Hey this may sound like a very stupid question. But what are the advantages and disadvantages that each inferior function has? i.e what are the pros and cons of inferior si and ni etc.
The advantage is that you are not limited to your inferior function and will not get hung up on it, the disadvantage is that you will neglect thinking about it.
So if an ESXP is not limited by a single vision, the flip side is that they may not have one and will just wander through life from thing to thing with no real idea of what they want at the end of it.
An ENXP will not be bound by sentiment or adoration of the past, but may neglect building a sensible home environment for themselves or neglect their basic needs and self-care so that they are not well provided for in their old age.
An EXTJ will not be limited by their feelings, but also may neglect them and not have a good understanding of what motivates them or have faith in their ability to maintain close relationships.
An EXFJ will not be limited by needing to understand something before using it, but may also never analyze their own motives or stop to make sure their reasoning is sound before they proceed.
An IXTP isnât hung up on what others think of them, but also doesnât know their own feelings and tends to lash out irrationally with them from time to time, leading them to have an erratic emotional life that can intimidate others.
IXFP isnât hung up on the facts or a need to succeed, but also doesnât know when itâs more rational to leave a situation, argument, etc., or how much money their time is worth, so they may struggle to make good financial decisions.
An ISXJ isnât bothered by indecision over thinking of 60 different possibilities, but also may not stop to think about alternate approaches unless forced to by circumstances, causing them to get blindsided by the bigger picture.
An INXJ isnât bothered by physical limitations or reality, but can also neglect to be aware of them and live in a fantasy world as a result, or wind up getting hurt due to not paying attention to the outer world or overestimating their abilities.

Cognitive Functions and their Paradoxes
Fi âI donât like to see others sadâ âI want my feelings to be taken care of firstâ
Fe âI need to help everybodyâ âI hate everybodyâ
Ti âI understand everything so much better than othersâ âIt is not humanly possible to reach a state of complete knowledgeâ
Te âI want to meet goals quicklyâ âMy impatience makes me miss out important details, which slows down everythingâ
Ni âI know the truth of everythingâ âMy mind is so abstract that I canât pin down what Iâm thinkingâ
Ne âI have a million possible ideasâ âBut I have a hard time deciding which one is better than the restâ
Si âI need to remember every little detail to feel safeâ âBecause I know all the minute angles of a situation by heart, I can perceive a million ways things can go wrong and I feel very unsafeâ
Se âIâm one with my surroundingsâ âI can be so reckless that I keep making physical accidentsâ
Just give them credit for trying
Enneagram 6: The Loyalist
Healthy Sixes trust their own experiences and are okay with being unable to predict the outcome. They are productive, logical thinkers who organize their thoughts and actions around what is most advantageous for the common good. Astute judges of character, they are honest, loyal, reliable, and positive.
Six Traits
Sixes imagine and plan for the worst
Sixes distrust authority figures
Sixes are sharp, analytically-minded troubleshooters
Sixes are the ultimate devilâs advocate
Sixes are funny, understanding, loyal, and compassionate
Sixes suffer from almost-constant low-level anxiety
Sixes are quick and competent in a crisis⌠then fall apart
Sixes wait for the other shoe to drop
Sixes are rarely sure theyâve made the right decision
Fear influences all of the Sixâs life choices
Sixes hate unpredictable situations and prefer order to chaos
Sixes distrust flattery or too many compliments
Sixes are slow to open up but then never leave you
Sixes are skeptical of the unknown and ask hard questions
Sixes see two sides to everything and doubt themselves
Sixes turn their anxiety into self-depreciating humor
Sixes often forget their past success and take on too much work
Enneagram Wings
6w5: are intellectual, cautious, self-controlled, introverted, and seek security through an authority figure; they feel safest in groups that share their values or belief systems; they protect their personal information and seek alone time, which exacerbates their fears; often, they over-analyze instead of act.
6w7: are entertaining, adventurous, and playful, willing to take risks for their loved ones, but always careful to have a backup plan in case the mission fails.
Phobic: these Sixes obey the rules and are loyal to authority, in whom they place their trust, are deferential to their boss and avoid conflict. They do not challenge their fears and instead stay inside âsafe zones.â
Counter-Phobic: these Sixes are less compliant and agreeable, more inclined to actively challenge authority to provoke a counter-attack (and reveal the truth about the âauthorityâ). They try to identify, target, and defeat their fears.
Under stress: Sixes act like unhealthy Threes (become workaholics, pursue material success, and hoard resources to make them feel more secure); they put on a facade of competence to dull their anxiety and impress others with how âtogetherâ they are, but refuse to do anything they doubt they can succeed at or take unnecessary risks.
When feeling secure: Sixes move to the positive side of Nine, less likely to have panic attacks about what could happen, stop planning for disasters, and have less general anxiety. They become amusing, flexible, enigmatic, and energetic, and less narrow-minded or rigid in their beliefs, able to trust their instincts about other people and become less jaded.
Advice for the 6: doubt yourself less, and trust yourself more. You have more courage and strength than you know. Believe that whatever happens, you can always find a place of safety, and you can trust your friends to have your back. Rebel when necessary, not out of fear. Record your successes and read them often, to remind yourself of your previous success. Be positive about othersâ ideas, instead of tearing them apart. Learn to recognize the difference between legitimate fear and free-flowing anxiety.
Influences on MBTI Types:
ISTJ: relies on extensive knowledge and research to prepare oneself for the worst, motivated through inferior Ne fears of âthe great unknownâ; unlikely to take risks, semi-aggressive in pointing out logical flaws; may become rigid in their belief system and traditionalist in their views.
ESTJ: a safety-first decision-maker and reluctant leader, who prepares for all possible negative outcomes and does not move forward until certain of success; may distrust and push away from their emotions, fearing they might be a source of âweakness,â leading to poor inferior Fi development (and insecurity in their relationships, which causes additional anxiety); prone to traditionalist or nationalist thinking (their âsafeâ zone).
ISFJ: relies on extensive knowledge and research to prepare oneself for the worst, motivated through inferior Ne fears of âthe great unknownâ; unlikely to take risks, desperate to form emotional connections but hesitant to reveal too much personal information; extremely loyal and care giving toward those who win their trust, often uses self-depreciating humor to amuse others, but semi-detached from their feelings (over-reliant on analyzing and problem-solving with Ti).
ESFJ: takes on a mothering role in protecting and shepherding their loved ones / trying to anticipate and problem-solve any potential issues, eager to avoid risk, feels safest in familiar territory and/or with others who share their values; low Ne issues of paranoid suspicions, indecisive and second-guessing of their decisions (low Ne issues + 6 fearfulness); strong reliance on inferior Ti, but insecurity about its blind spots.
INTJ: distrustful and secretive, prone to negative idealization and/or may face high Ni conflict with 6 in trying to identify and eliminate problem areas as they go; may have trouble identifying a safe zone, and involve themselves in a rigid ideology to feel safe; pushes away from inferior Se / risk taking, overestimates how much they can accomplish at once; due to indecisiveness, may mistype as a Ne or Si type.
ENTJ: often builds their own system which enables them to feel safe, or distrusts authority other than their own; uses Se to deal with problems as they happen, but has a negative outlook on life and always prepares for the worst; may be indecisive and self-doubting, has inferior Fi issues of feeling anxious in their relationships, which combines with Ni âreadingâ between the lines / into things overmuch.
INFJ: distrustful and secretive, prone to negative idealization and/or may face high Ni conflict with 6 in trying to identify and eliminate problem areas as they go; may have trouble identifying a safe zone, and involve themselves in a rigid ideology to feel safe; pushes away from inferior Se / risk taking, desperate to form emotional connections but hesitant to reveal too much personal information; extremely loyal and care giving toward those who win their trust, often uses self-depreciating humor to amuse others, but semi-detached from their feelings (over-reliant on analyzing and problem-solving with Ti).
ENFJ: takes on a mothering role in protecting and shepherding their loved ones / trying to anticipate and problem-solve any potential issues, eager to avoid risk, feels safest with others who share their values; uses Se to deal with problems as they happen, but has a negative outlook and always prepares for the worst; strong reliance on inferior Ti, but insecure about their relationships; may fall into a narrow ideology (Ni) to feel safe.
ESTP: far more risk-adverse and more analytical than other ESTPs, may mistype as an ISTP due to reliance on Ti, with inferior Ni struggling to identify future negative outcomes; prone to a lot of negativity about the future (and singular conclusions about it); less self-assured about their ability to wing things, prone to low-level anxiety over tert-Fe (the desire to connect to others, but uncertainty and suspicion causing detachment issues).
ISTP: intensely analytical, with frequent Ti/Ni loops (predicting the worst and preparing for it), not inclined to risk-taking, low NiFe desire to connect to a larger ideology or group who can provide security in being ârightâ; especially good at pointing out logical fallacies, and trusting of their ability to âread intoâ authority figuresâ motives.
ESFP: more covetous of traditionalism and rigid ideology than other ESFPs, prone to knee-jerk reactive (and often competent) impulses; less emotional and more driven to arm oneself with Te facts / logic / strong decision making, but struggles with continual self doubt, waffles on decisions once made, and feels insecure about going out on a limb alone; may cling to an ideology of the future that makes them feel safe (Ni).
ISFP: less emotional and more reliant on logic than other ISFPs, prone to Ni-looping (fear of singular negative outcomes, and then uses Te to try and effectively head them off); hard-working and responsible, but does not like additional responsibilities; may distrust their logic center, and feel safer when others agree with them. Prone to negativity and becoming secretive and withdrawn when anxious.
ENTP: quick to read beneath the surface and assign motives to authority figures, or point out flaws in proposed ideas; often indecisive, self-doubting, craves external affirmation and reassurances about their logic (tert-Fe needs); may be safety-conscious and reluctant to abandon old belief systems that root them into âfeelingâ safe about the unknown (inferior Si); less risk-taking than other ENTPs, and more traditional / covetous of finding something, anything to cling to that seems âtrue.â
INTP: super-analytical and detached, wants to connect to a community through shared values (low Fe) but suspicious, distrustful, quick to read beneath the surface and assign motives to others or second-guess their relationships, often loyal to former ideologies or belief systems (faith, science, nationalism, family, etc) as their security checkpoint; will read up on many different things in order to âarm themselves for the worst.â
ENFP: quick to read beneath the surface and assign motives to authority figures, or point out flaws in proposed ideas; often indecisive, self-doubting, and distrustful of their Ne (they may not feel it is âpracticalâ in the real world) â which means over-reliance on tert-Te to problem solve, point out rational flaws in proposed ideas, and come up with worst-case scenarios instead of the usual Ne-dom optimism; may be detached from their emotions as a result of continual Ne/Te looping; may be safety-conscious and reluctant to abandon old belief systems that root them into âfeelingâ safe about the unknown (inferior Si); less risk-taking than other ENFPs, and more traditional / covetous of finding something, anything to cling to that seems âtrue.â
INFP: less emotional and more reliant on logic than other INFPs, quick to read beneath the surface and assign motives to authority figures, or point out flaws in proposed ideas; often indecisive, self-doubting, and distrustful of their Ne (they may not feel it is âpracticalâ in the real world); strong Si-roots (areas in their thought process they refuse to question, challenge, or second-guess); may distrust their logic center, and feel safer when others agree with them. Prone to disappearing when anxious.

How functions in MBTI work in every type
an MBTI Feeling type analysis, by an INTJ-A
Honestly, as a Thinking type with many Feeling friends, I am very tired of hearing dumb things about Feeling types like âTheyâre less rational than usâ or âThey wear their hearts on their sleeves and thatâs not very goodâ. Hereâs why.
I spent over a year on the official 16personalities.com websiteâs academy reading up and thinking about types. And hereâs what Iâve got:
Thinking types are, in terms of emotion, less rational than Feeling types. Feeling types arenât the happy, butterfly loving kids that doodle rainbows. To do justice for all the Feeling types out there, take my word as an INTJ and Thinking type that has many Feeling friends, that the Feeling types are as rational as us. They are not always happy or flowery, they can be critical because chains of thought spark from emotion, from inspiration. In fact, they are more capable than us. How so?
Thinking types normally react negatively to emotions. Myself? Guilty as charged.
We tend to bottle them up, or suppress them. This makes us view that emotions are irrational because we react to it negatively, harming ourselves. Thus, we tend to see it in an irrational light.
Feeling types, however, are Feeling types because they capable of regulating and incooperating their emotions into their daily lives. Everytime they feel it, they analyse it. Break it down, and live in it. This is why theyâre better at gut feeling and instincts. They maximise the function of emotion, something many Thinking types are unable to do.
That being said, Feeling types are not superior, as to every benefit, detriments ride alongside them. Feeling types find it hard to switch to a completely objective view, and they have great difficulty in being cynical, which is sometimes needed and the success formula to make certain seemingly impossible ideas work. These are where Thinking types shine.
Conclusion? Feeling types arenât irrational. They are as rational as us; just in a different area, in a different field of expertise.
I rest my case.
(Disclaimer: This, of course is a generalisation. Iâve met some Thinkers (mostly INTJs and INTPs) that are very good at rationalising emotions, and some Feelers that are still pretty awkward with emotions.)
So... INTP, ENFP, BULL, SHIT
Unpopular opinion on the Myers Briggâs 16 Personality Type Test here.

The thing is, for a lot of people it gives a group to identify with, which makes people feel more comfortable and less anxious about the way they are. For example, I always thought I was weird and strange in how I loved social interaction but got overwhelmed and had to be alone a good bit of the time. Then, I found out I was an ENFP and it made me realize hey, Iâm not weird, this is just how my brain works, and thatâs comforting.

enfps and love: a speculation
trust.
trust.
trust.
trust.
I know, I know. Aww. âENFPs are so cute and gullible! Why would trust be important to them? donât they trust like everyone?â Wrong.
ENFPs do not trust people. At all. Especially, when it comes to emotions, ENFPs guard that shit like itâs all the gold in Fort Knox. I could count the number of people who has seen me cry since i was a baby with my hands and Iâd still have fingers left. Smiling is our default facial expression. Kindness is our default personality setting. Neither takes any effort from us so we have this trusting, nice sweet aura to us.
Now being in a relationship is a big deal because unless we trust you, it. will. end. and it will be ugly as fuck. We need to feel emotionally connected to our partners and thereâs going to be no emotion involvement if we donât trust you so whatâs freaking point of being in a relationship with you?Â
so how do you get access to this treasure we call âtrustâ?
mutual respect and admiration
it has to be mutual.Â
we enfps are warm and kind and loving partners. we will put in so much effort on you! every smile you give we will give you ten! we always feel so grateful for any kind of affection from you that we feel like we need to return it a hundred times over. and that can be exhausting. so please try to put in as much as effort as we do and make us realise that we have no reason to be disgustingly grateful for your kindness.
thatâs all.
honestly weâre complicated. but not in the way you think. if you are ours, we are yours.
SO true. Trust is the biggest issue in my current relationship, as I'm trying hard to trust him (and I think i'm there now) but it was SO difficult to get here because I have the most difficult time with trust!!
MBTI as Night Vale Proverbs
ESTJ: âIâm all business,â I say, peeling off my skin strip by strip, showing you what oozes out. âBusiness to my core.â
ISTJ: Be careful what you wish for. Because it probably wonât come true, and life is about expectations management.
ESFJ: Knock knock. Whoâs there? Orange. Orange who? Orange you glad I didnât say your motherâs in the hospital. Iâm sorry. Iâm so sorry. Is there anything I can do? Listen. Iâll drive you over there. Weâll leave right now. Grab a coat; itâs a little cold out. Iâm so sorry.
ISFJ: Eating meat is a difficult moral decision, because itâs stolen, that meat. You should apologise.
ESTP: Pain is just weakness leaving the body, and then being replaced by pain. Lots of pain.
ISTP: âThereâs no harm in tryingâ really depends on what youâre trying. Either way, give it a go - itâs probably fine.
ESFP: I let my haters be my motivators. Mostly they tell me I suck, and then I get sad. This was a terrible idea.
ISFP: Say what you will about dance, but language is a limited form of expression.
ENFJ: If you love someone, set them free. Set them free now. This is the police, and we have you surrounded.
INFJ: If I said you had a beautiful body, would it even matter because we are so insignificant in this vast incomprehensible universe?
ENFP: Ask your doctor just who he thinks he is. Say it just like that. Say, âWho do you think you are?â See if he starts crying. I know I would.
INFP: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never quite describe the pain.
ENTJ: Â Remember that all sentences must have a noun, a verb, and the phrase âfoolish mortalsâ.
INTJ: Listen. Iâm not a hero. The real heroes are the people that point out to us when protesters have smartphones, thus invalidating all concerns.
ENTP: Lost? Confused? Lacking direction? Need to find a purpose in your life?
INTP: Look to the sky. You will not find answers there, but you will certainly see what everyone is screaming about.
