It is super dishonest to pretend that abusers and rapists do not exist in the community. I’ve seen this idea of “BDSM never involves abuse” make it really, REALLY hard for survivors to get help and resources in the community. The scene is not safe, just like vanilla life is not safe. It isn’t 100 percent super-scary-run-away, and neither is vanilla life. But god damn I want people to stop saying that the community is free of predators or beyond abuse. Please.
