Getting a likeness is so hard. I felt, I did an ok job with Shads & Wyll, and definitely have to redo Gale, but Astarion here put me through the wringer. I think there's still something wrong with his jaw but overall I am ok with him now.

“Did you know that..”

“They get so big (with hand gestures) and they can run so fast..”

AND IF I CRYYYY check-ups would last hours just because zayne probably indulges them when they yap

"Lucian..." Zayne sighs fondly, squeezing gently at the little boy's cheeks. Flashlight in hand and at the ready. "Just for a while, say ahh..."

"And— and then, the birdies—" Lucain wriggles away from Zayne's hold to spread his arms and puff up his cheeks. "go like dis. Dis way and dancey..." he does a little wriggle. "So the other birdies go like them."

"I see," Zayne chuckles and does the smallest, most miniscule little wiggle too. "This way?"

"No, Doter Sayne!" Lucian giggles at the sight. "Like dis!"

He waves his arms more, bobbing his head left and right in a chaotic dance Zayne worries it will make him dizzy. When Zayne just laughs, Lucian pouts at him. "Your turn."

Taken aback, Zayne clears his throat and glances shyly behind him where you watch in smug amusement. "Maybe after your examination."

After clearing the little one's lymph nodes, tonsils, vision, eyes, boogers, and ears, Zayne fulfills his promise and does an even bigger wiggle that sends Lucian into a fit of belly-aching laughter. He clears his lungs then too.

"What do you have there, Kyros?" Zayne asks when you place Kyros on the bed and he hides behind his new stuffie.

"A swof..." he murmurs, eyes shut tight. No matter how many times you promised him he wasn't getting a flu shot today, he just can't seem to relax. So, while Lucian got his check-up, Sylus took him to the hospital's kids' shop and bought him a little friend.

Zayne checks his ears. Easier, since Kyros is frozen to the bone at being here. "Do you know much about the sloth? This is going to be cold, okay. Ready?"

"Mm..." Kyros squeezes his eyes shut impossibly tight when Zayne brings the cold stethoscope up this warm back. "Swofs are slow... like me..."

"You, slow?" Zayne scoffs, listening to his breathing carefully, knowing his history. He recalls chasing him around the examination room the last time he got a flu shot, and he wouldn't exactly call him slow.

"Just when I sweepy." Kyros clarifies, opening his one eye when the coolness disappears on his back. Zayne nods, "Ah."

Kyros sticks his tongue out. "Hwofs ee li'l liluhs eh leehs."

"That means they're omnivores," Zayne tells him, deeming his tonsils clear and healthy. "If they eat plants and small animals— lizards and leaves, right?"

"Yes." Kyros allows Doctor Zayne to nudge his sloth friend away so he can put the now warm stethoscope head to his chest.

"Heart's good and healthy, Kyros."

"My? Hm?" Kyros points to his throat and gasps, referring to his lungs.

"Yes, also your lungs," Zayne says, joyful at that fact too. "Probably due to the swimming."

"Swofs swim good!" Kyros adds the fact happily. "Like me!"

Zayne ends his examination by observing how Kyros's eyes follow the lights his hands make when they carve two icy little animals— a small bird and a baby sloth. One for him, and one for Lucian.

This exam took a bit longer than usual, but it was a welcome break from his toxic schedule to see his godsons and listen to their so very interesting animal facts.

to combat a virus that seems to disproportionately affect evolvers, all eligible individuals have been given a new preventative vaccine. 

almost all of them, anyway.

“come on!” you huff, pushing with all your might. “it won't be that bad!”

“why don't you try again, kitten? you almost moved me an inch that time.” 

this early in the morning, the pharmacy parking lot is mostly empty. but by the time you finally manage to drag sylus inside, you fear they'll already be closed for the day.

you'd gotten your shot weeks ago, the only side effect being a bit of soreness. but every time you asked sylus how his shot went, he always found a way to dodge the question. after days of back-and-forth and a 30-minute interrogation, you’d reached a harrowing conclusion:

sylus was afraid of needles.

“it’s not as odd as you think,” he’d said while you gaped at him. “believe it or not, i value my life. why should i let a stranger skewer me and thank them for it?”
