I love the Night Island as you dubbed it; it's a perfect place.

We can watch films in one of the cinemas on the island, or performances; we go on long walks on the beach at night, and for leisurely swims... the tropical climate makes for warm nights most of the year, and air conditioning takes care of the hot days which we spend in bed cuddling or in a shaded room watching TV or you working on your book and me reading. The villa has a swimming pool which you occasionally jump into on a hot day, but I prefer to stay inside when it's sunny out. Though I love a wet Daniel coming in and cuddling me.

Your birthday this year is a tricky one - 27, the age that I was turned. I know you really want me to turn you this year, I know you're hoping it and I desperately try to avoid conversations on the subject. I didn't ask what you want for your birthday because how will you be able to not say what you want most of all... and which you are convinced is in my power to give you.

I saw a post (not on tumblr) about an interviewer pronouncing Assad’s name wrong when it wasn’t wrong, and I thought I should say this in case someone else was worried about the pronunciation:

Assad has talked about this and he mentioned that he doesn’t care too much about how it’s pronounced. iirc he mentioned it’s because there are two ways that people typically pronounce his name, and they’re both correct.

The “As-saad” pronunciation is the most common, and it’s also the original Arabic pronunciation.

However, there’s also the “Ahs-sud” pronunciation which is the one Assad’s mentioned his family/friends use. This one is more common with Desis and not as commonly used overall. (Also, not all Desis use this pronunciation)

This phenomenon isn’t uncommon, you’ll find similar differences with names like Hassan (“Has-aan” vs. “Huh-sun”) (This was the example Assad used as well), Malik (“Maa-lik” vs. “Mal-ik”), or, not the same case but a similar one with the name Rashid (“Raa-shed” vs. “Ra-sheed”) (the latter two examples being alternately used in IWTV as well).

One point - the closest to the Arabic is the AS-sud pronunciation that his family and friends use. The Arabic is أَسَد : 'asad with the stress on the first syllable, meaning lion. It's not a Desi thing. Similar with Hasan: the Arabic pronunciation is HA-sun. MAA-lik and MA-lik are two different names in Arabic مالِك and مَلِك, same with RAA-shid and ra-SHEED - راشِد and رَشيد.

Right so I got the dress (needed to wait for my Canada friend to get it to me) and I can say three things: - Assad did not fit in this - A pregnant woman did not fit in this - I do not fit in this. I mean I *do* technically, but either my bra or my knickers are showing. This is not an XL dress. I am 6' and I don't see myself wearing it in any sort of public place. I'm happy to sell it on to someone who loves the show! I paid £50 so for that and shipping costs (won't be too much as it's very light as it doesn't involve a lot of fabric) it can be yours - just send me a PM.
