Mafuyu is actually perfect as Akechi. manipulative mother (Shido), nice perfect girl mask (like the Detective Prince), and beneath that she’s cold and blunt and rather rude (like Loki just not aggressive) — and critically that might seem like her ‘true self’ (like how people might think Loki is Akechi’s true self) but it’s really not and they both still need to find it. Mafuyu also literally kind of ‘betrays’ her group by posting songs solo as OWN (ok blackmask). also they both like aquariums. and even their eye thing!

Mizuki also fits really well as Joker, since they’re both mischievous jokesters who are very kind and mature, and also feel kinda distant and like they’re hiding their ‘true self’ from their friends, and hence feel a kinship with Mafuyu/Akechi since they’re both masking. also in 3rd sem where Mafuyu’s mask drops, Mizuki might feel almost envious that Mafuyu can do that and is trying to find her true self

ALSO i feel like they perfectly fit (my version of) fem!shuake. Mafuyu as the Detective Princess puts on a hyperfem perfect girl act to appeal to the patriarchy since she knows gender discrimination is shit and that’s the only way she can be somewhat ‘respected’. Mizuki, like fem!joker would feel like they have to suppress their identity and conform to the standard way of dress to not stand out (though fem!joker would be uncomfortable in her fem uniform, and Mizuki in their masc uniform)

but then maybe An (Shiraishi) could give them her female uniform (the blazer, bow turtleneck, and skirt), which Mizuki gratefully modifies to fit themself and boom they feel much more confidant because they have friends even if it attracts negative attention.

also Mafuyu (who does not want to dress so hyperfem) would be so envious of Mizuki for being able to express themself and for all they have (just like Akechi)

anyway as for the other thieves, my bias for vbs and n25 really show but i do think they fit the roles (and elements too!) well

(based more on their attitudes, roles and circumstances, not necessarily interests and personalities)

Ryuji - Akito (both ace on their sport team until they give it up and it’s ruined, can be hot-headed, same kinda attitude)

Ann - An (she could totally be a model, plus they’re both kind and outgoing plus friendship with Akito/Ryuji that is kinda strained until it gets reformed due to a newcomer’s presence. funny how their names are literally the same — exactly the same kanji in Japanese too)

Yusuke - Toya (his father is basically Madarame without the plagiarism lol, and they’re both introverts)

Makoto - Ena (they both do have the same kinda blunt and hard-working attitude, both feel inadequate ans unable to live up to expectations, but the biggest thing is Ena wanting to take after her father as an artist, but her father knowing the industry is shit and thus (in a bad way, fuck him) trying to dissuade Ena from becoming an artist, just like how Makoto and Sae’s father dies as a police officer, so Sae puts pressure on Makoto and disapproves of their father abandoning them. also lol brown hair with a braid?)

Futaba - Kanade (actually perfect. hikikomori, dead mother, big autism and depression)

Haru - Kohane (definitely the biggest stretch but they both join/are known to their groups last, and they’re sheltered and have similar attitudes though Kohane is way shyer)

Sumi - Tsukasa (feels more like Kasumi because of his personality tbf, but they both have a passion for something due to their sibling which then almost gets lost, plus they both forget an important part of themselves — Tsukasa’s real reason why he wanted to become an actor, and Sumi’s whole fake identity thing. since the root of that is Saki’s hospitalisation (feeling worry but especially guilt and also kinda neglected by his parents, though not intentionally and complicated, which in turn fuels his guilt) Maruki’s actualisation would be Tsukasa thinking ‘i wish Saki was never hospitalised’ (Saki is still alive and well!) which incidentally makes him completely forget why he wanted to become a star in the first place. also he wants to become a star! that’s literally so light element)

i think the royal trio and especially Tsukasa and Mizuki could definitely swap roles, though i love MizuMafu so no, and none of them fit Akechi as well as Mafuyu does
