a/n: happy birthday to my beloved apple pie! here's to many many more birthdays with you mwah <3 would you guys believe me if i said i came up with this idea literally a month ago (i manifested his birthday theme giggles)

Being a Hunter with a pilot boyfriend meant it was damn near impossible to schedule a long vacation. When you had an off day, he was out piloting an international flight. When he had a break, you would be whisked off to remote cities, saving the world one Wanderer at a time.

Naturally, being the absolute genius that you are, you came up with a plan that would guarantee a longer vacation together. As a reward for all the work you've done as of late, the Hunters Association gave you a whole week off, which coincidentally was the same week as Caleb's next break. That way, the two of you would go on the same flight (that he would pilot) to your destination, after which the fun would commence.

Boarding had just finished, and everyone was getting settled in their seats when the overhead intercom crackled to life.

"Good morning, everyone. This is your captain Caleb Xia speaking. One special announcement-"

Your face blanches.

"There is one very important person on board. The love of my life is actually with us, sitting in Seat 6A. Everyone please give them a round of applause for being the most amazing person to ever exist."

You nervously giggle as the cabin erupts in celebration, all the while plotting the least messy way to kill a man who's infatuated with you.

"Am I going to get beaten up after we land? Magic 8-ball says 'Absolutely,' buuuuut it's worth it," he chuckles, and you swear you could ask a deaf person and even they would admit to hearing the love and adoration dripping out of Caleb's voice.

You wait for him by the baggage carousel, and the moment he walks over to you, you give him a strong slap on the arm.

"What the hell was that for? Do you have any idea how embarrassing that was??" You playfully scoff and turn away.

"Now I'm not even allowed to brag about how much I love you?" He kisses you on the top of the head with an obnoxiously loud mwah! "Let's go enjoy our very well-deserved vacation."

Folks, if you don't know who Emi Koyama was, you should. Her website (eminism.org, which is a delightful pun) has a ton of her work entirely for free.

You can read the Transfeminist Manifesto in particular here. Emi considered it a historical document and she wrote a very good self-critique in 2008 (included in the document) on the subject of the Manifesto, white feminism, and the lack of inclusion of trans and genderqueer people who aren't trans women. I highly encourage everyone who wants to involve themselves in transfeminism to read her work, not because it is perfect, but because I do think Emi Koyama's Manifesto represents the best intentions for transfeminism: the desire to challenge cissexism, to take activism seriously and compassionately, and a commitment to being open and honest about where we fall short and how we can do better.

I really appreciate this quote from her, which I hadn't seen before, on the subject of feminism needing to "fit in" trans people:

Cis feminists do not own feminism. We don't need to "fit trans people into feminist theory"; we simply need to challenge cissexism in feminist movements and theories. Trans people do not need to be explained by feminist theory; we need to start from the fact that trans people exist and matter.

And it would be a crime to not mention how hard she fought specifically for women of color, to challenge racism and imperialism (white/western and non-white/non-western) in feminist spaces and in general, as well as her intersex activism, and far more. She had such a drive to contribute to, engage with, and push for more and better feminist discourse.

His birthday is still a few days away, but you’re already ahead of schedule this year. No messy kitchen like last time when you baked him a cake, he ended up cleaning the whole kitchen from flour, cream and burnt sugar with a grin. Instead, you're sitting on the floor of your living room, surrounded by the materials. determined to finish this handmade Caleb doll.

You’re totally concentrating, trying to get the tiny jacket stitched perfectly. You’re too focused that you miss the sound of the front door opening.

"Hey, pips, I'm—"

Caleb stops dead in his tracks. You freeze, a needle gripped in one hand and a half fiinished version of him in the other.

His eyes dart from your panic face down to the miniature doll, and a huge grin across his face. He instantly gets it. He tries to put his expression back to netral, coughing into his hand to hide the chuckle.

"Uh.. is that me?" he asks, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

You quickly shove the doll behind your back, your face burning. "No! You saw nothing! Get out right now and come back later!"

He laughs out loud this time, putting his hands up in surrender. "Alright, alright, I'm leaving. I didn't see a thing," he teases, his eyes wink at you before heading out to give you your space.

You set a nice cake you bought on the table—no flour explosions this time. Next to it, you arrange the finished doll, wrapped in a little box.

Caleb sits down, acting like it’s the biggest mystery in the world. He opens the box, and you watch his face closely.

He gasps, putting on the most dramatic performance. "Oh wow! What is this? A miniature of me?" He looks up at you with wide and exaggerated eyes. "I never could have guessed, pips. How did you ever come up with this?"

You roll your eyes, laughing at how terrible his acting is. "You’re literally the worst liar ever, Caleb."

He drops the act. This time a soft and genuine smile blooms. He picks up the little doll, carefully examining the stitches, his thumb brushing over the tiny jacket). He looks across the table at you, his eyes full of warmth.

"Maybe," he chuckles softly, setting the doll beside his cake. "But I meant it. It really is the best surprise."

“Why my uniform tho” *inspects the tiny jacket* 🧐🍎

“I love uniforms.” 😋

“I can wear them tonight if you want.” 😏🍎

"But who'd have thought the one taking all my treasures would prove dearest of them all?"
