Argyle hadn’t been sure why it came out but it just did. He normally didn’t become a super flirty person when they smoked but just staring at Jonathan’s lips like that? He just couldn’t help it. He looks at Jonathan seeing some hesitation but he doesn’t think it’s for the reasons most guys would hesitate. “I do want to- I mean if you want to. If you don’t want to it’s cool dude we can just forget I said anything.” He hopes though that Jonathan is cool with it because he so desperately wants to kiss his friend.

“Ha ha, very funny we didn’t go to his place,” Jenna said, reaching into the fridge for a left over slice. She knew she had a bit of a reputation for hooking up with guys, most of the time people bringing it up or alluding to it didn’t bother her. If men could have meaningless sex all over town then why couldn’t she? When it came to Steve though, the words tended to dig into her more. Even if she was reasonably certain that he never meant it that way. Hopping up to sit on the counter she took a bite of the pizza.

 “He took me to Enzo’s for dinner, and at first I was like Oh my gosh, how sweet? A real guy my age who wants to treat me well take me on a real date,” Jenna explained, covering her mouth so Steve wouldn’t see the food she was chewing while telling the story. “But he didn’t take my jacket, or pull out my chair for me. Which is fine, y’know? I don’t really care that much for displays of chivalry, but he barely even greeted me and before the waiter could even take our drink order he was trying to shove his hand up my skirt under the table. So I threw my lukewarm water in his face and stormed out.”

Steve frowned. He hadn’t actually assumed that she went to his place but he supposed he could see that interpretation. “I dunno, guys give off a vibe before you even go to their house sometimes, or they won’t shut up about weird shit,” he mumbled. He had a cousin who was super into war memorabilia and it was obvious just from the way that he carried himself in the world. It would take two seconds for him to flex his ridiculously specific knowledge on anyone.

He listened to the story with a serious frown etched onto his face. Humming under his breath, he replied, “Well, that’s shitty. I mean you didn’t even know the guy?” he exclaimed. Steve had hooked up with plenty of girls but he always made sure to have some build up, that sex was something they were interested in. “You know, there are guys out there like that who will see you as like, a person. I dunno how you can tell which ones they are but I know they exist.” He hadn’t always been the best at this but ever since he and Nancy broke up, he made some effort to get to know the girls he went out with.

     He took a long drink from the coffee, made a slight face. They’d definitely served better here. He took a few packets of sugar from the center of the table and tore them open. He didn’t answer right away as he dumped the sugar into his cup and slowly stirred the sweetness in.

     “I never said mysterious so I’m not sure what gave you that impression.”

Jean laughed and sipped her own coffee. She shook her head and sighed. “Well, typically to state something is mysterious, makes it far less so,” she pointed out. She poked his hand playfully and smiled.

The dark purple dress that Hera wore when she greeted Harry at her door hugged her figure, showing off just a hint of cleavage. A smile curled up her crimson lips, ❝You’re right on time,❞ she said, leaning in for a kiss. She let him inside where two glasses of wine where already waiting for them.

She handed a glass to him and took the other for herself. ❝I know I’m a little late, and I’m sorry, but, I wanted to say, happy birthday, darling.❞ Taking his hand, she gave him a gentle tug toward the back door so he could see.

Beyond them, just outside in the garden was laid out a dinner for two that Hera, herself, had spent the better part of the day making. ❝I took the liberty of finding out your favorites.❞

Harry hadn’t expected anything special when he arrived at his girlfriend’s door--was that what they were now? Something as mundane as boyfriend and girlfriend? Considering their whirlwind start, he’d never quite believe it. “You look amazing!” He enthused, leaning into the kiss. 

He waved a hand and followed her. “You know those sorts of things don’t matter to me--” But he understood that they mattered to her. She liked very much to give him gifts and spoil him.

He walked into the garden with her, his eyes wide with surprise. “Oh, thank you dear--I think you’ve been mislead though, Shepard’s Pie isn’t my favorite,” he teased, the smile making it clear that he didn’t mean it. He sat down at the table with the glass of wine. “You’ve really gone all out. I’m happy.”

     She didn’t react to his outburst, standing back far enough that he couldn’t take the bottle without lunging again. And if he did, so what? She wasn’t his conscience to tell him what to do or not do. 

     “Mm, threats. Right. You’re gonna kill me or somethin’ if I don’t give it back.” Kat took a swig from the bottle, made a face. There was a slight burn as it went down, but other than that she felt nothing. Alcohol never lasted long enough in her system to even get buzzed—not unless she downed a very large amount in a very short time. Even then the effect didn’t last long. 

     She took another drink, then held out the bottle. “I mean, ya could but it wouldn’t really stick. Never does.” Her grip loosened and the bottle’s neck slipped through her fingers.

Five grumbled and allowed her to drink a little bit. At least he had a slight buzz going right now and he’d jump to swipe the bottle before he allowed her to finish it. Five folded his arms over his chest and glared at her.

“No, I’m not really interested in killing, not anymore--’s just a job, a paycheck,” he insisted, even though the flare of anger still flickered in the back of his mind. His eyes remained trained very intensely on the bottle that mattered so much to him. His mouth fell open as the bottle dropped. In the blink of an eye, he appeared beside her to catch the bourbon, the heavy set alcohol having no apparent negative effects on his abilities.

“Yeah well,” she shrugged a bit. “It’s basically me and my sister but I still can’t bake.” She didn’t give her mom too much credit but at least there was food on the table most nights. “I think I can at least cook a little bit.” She and Cassie took turns in front of the stove whenever their mom was too sauced. “It’s sort of like my thoughts just went everywhere.” She knew there was a lot she brushed aside or didn’t want to think about on a daily basis that it was no wonder it all came to her when she wasn’t able to consciously push aside her anxieties. 

The pout Eddie used against her only made her blush a bit. “We really should be studying,” Lexi began to protest before she shrugged. “But… we can’t really work if we’re hungry.” She caved too easily, influenced a bit by his words but also by the way his eyes seemed to widen before her. “But just this once. New time we get food before we start talking.” She gave in to admitting she thought of a next time when she would be around him. 

Eddie frowned at that. He always figured she had a good life at home since she came across as so put together. He actually admired that about her. “What about your parents? They work a lot?” That he would understand. He rarely saw his uncle and if he did, the man was trying to get some well-earned sleep. He nodded. “Ahhh... yeah, that happens; but usually I’m just like, what if the Hawkins Lab has LSD experiments going on? What if they’re dousing the water supply? Crazy shit like that,” he admitted with a chuckle. He never took it too seriously once his high subsided.

Eddie grinned, a little proud of the flush on her cheeks. He flirted with a lot of girls but only seemed to have that sort of effect very rarely. “Deal--next time,” he agreed with a wink. He stood and stretched, his shirt pulling up just a little bit before he headed out the door. He held it open for her and headed towards his van. “I appreciate you helping me. I really do wanna graduate this year, be done with this fucking place,” he shouted, eyes risen towards the sky.

Nancy had picked up some corn nuts as well to go with the drinks she had been planning on buying. She hadn’t known exactly why the other girls had chosen her as the one to go in and get everything. Maybe it had been because she was the newest member of the group. She still wasn’t all that sure about them, and she did just miss Barb. They’d been friends since they were in diapers. 

She really couldn’t tell if Jonathan had been making fun of her or not. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she looked to him. He was hard to read. “I don’t think I need a sugar rush. Thanks.” She answered, just as sarcastic as he was. Even if she thought that he was being a bit of a jerk. It wasn’t like she had done anything to him.

“That is the very problem. I don’t really like my friends.” She confessed with a small shrug. But, she didn’t want to be humiliated if she just stopped being friends with them. They’d make her life a living Hell if she even confessed that she didn’t like them. Especially Carol. She would make sure that Nancy got humiliated worse than anyone else.

Jonathan didn’t know when high school became such a source of fear. The people at the top only seemed to stay that way by shitting on everyone else. Opting out wasn’t much of a choice either. Once they set their sights on you or saw you as some sort of threat, you were screwed. He’d just started getting in their faces for the fun of it. The approach got bonus points for helping him vent his feelings about his bullshit father.

He shrugged. “Sure, I just thought you might want something a little sweet to help offset the liquor. He didn’t have anything against her, not at all. He simply couldn’t imagine how boring and predictable the rager scene actually was.

Morgan looked at Steve, her head cocking to the side a little. “I never thought that was all there was to you, to be fair.” She breathed softly. “Perhaps one day though, you might show me who the real Steve Harrington is.” She smiled a little.

The blonde then nodded “Sure. I mean, I have no idea what kind of movie I even want to pick, so I could do with some recommendations, and you can take as long as you like to recommend some to me.” She then said, her smile growing a little.

“How about Harrington?” 

Steve smiled, glad that she showed him a little mercy despite the reputation. “Well, you’ll probably be disappointed, but I will call you back the next day.” He hadn’t just ghosted any girls since Nancy even if he just didn’t feel the same magic. He fully felt at fault, like he had lost himself in a funk.

He nodded. A distraction would help. He tapped on the counter, not really great at the recommendation thing. “Well--what d’you like? Are you into comedy, horror, drama? I’m mostly into comedy I guess.” But he really just watched whatever Robin told him to these days. 

Trevor smirks as he takes another hit. “Sounds like a good friend to me,” as he let’s out a cough. “Ya, ya, it is. Shit-” He can’t help but laugh as he taps the ash off his joint. Definitely stronger than the stuff grown in Hawkins. “I uh- actually lived in Cali before I moved here. Forgot how hard the weed hits,” He confesses as his shoulders relax a bit and they wait for the next act to beguin.

S͓̽t͓̽e͓̽v͓̽e͓̽ H͓̽a͓̽r͓̽r͓̽i͓̽n͓̽g͓̽t͓̽o͓̽n͓̽

S͓̽teve was looking at Eddie and was unsure what the other was thinking. He shrugged a bit. “I don’t know…,” he looked a bit flustered as soon as Eddie mentioned that. He hadn’t expected that comment and assumed Eddie was now teasing him in return. The guy already seemed to flirt with him on occasion. Him and Robin often teased each other as friends. Steve just blamed it on spending too much time with her and nothing else. H͓̽e shrugged again and looked up at him. A sad smile crossed his face for a moment.  ❝I would rather have you practice then be here alone. Besides its better than the fact we almost lost you.❞ He was on his feet to go and fix his hair and he went to the bathroom. He wanted to get it done so they could leave. He truly did hate being alone. But he also hated it when his parents were home. He made sure to not take too long with his hair. But he made sure it still looked good. He came back once his hair was done.  ❝There I am done.❞

Eddie laughed, always thrilled by the way his commentary got under Steve’s skin. Anything he could do to undermine the irritating confidence that ‘the hair’ was well known for left him feeling a little giddy. He patted Steve on the shoulder. “Relax Steven--I won’t let it go to my head,” he insisted with a scoff that masked some quiet judgment of the other as too uptight. He had been more careful with his criticisms since he ended up sharing a roof with Harrington.

“It was very reckless of you,” nancy says it pointedly, but the slight wobble in her smile shows it’s nothing more than a little soft chastising. “But yeah. You did good, Munson.” she pats his hand, shaper grin on her face, “Bought us more time so we could throw a flaming thank you gift Vecna’s way.” and then… then she sobers.

“Max, she’s… she’s comatose. Hasn’t been responsive the last couple days,” it’s takes a lot in her not to burst as she describes it. She didn’t know Max all that well, but she’d secretly taken up the mantle of big sister for her along with El. So if she doesn’t come out the other side okay… Nancy fumbles with his blanket, tearing at the frayed edges. “But she’s still with us. Doctor’s said her vital signs are promising, so,” she fears she sounds too clinical about all this, but it’s all she’s got against the onslaught of feelings she’s got about the situation. Eddie’s words lift her out of it, makes her eyes water to the point where one single tear slips heavy down her cheek.

Hopes Eddie has the grace not to call attention to it. “Not that brave,” a chuckle leaves her lips, wet and struck with gratitude. “But, thank you. …You’re pretty brave yourself, you know. Don’t know who else would’ve done what you did and made it out okay.” Okay maybe being an overstatement, but still. She watches him take in his surroundings for a bit. Reaches for the remote to turn up the tv in the corner as she explains, “An old friend of ours did us a favor. Said it’d be safer if we laid low for a bit,” it wasn’t the smartest decision but she looks down and bites her lip on reflex, assessing the damage. “Guess you’ve joined the scar club like the rest of us,” gesturing towards the ones that litter the metalhead’s body.

Eddie grins, smile wide and almost euphoric as she praises him. Despite the pain, he only seems to care now about the success of the mission. “Sounds fucking gnarly. Man, I wish could’ve seen it!” he exclaims. he stops short of saying he wishes he had been there; he’s not that self-destructive. Sometimes, people got hurt, and now, that meant more than simply handing in your character sheet. He swallows nervously as she describes Max’s status. “Shit...” He mutters.

He bites the back of his bottom lip, a tight frown settling onto his face. His gaze drops and he notices her fumbling with the blanket. A hiss of an inhale and he reaches across the bed to place his hand on hers. He can’t recall any time before that he’s touched her and yet, at this moment, he can’t imagine not reaching out to her. “Hey--we’re almost 10/10, and it sounds like she’ll be ok,” he tries to reassure her, as though she isn’t the one who just updated him.

Luna smiled a bit wider at his comment. “Of course he isn’t,” she agreed. “In fact, he looks like quite a distinguished cat.” She leaned into Harry, watching Moony.

She watched Harry pet Moony, fondness for him, and happiness for him, filling her. She was glad to see Harry building a life, forming attachments. It made her happy for him, and being a part of that helped her feel like she had found her own place in the world too.

Harry nodded at that and scratched him, wandering over to the couch in his tiny flat. He tugged Luna by the hand and settled down beside her, ready to relax a bit. 

Nancy nodded. She had never wanted to be popular. She couldn’t stand most of the popular kids. Especially Tommy and Carol. Steve was different. But, she had felt herself pulling away from him. And she knew it was the guilt over Barb that was driving in that wedge. She just had to pretend like everything was fine. Everything was good between them.

“I’ll sound like a crazy person if I tell them that she was taken by a monster.” She sighed and put her head in her hands. “And then the police would get involved, and I’ll probably get told that I’m crazy. Or that the trauma is making me make shit up. I need proof.”

Jonathan winced. He remembered how he doubted his own mother’s insanity when they first found Will’s supposed body. He didn’t like that he had been so skeptical but, looking back, he had a pretty normal reaction. “Well, then we just need to find proof,” he insisted with a nod. “I wanna help. It’ll help ease my guilt over doubting my mom,” he explained with a slight smile.

He gave the older a grateful smile, lowering himself down onto the well-worn couch and doing his best to relax into it. And to appear more relaxed than he felt. Not that he was uncomfortable around Eddie — quite the opposite — but he had way too much energy for this early in the morning and for not having slept a wink in who knows how long. Although that was far from unusual for him. It was seeking someone else out that was a little abnormal.

“Sure man, I’d love to hear it,” he agreed, relieved that he wouldn’t need to be explaining himself to an adult. Or worse, having said adult attempting to contact his mother. He really didn’t feel like having to deal with that and have any attention drawn to himself.

“Uh, sure? I’ll have water or whatever you have,” he answered, not wanting to intrude more than he already had. “I’m good with anything.” The auburn-haired boy looked around the trailer, it was small but it felt better than his own house. It didn’t feel the same. There was life  here. Bill had thought that maybe that feeling would go away when they moved but that wasn’t the case. “You been working on anything else?” Now was as good a time as any for him to get a head start on what they might be performing as a band at some point. The drums had come fairly naturally to him and Bill found that he enjoyed playing with them even if it would be for a short while.

Eddie stood from the couch and wandered towards the small fridge in their kitchen. “You more of a coke or sprite person?” He asked, grabbing whatever the boy preferred. He didn’t know much about the kid’s home life but it didn’t strike him personally as very strange that Bill would be wandering around in the middle of the night. He spent most of his formative years alone at night. He used to get most of his reading done at night, but now he used it for practice more than anything. Sure, sometimes, he got noise complaints, but Uncle Wayne was always understanding and he didn’t play full blast.

He handed over the soda and collapsed back onto the couch with a grunt. He picked up the warlock he’d been working with. He picked up the needle on the record player and went back to the beginning of the song. He shook his head. “I mean, nothing aside from some shit I’m trying to put lyrics to. It hasn’t been going well.” He had a little bit of writer’s block right now although he wasn’t sure why. Shouldn’t discovering the town was full of monsters inspire him?
