Most of you think that the people in Gaza are finally relieved.
No.
They are NOT.
Have any real temporary shelters been allowed in?
Tents? Blankets? Mattresses?
Clothes for families, especially for the children?
It’s November and the weather is getting cold. Kids barely have enough clothes and shoes.
But no one is thinking about any of this, especially those who want to implement a “peace plan.”
No!!!!! It not in their mind because they do not see us as humans.
No dignity. No justice. No peace.
Are you still thinking about helping after hearing all this? Please do not hesitate to donate anything for us. Any donation you make would make us happy and joyful. Donate here
Israel opposes the opening of the Rafah crossing, which was scheduled to open tomorrow, Wednesday. This is the first violation of the agreement.
An airstrike hit the gate of the American Hospital where my mother is — dozens of Palestinians were killed.
Less than an hour ago, I was standing in that exact place. I survived by a miracle. I can’t even describe the scene inside the hospital right now.
I might not be able to go out tomorrow to get my mother’s oxygen tank, and the cost will double.
Please, the situation is catastrophic. Donate and speak about us urgently.

30 airstrikes just hit around us. The ground is shaking, the noise is unbearable. This might be the hardest night of the war.
please share and donate if you can! His mother needs your help!
I can’t sleep. The bombing hasn’t stopped, and my mother is still inside the hospital. Every sound feels like it could be our last.

basically my opinion on many many things is “you should be allowed to do that and i should be allowed to be uncomfortable with it and the government and law should not be involved in this whatsoever”

FrĂĄn floden til havet
In union activism, we have a concept of "low," "medium" and "high" level action.
Low level actions are things that mostly publicly broadcast support: signing your name on a letter to management; participating in an email reply-all action; wearing a union tee shirt or pin on the same day; attending a lunchtime rally in the break room, etc.
Medium level actions are things that are more confrontational and might actually inconvenience management: an email action designed to overwhelm a manager's inbox and make it unusable; doing a work-to-rule day; participating in a march on the boss.
High level actions are things that are even more confrontational or involve withholding labor: public shaming, a sufficiently heated march on the boss; a lunch time "practice picket"; a limited-duration work stoppage; and, of course, an indefinite strike.
Obviously strikes are the thing everyone thinks of, but here's the thing: even the most ideologically committed union member will not be willing to go on strike the first day of your contract campaign.
They just won't. You need to work up to that. You need to get people comfortable with doing less intense things first, and once those seem normal to them, you move up the scale.
People need to see that nothing bad happens after they participate in an action, and they need to see all their co-workers participating, too. They need to see that, yes, this was uncomfortable and maybe even scary, but it was fine and other people here had my back.
This is a lesson the labor movement learned many decades ago that I think other activist groups and activist-minded people would do well to absorb, too:
The Low Level Stuff Is What Makes The Big Stuff Possible
Don't assume that "when it gets bad enough" you'll step up then. Because by then, things will be even more intense than they are now. The needs will be greater and the risks will be scarier. And you will think to yourself, "Everyone else has just been going along with this, so if I take a stand, I'll just get crushed."
Take a small stand now. Go to protests; call Congress; donate money; attend community meetings; join a local political group or get involved with your local democratic party; join or form a tenants union; become a clinic escort; etc. etc. etc.
Take a small stand now and do it over and over until it becomes normal to you.
That's how you become the person who takes bigger stands someday.

"Ah, this is it. This is the moment where we use force."
Leaving aside people's capacity for self-delusion, I'd also argue that threats do not present themselves clearly until far too late.
Image two: Examples of direct action tactics in the middle of the spectrum:
Physically blocking an ICE deportation bus with your bodies
Working with a tenants' union to do eviction defense (blocking sheriffs or security guards from evicting a family)
Organizing an "Underground Railroad" type network
Image three: The purpose of mid-spectrum direct action is to increase the cost & complexity of the enemy's operations, while putting the enemy in a dilemma.
Their dilemma is: "How do we achieve our objectives without overreacting so much that we galvanize more resistance?"
Basic counter-insurgency doctrine.
Image four: No enemy has infinite resources. Not even the US government.
If resistance is widespread, at multiple levels, your enemy will achieve fewer things, at higher cost and more slowly.
Resistance over here means they have to shift focus from over there, taking pressure off other resistance groups.
Image five: It's unfortunate that the history of the Civil Rights movement has been rewritten as "We marched peacefully until our enemies grew a conscience".
MLK and SNCC accomplished a major shift in policy using a deliberate, low-grade insurgency carried out with incredible skill and decades-long strategy.

What is happening now, 90 nautical miles from our shore, is an illegal kidnapping of all those on board the ships that set out to break the siege on us. The Zionist forces are illegally kidnapping activists who are trying to break the siege on Gaza. This is the second time this has happened. Damn the Israelis.
With this mission failing again, please save my friend Nader. The fleet will not be able to deliver aid to Gaza. Please continue to support Nader and his family and donate to them so they can provide food.
The situation here is very dangerous now, many warplanes are hovering over our heads and bombing the east of Deir al-Balah city. The situation is very scary. We live in a tent. Any shrapnel or stray bullet could kill us. There is nothing to throw at me. These are tents, large bricks and bullets. Please donate to save us, please.
Please donate to Nader!
we need to invent a way to explain how deep running and pervasive and subliminal racism and antiblackness is without immediately sounding like an insane conspiracy theorist
female characters are always lighter than male characters. strong characters are almost always dark. aggressive characters are almost always dark. peaceful and intelligent characters are almost always light. even amongst darker characters the lightest one is usually either the leader or the girls. dark is evil and light is good.
if you try to explain this to a white person they look at you like youre insane
briefly pursuing a career in animation radicalized me on this. So many stories from the industry about how you have to start with your character design as dark as possible, because INEVITABLY you'll get "notes" from higher-ups asking you to make them lighter.
In a class about making a pitch bible my teacher once role-played as a shitty executive with a classmate, pressing them in intentionally abrasive ways about why they made their characters diverse. He emphasized that we had to learn to defend these things, because the racism in the industry is extremely deliberate.
Ronald Wimberly's comic essay, Lighten Up, stays evergreen

I missed most of the Iraq war due to being a baby, but every time I read about it I start wondering why we aren’t all talking about it all of the time
it feels like the sort of unforced error that should be obsessively postmortemed for the next fifty years, a catastrophe that should utterly delegitimize the society that made it happen, but instead everybody’s like “oh yeah, that. lmao, that was crazy”
I have to add to this because I was teaching a text about this topic to a bunch of post-2003 undergraduates recently and each time I do so I experience the same sense of disorientation.
This is a war about which the accepted, mainstream consensus is that no one is able to explain the U.S. decision to invade Iraq. The people involved in that decision are unable, in retrospect, to explain or justify it. In almost every postmortem of this decision, you will find some reference to the fact that Richard Haass, who advised Colin Powell at the State Department in 2001-3, has said that he “will go to [his] grave not knowing” why the U.S. invaded Iraq. George Packer, in The Assassins’ Gate, describes the invasion as “something that some people wanted to do.”
This is a war that destroyed a country. It created ISIS. It destabilized the Middle East. It killed a minimum of c. 200,000 people. It displaced millions more. It resulted in devastating losses to the cultural heritage of Iraq. And twenty years on, no one is able to explain why it happened.
It seems to me that there are several important lessons here.
I'm volunteering for a literary journal right now and there's two things I think you all should know.
1. Most people that submit to literary journals are cis white men. We know this because our journal has an anonymous survey about demographics for people that submit.
2. Most things that get submitted to the creative non fiction section are on the level of middle school "What I did over the summer" essays.
I cannot see the demographics of the people whose essays I'm reading, but guys, if you are wondering if you should submit your work to a literary journal or not, I promise you that just in terms of statistics there are a lot of mediocre cis white men and people in general confidently submitting weird crap that isn't literature to literature magazines. Do it. Submit your work. Please. If you want there to be more diversity in literature, be the diversity. Do it. Do it do it do it.
In general literary magazines want to include more diversity, but if poc, queer people, disabled people, etc. don't submit their work then they aren't gonna get more diverse because we just won't have the material necessary to get more diverse. Submit your work. Do it. Do it. Do it do it do it.
Here's a list of university run literary journals. Do it. Get published.
Many indie lit mags also welcome works from BIPOC and LGBTQIA creatives because the editorial staff themselves are in that demographic. Quarantine brought on the start of the SO many indie lit mags - it’s almost a golden age. Don’t be afraid to submit — there will always be so many niches and aesthetics that one will bound to be the one that fits your style.Â
There is so much work from marginalized narratives in litmags these days — people lament there is no representation in media, but that disregards the progress and diversity of the works of editors and writers who help make these litmags possible.Â
There is representation, and it is flourishing. They are waiting to be read.Â
The Lumiere Review compiles a list of submission opportunities every month, and it are always very useful:Â

Fundraisers for people who've lost everything and everyone
Three fundraisers have recently been brought to my attention in particular for individuals who've lost their entire families and homes to the zionist occupation.
Hamdy: a video of him carrying his dead baby sister following an attack on their home has made been widely circulated on Instagram. He didn't just lose his baby sister, but his mother and nearly all of his siblings, cousins, nephews, and nieces. Everything he knew gone in the blink of an eye. He and his sister and father are now stranded without help.
Hossam Bardaweel: having lost all his parents and siblings, he is now responsible for caring for his siblings' wives and their children. Despite the unsurmountable pain he and his brothers' widows are in, they still need to find a way to care for the surviving orphaned children. He needs help in caring for them while he battles his own grief.
Mahmoud Bardawil: he lost his entire family in the bombing of his home. He is the last survivor of his family, unable to say goodbye to them while he himself was being treated at the hospital for an injury he sustained in the bombing. His treatment did not go well and he needs to get treated outside of Ghazzah but it will be expensive. He needs help to evacuate and start a new life.
Do not hesitate to donate to these fundraisers, they all need the help. Whatever you can spare please try to split it between the three of them.
The people most in need of help in Gaza, as the news channels benefit from their story and they do not benefit. I am trying to reach all these people so that we can help them. We will not stop helping people in need.
Tagging with random shit to get it around the internet. I know it's widely frowned upon but in my opinion as many people with eyes and wallets as possible seeing this is more important than fandom etiquette
