after he gets a hang of it. (Canāt stay in one place too long as a brimmed cap) Under his robes heās got his tattoos that made the transformation/transition. He goes a little ham with it, also giving himself bobcat features and horns because I say so. Yippee. He becomes pretty good at this, and the people he helps are very grateful ^^ illegal transition ftw bc heās also pretty cheap and cares about peopleās safety.
so the years pass (Ruckus is 21, Skate is 23), and they happen to end up in the same town. Ruckus (covered head to toe during daylight hours due to fur and horns) catches sight of the other walking past him and is struck immediately by the notion that āphuck, heās still gorgeousā, and āphuck, I havenāt gotten over him AT ALL over these yearsā. No good.
so Ruckus hopes and prays that Skate didnāt even catch sight of him, let alone recognize him, but Skate, plagued by his disappearance, fixates on the stranger who looks uncannily like Ruckus almost immediately. He ends up catching Ruckus under the light of the night sky, the other taking off all the heavy disguising clothes. Cue the ensuing terrible reunion.
at some point Ruckus basically tells Skate to phuck off and that it was better that they werenāt in each otherās lives (due to the forbidden magic, even though heās still sick in love) which leads to one confrontation after another, until the tension breaks after a mishap and they kiss kiss fall in love all over again.
then Ruckus helps Skate transition in secret because I say so.
