I am never not surprised by this fandom because how the conversation became “why is Louis being mean?” or you don't like dis reaction , instead of engaging with what the scene is actually doing.
Of course Louis is weirded out. Most people would be. He just found out about his ex and his mother, and Lestat's talks about it casually, then makes a joke about technically being in the womb instead of the vagina
And I think some fans refuse to accept that the audience is not obligated to react to Gabistat with the same detached or camp attitude as Lestat himself. Louis is very obviously serving as the normal “human” reaction in that scene because otherwise it just becomes “hehe sexy incest vampire joke”
His discomfort is important because it reminds the audience that this dynamic is deeply disturbing even if Lestat tries to normalize or joke about it.
And another thing, Louis probably doesnt even know the full psychological context yet. In that moment all he sees is:
“my ex is having sex with his mother and is talking about it like it is normal.”
So no, he was not going to applaud, immediately comfort Lestat, or respond with perfect therapeutic language. Especially when:
- they are separated,
- their relationship is still very much emotionally destroyed,
- Louis himself is exhausted from years of trauma,
- and Lestat just dropped something objectively shocking on him.
People keep acting like Louis has an immediate obligation to decode, absorb and emotionally manage every layer of Lestat’s trauma response no matter what. But if we are actually going to moralize things, then what about Gabrielle?
Gabrielle is the parent. Gabrielle is the original authority figure. Gabrielle is the one blurring the boundaries while Lestat is someone who has been emotionally looking for her validation since childhood.
But somehow the fandom is more offended by Louis saying “stop the car” than by Gabrielle herself

here's an expanded version of the primary poster comparison i made for this post btw in case y'all want a clearer visual wrt the antiblack double standard between how amc marketed s1-s2 (with louis as the title character and unambiguous lead) v s3 (with lestat as the title character and unambiguous lead)
I love the fact that Louis and Lestat were on their way back to each other, but chose friendship first.
Because we all remember s1, they started as friends. They genuinely liked each other’s presence, talking for hours, opening up in a way they rarely did with anyone else.
So when they try again, they go back to that. They try to rebuild from friendship. And I think it’s beautiful.
But it was doomed to fail.
You cannot ignore almost an hundred year of history. You cannot just step around something that big, that heavy, that literally ruined lives and pretend you can start from a neutral place?? (My sweet himbos you really thought!)
Of course it was going to explode, book or no book.
I am not saying Loustat needs to be healthy to exist. But they both have things to face, individually and together, before anything can truly work again.
And honestly… that tension? That slow, inevitable collapse before something softer ?
It’s delicious.
look at them ? Or no don't
they just look too good together
Cutest human being

I have been here for days
in iwtv s1-s2, when louis was the unambiguous lead and title character, the marketing sold the show almost like it had an ensemble cast- while louis was foregrounded ofc, lestat, claudia and armand (as of s2) also appeared in key art, posters and other visuals. despite having a limited role in s2, lestat still featured significantly in s2's promo campaign and his lasting impact on all the other characters' narratives was apparent from every trailer and preview. every visual (with the exception of a few character posters) for s1-s2 featured lestat in some way, and even the "murder mansion" 1st look at s2 showing an early flirtation between louis and armand ended on a tease of lestat's name.
in iwtv s3/tvl, when lestat is the unambiguous lead and title character, none of the key art or posters they've released for the season has featured any character except lestat, and the official trailer only shows louis for a few seconds and claudia not at all. the official trailer for s2 told you how important lestat was to louis and to the story in general, despite his decreased screentime- if you're a new viewer, you wouldn't know who louis even is based on the official trailer for s3. just look at the difference in posters alone-
louis' narrative role in s1-s2 and lestat's narrative role in s3 are virtually the same- but there's a stark difference wrt how amc chose to market those respective eras of the show. amc could've easily put together a marketing campaign where lestat was front and center but louis was standing beside/behind him and maybe claudia's shadow or face hung over some of the visuals they released like she's haunting them, kinda like lestat's face projected on the red curtains in one of the s2 posters above. they could've done character posters like they did in previous seasons. the fact that they didn't do any of that is telling, and all of these choices taken in tandem indicate that 1) amc didn't trust a black lead to sell the show "by himself" and made sure his white love interest was almost always next to him 2) amc feels no need to keep show-only viewers from s1-s2 who were primarily invested in louis and claudia's story hooked, bc they either take this audience for granted or see this audience as disposable.
and ofc we know that the story itself matters more than how it's marketed, but i also think it's seriously condescending and microaggressive when nonblack fans start rolling their eyes and saying black fans are entitled or whiny for raising concerns about how amc is selling this story and the whiter audience it's now pursuing, saying we're too obsessed with promo and just making a big deal out of nothing or saying we have nothing to worry about bc louis has more scenes than he did in the book. this isn't about his scenes in s3, this isn't about the content of s3 at all (yet)- louis could have a complex storyline for the ages this season, lestat could grovel before claudia's ghost for abusing her and rolin jones himself could walk onscreen break the 4th wall and say louis and claudia were right about everything, but amc's advertising choices for s3 would still be questionable and merit critique for sidelining its black leads and the obvious double standard between s1-s2 v s3. fans calling out corporate racism shouldn't be conflated with fan entitlement or kpop-style stat chasing.
I have had a rant sitting in my drafts for weeks about Louis barely being present in this promo cycle.
Yes, Claudia is absent too. I still have issues with that, but I can at least see people arguing her storyline involves major spoilers.
What exactly is the excuse for Louis?
We have seen what... 10 seconds of Louis in the marketing of a show he led for two seasons.
And I already know the “it’s Lestat’s book” responses are coming.
Okay. Then why was Lestat heavily present throughout season 2 promo when Louis was still the lead?
Why does strict book accuracy suddenly become sacred only now?
I never even called this the “Loustat show,” but it is fascinating watching people go from “this is a love story” and “they are the heart of the show” to “well actually it was always Lestat’s story.”
That revisionism is very convenient.
And beyond fandom discourse, I find it deeply disrespectful to the work Jacob has done.
Like it or not, he carried this show for two seasons alongside Assad, and Delainey (Sam too obviously). Their performances built the emotional foundation people are so invested in today.
So yes, I find it jarring to watch AMC market season 3 as if Louis is barely part of this story’s DNA.
And I am sorry, but when your cast is largely made up of actors of color and your Black lead suddenly becomes almost invisible in promo while fandom cheers it on, people are allowed to side-eye that.
AMC is not exactly a network with a flawless history here either.
everyone keeps saying the new szn may be good & im nothing but an optimist but i do not believe the choice to center the abuser after two seasons of his victims being the protagonist(s) could ever be fruitful every piece of prestige media is already abt the conflicted abusive white guy & his treacherous past. nothing new. & the fact that it's a shift from something that was, if not new, definitely interesting and careful, is even worse, imho
just repeating what this post has said but it srsly beats the whole point of the first two seasons to center lestat now lol lestat was only interesting bc we learned about him through louis ! he had been crafted with that purpose. the show is not the books abusive love interest is not a role you can transcend in a story like this without sending a very sour message.
I think what is bothering me most about this promo cycle is:
Them using footage of the DV and teasing that Lestat is finally going to "set the record straight" (train scene, Rue Royale, etc.) it takes scenes that were supposed to carry real emotional weight and shape how audiences connected to Louis and Claudia's trauma, and frames them as things to be relitigated yet again.
And yes, I know, it's just promo,it's marketing. We don't know the full context yet.
(And I actually believe the season itself will most likely be about Lestat confronting who he is, what he has done, and how his own past shaped him)
But this still lands in an already polarized fandom and gives ammunition to people who were already looking for reasons to call Louis and Claudia liars.
When every major act of violence can be endlessly revisited through "wait for the next version" or "the truth is coming" the story starts losing emotional impact.
Audiences start thinking: "let's wait for version #3 before feeling anything"
At some point, that stops feeling like complexity and starts weakening the story.
And there is already a huge empathy gap in this fandom.
Lestat's pain, regret, and guilt get immediate sympathy, while Louis and Claudia rarely receive that same instinctive grace.
My concern is using this specific angle for promo when the season will likely explore guilt and accountability in far more interesting ways. When there were so many other ways to tease his perspective without making Louis and Claudia's trauma feel up for debate again.
Right now, it just feels like putting their trauma on trial again...
And what hurts me the most is not even just the clips/trailers .
It's watching people celebrate the chance to discredit Louis and Claudia before the season has even aired.
album tanking, bandmates and polycule unionized and revolting, mommy issues flaring up and the love of ur life shows up looking like this. lestat u have every right to k*s
