So when I filled out @dragon-age-tournament's census survey, it was like 4:00 a.m. and I hadn't slept yet. So unhinged 4:00 a.m. me was given free reign to talk about characters I like. I then forgot most of what I had written. So I was rather surprised when the Veilguard responses were posted earlier and one of the written responses was familiar.
Unhinged 4:00 a.m. me wasn't wrong but I'm shocked I shared it. At least it was the most normal of the things I vaguely remember writing.

During my first Veilguard playthrough, I hadn't read Tevinter Nights yet, and I completely misunderstood Neve's relationship with Aelia. Like I fully thought she and Neve were ex's. I also thought Neve and Rana were ex's.

I think Raine Hawke accidentally adopts an orphan during or immediately after Inquisition. Imagining her having to figure out how to tell Isabela is really funny to me.

Visiting r/dragonage makes me feel like I’m the only one that loved Veilguard.
Playing DA2 for the first time while romancing Anders and being gullible feels like this in hindsight.

How good are the Crows at background checks?
Considering they are living in a pre-modern world, without all that bureaucracy and tons of paperwork?
They might do them but they won't be able to find much, except possibly chantry records registering the birth and the baptism of a child, and the marriage records for their parents. Maaaybe some accounting stuff if the family is rich or runs a business like fancy shop or artisan workshop.
Okay, so it's unlikely that Lucanis would have found out from the Crows that Gwyneira was the hero of Fereldan's half sister. Meaning at some point during Veilguard that would need to be revealed.
Gwyneira finds out when she meets Neria, sometime between recruiting Taash and the Fire and Ice quest.
How should Lucanis find out? Through drama, angst, or awkwardness?
Nope, not unless somebody went to a considerable effort to track down anything and everything concerning Neria. Which could in theory be done but would take months or years of work.
I'm talking stuff like: breaking into the Circle or bribing the Templars to get Neria's records and check where she was kidnapped from; going to that place to check the Chantry records of births to find who her parents were (optional: listening to the gossip of the locals); locating her parents' marriage certificate and birth certificates for further information; repeat for as many generations of family tree as there are documents; if any of her parents came from a different place - like Tabris' new spouse - then the Crows are stuck, unless! there's a mention of their birthplace on the marriage certificate, in which case they would have to travel there and repeat the process all over again.
And that's with travel time measured in weeks or months. And we are assuming there are records and no archive caught on fire at any point during a war or flooded, or had a rat problem or mold. . .
Yeah, finding information on somebody in those times was hard. There's a reason it was so much easier to disappear and start again back then.

Well, depending on how good Gwyn's relationship with Lucanis is, she might tell him or she might start pulling away. In which case he might so some digging on his own to figure out what's going on, especially if he connects that to the meeting with Neria.
Or maybe he confronts her and it comes out during an argument?
I don't know how specific to be here so I'll start kinda vague. Neria was born in clan Sabrae, Templars (who had been wearing plain clothes) tried to take her and her twin brother when they were playing near the edge of the forest. Their father was nearby and tried to protect them but the Templars killed him and took Neria, her brother managed to escape. A few months later Neria's mother and brother left both the clan and Fereldan, her husband was dead and as far as she knew Neria had been taken by multiple human men. She had no hope that Neria was still alive, so she moved to a village in the Anderfels, hoping to keep her son safe. Years later she falls in love with and marries a city elf, and they have Gwyneira.
The only reason Gwyneira and Neria end up meeting is because Isabela took one look at Gwyneira and thought that, she really kinda looked like Neria. Isabela mentions it to Zevran the next time he visits, thinking it's a weird coincidence. Neria had already gotten multiple letters from people saying how much Rook looked like her, so she decided it wouldn't hurt to see for herself. The first time they meet they don't figure it out, yes do look alike but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. But then Gwyneira writes home to her mother about meeting the hero of Fereldan and how she kinda looks like her, and her mother writes back asking to meet her as soon as possible. So Gwyneira uses the Eluvians to bring her mother to the hall of Valor to meet Neria, and then mother and daughter see each other for the first time in over thirty years.
The thing with Gwyneira is she can trust someone completely but still doubt they care about her. So when Neria tells her it would be best to not let the Crows know that they are sisters, she agrees. Things had already been awkward with Lucanis anyway, besides the only one her pulling away would hurt is herself, right?
Maybe Lucanis asks around and Taash accidentally lets it slip, or at least says enough for Lucanis to know that whatever changed with Rook, happened at the Hall of Valor. Or Zevran decides keeping this a secret from the Crows won't really change anything and sneaks into the Lighthouse to give Lucanis the "What are your intentions with my sister-in-law?" talk.
What if one of Neria's kids was taken by slavers and ended up being sold to the Crows? Gwyneira asking for Lucanis' help would be the quickest and probably safest way to rescue her niece or nephew.
Now I need to figure out which of Neria's kids would be taken. The Crows typically recruit younger kids so that means the twenty, seventeen, and fifteen year olds are safe. That leaves either the ten year old, Rin, or the five year old, Luna.
I would say Luna. Old enough to be articulate and trainable, young enough to believe whatever lies the Crows tell her about her family to stop her from trying to escape. If she even knows where to look for them.
Lucanis might be able to help look for them. But unless Neria and Zevran know which House took her, it won't be easy. Lucanis himself says that the Crows are less an organisation and more two dozen factions pointed in a vaguely similar direction.
Yeah, Luna probably makes more sense. Especially since Rin got his personality from Zev (he's a little shit), while Luna is shy and quiet.
It could be less a random kidnapping and more House Arainai holding a ridiculously long grudge. If it had been House Arainai targeting Zevran as revenge for the deaths of multiple Talon's, they might even leave a message to taunt him, tell him not to worry about his daughter, that they would make sure she was well taken care of, just like he had been.
Even if Lucanis wouldn't be much help as a Crow, they could have Spite smell something of Luna's and see if he could track her down.
