I've kept poking around online for IWTV props details, and I saw one this morning that broke my heart. No visual but Pop Culture Weasel on Twitter noticed that someone in Dublin was selling off pieces from a larger auction lot, including "loads of handwritten notes that Claudia does for Louis during their travels, stuff like 'gone out looking for books, come find me when you wake' and bits in French about outdoor 'dining'" (source)
my sweeties
it’s just crazy bc obviously they’re deeply interconnected but even taken separately from one another louis and claudia r both such intricate and compelling characters with two distinct, meaningful, delicately constructed arcs about countenancing trauma and grief like it’s insane andthen to just torpedo . Heartwarming! So-called tolerant gothic horror blog that delves into ‘dark and socially fraught’ topics and themes just as racist as average fandomite

Interesting analysis but Im stuck on "But I was breathing, you couldve taken me to a hospital" & "Is this true?" after Lestat's version of how she was turned. The betrayal there ..
ok yes let's get into it.
"but i was still breathing!": this is the fight when claudia runs away from home. she's desperately hurt; she's throwing everything she's got at louis to inflict as much damage as possible, saying the worst things she could think of to say. in this same speech she says i could have been sweeping floors and carrying babies! going to church! you think on that some, louis! this picture of mortal normalcy is not claudia's personal deepest desires. it's some shade of what louis wishes they both could have had, but that normalcy is constructed, not natural. the desire for it is an unfulfillable desire for safety. even as humans their options were severely curtailed, by patriarchy and by a virulent racist society. sorry bit of a tangent but to return: i do not think the audience is meant to entertain this like oh my god claudia totally could have survived her wounds. maybe a different kind of miracle would have happened and she would have survived some other way, but probably not.
lestat's version of the turning: lestat doesn't even suggest that claudia wasn't actually going to die. the trial's version of events is that louis was hysterical and ignored lestat's warning that claudia would be doomed. here we once again have the argument that claudia is fundamentally broken and should never have been made, weaponized to its full extreme. the goal with this entire narrative is to lynch her and louis. to portray louis as dangerous and unstable and claudia as a tragic mistake. the audience is not meant to trust lestat's account, but even more than that--even if we suppose this lynch trial retelling is accurate--we're not meant to come to the same conclusion that the trial does. it does get to claudia in the moment, but her subsequent defense of louis during the show trial, her clutching for him when he's ripped away, and her defiance up to her last moment show the consistency of her love for louis and her fundamental regard for her own existence. and what makes the tragedy of the whole show effective AND brings louis the most closure is that claudia's death was NOT inevitable. claudia loved and was loved! she was victimized over and over, she was sick of enduring and she felt like something was going to explode inside her, but she could keep going and most days she wanted to keep going. she went bang! and kept going after that! the people she'd thought would be her community had her enacting her suicide in a baby doll costume every night for years and it did not break her. she DID dream. when louis is allowed to remember this, to remember how fiercely she loved, how she brilliantly she lived, it gives him regard for his own existence. it drives him out of the coffin he'd almost resigned himself to. are we the sum of our worst moments? i didn't know it was a gift!
been playing a lot of sudoku lately…

true....
Making Claudia into a one dimensional lying angry black woman stereotype when she had a cold righteous rage that simmered through all of her injustice is just so disheartening. Her complex relationship with her parental figures was so nuanced where love, respect, disappointment, and resentment merged into a special highlight of the show. A strange rant where she's inexplicably racist and hateful to Louis over the man she compared to a literal tyrant slave owner feels so off. She has the right to be angry at them both but the implication that Louis was the worst person to her serves nothing other than the writer's agenda to discount the beauty of s1 and 2.
