my mom is friends with this trans woman, who was really sweet and she was super cool, but then i tried to come out after my mom expressed how much she liked her trans friend and how amazing she is. i told my mom about my crippling chest dysphoria and how much i’d love to be called by he/him pronouns and my preferred name. i told her about how i’ve always felt this way and i’ve known since eighth grade.

well the thing is, her friend is a transmed.

my mom is an uninformed person on trans issues, because she didn’t really care about them until recently. she took resources from her transmed friend and it ruined my life. she went off about how i’m not really trans because i didn’t come out sooner, i have piercings, my hair is always a crazy color, i still like girly things, and my glasses are weird. she kept yelling about how i didn’t have dysphoria before, so i obviously have the wrong definition. she told me if i was trans it would’ve been diagnosed by my therapist already, and it was just a cult bandwagon phase. i was locked away from the outside world for a month.

when my next year of high school rolled around, i was out as trans. my partner provided me with a binder and all was well. i came out to all my peers at the beginning and about halfway through the school year to my teachers. it was quiet, under the table. i told them my mom didn’t know and under our school guidelines, they were not allowed to tell my mom that sort of thing. well, one of my teachers ended up being lgbtphobic and i didn’t know, and announced to the class that she didn’t “agree with the lifestyle” and that “gay marriage isn’t what god wanted.” my mom got an email that day about me being out as trans at school. i wonder who could’ve sent it?

my mom blew up. she was sending me treat after threat because i was a trender, all i did was lie for attention, that i chose to be trans because it was trendy and that real trans people wouldn’t flaunt their transness. of course, she got these resources from her transmed friend. she pulled me out of public school and cut my contact with the outside world for three whole months. i didn’t get back into school until february.

We got super gatekeepy and “you must be THIS GAY to ride this identity” and we complained at length about it being “trendy” and how girls only did it to be “cool” and to get attention.

And so among other things I know one person I love is, for example, only JUST getting to have her FIRST relationship ever with a woman at slightly older than me because this shit got into her head and she didn’t think she was “allowed”.

So watching people turn the same bullshit on even more vulnerable kids?

Here are some more “ambiguous” phrases which courts have found DO NOT invoke your right to a lawyer:

“Maybe I should speak to my lawyer first.”

“I might like a lawyer.”

“I think I should have a lawyer present for this.”

“Could I speak to my lawyer first?”

“How long until my lawyer gets here?”

And perhaps most egregiously – “Get me a lawyer, dawg – ‘cause this is not what’s up.”

Here are the magic phrases which you need to know if you want to invoke your Miranda rights:

1) “Am I free to leave?”

It’s worth asking this even if the answer is obvious. Even if the officer does not let you leave, by forcing them to admit that you are not free to leave, you are creating a record which your attorney can use to prove that you were in custody. Miranda rights only apply if the interrogation is custodial, meaning that police officers will frequently claim that their suspects were “not in custody” to get around their Miranda rights.

2) “I am invoking my right to remain silent.”

Simply staying silent will not invoke your right to remain silent. As absurd as this is, you must explicitly say that you are invoking your right to remain silent in order to invoke that right.

3) “I am invoking my right to an attorney.”

As stated above, you must be not only clear and unambiguous, but clear and legally unambiguous. Don’t get cute. Don’t get sassy. And on the flip side, don’t get intimidated and use verbal ticks to minimize your request. Say the line with those words exactly – say it clearly, and say it once, and then say nothing else.

Because even after you’ve done all this, the police can still try to get you to talk. They’re not supposed to interrogate you, but they’re allowed to make casual conversation, and if that conversation just happens to circle back around to the thing they wanted to question you about, well, that’s really your fault for talking after you said you wouldn’t, isn’t it? Can’t possibly fault the poor officers when you initiated – if you really wanted to have your rights respected, you wouldn’t have talked to them in the first place.

The police know this, and they will mercilessly exploit this loophole. So, once you’ve successfully invoked your Miranda rights, any and all conversation you have with police officers will put those rights back into jeopardy. 

Putting it all together:

Ask: “Am I free to leave?”

If they say no, say: “I am invoking my right to remain silent and I am invoking my right to an attorney.”

And then shut up and do not say a single thing to them for any reason whatsoever until you have actually spoken to an attorney. Yes, even if it takes hours. Yes, even if they start talking to you about something else.

Finally, a very important disclaimer:

all the trans boys and nb people who are going to get “girl presents”

all the trans girls and nb people who are going to get “boy presents”

all the lesbians who are going to be asked why they don’t have a boyfriend

all the gay boys who are going to be asked why they don’t have a girlfriend

all the closeted kids who are going to have to listen to their families being homophobic and transphobic

all the lgbt kids who have to spend time with their abusive family members

all the lgbt kids whose families disowned them

all the trans boys and nb people who are going to have to dress feminine for their families

all the trans girls and nb people who are going to have to dress masculine for their families

I am afraid that the fandom is turning into a community that can’t just tag stuff so people can avoid being triggered. I am afraid of the idea of people Cancelling a Side because of one video. 

I am afraid of the fandom being unable to see the Sides as more than Light or Dark, when all of them are complex. All of them can screw up. Every single one of them can make good points and should be listened to as a part of Thomas. 

Yeah yeah, this sounds like sympathetic deceit talk, and I’ll tag that so if ppl don’t want to see it, they don’t have to. But I mean this for literally every side. We almost Cancelled Roman between Accepting Anxiety p 1&2. There’s a recent slew of backlash against Patton for how he acted in the most recent video (even though he apologized at the end). And again, to state the obvious, Deceit hadn’t even really been given a chance to be fleshed out before he was being cast as evil and irredeemable! And when he stated his purpose in this video, a lot of fanders did exactly what the sides did: equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears and singing loudly. 

When I got into this fandom I was mainly welcomed, but the moment I cosplayed I started getting hate for making Virgil look emo and making Patton smiley and reprimanding. I had to take down some cosplays I did because I got so much hate.

Y’all need to know that everyone has their own take on characters and no character will ever be Perfectly Perfect™️ and Flawless™️.

3. breaks for most establishments are a mere 30 minutes for an 8-hour shift; at my first job, for a 6-hour shift, your break would only be 15 minutes and any longer shift would only get 30. studies say people are more productive if for every hour you work, you get a 15-minute break - meaning, for an 8-hour shift, you’d need an hour-long break, and so on and so forth.

COPPA’s new law basically makes it so that every single video and channel needs to be listed as whether it is kid friendly or not. If your channel is kid friendly, you will not be recommended on Youtube, you will not be able to have personalised ads, you will not be able to have any ad revenue of any kind. 

So this seems easy? Just list your videos and channel as mature content that’s for 18+? WRONG! Somehow (not sure how yet, not even they are sure how this will happen) COPPA and the FTC will search for anything in your content that is deemed ‘kid friendly’. If you read their definition of what is deemed as kid friendly (basically: anything colourful, any ‘kid words’ like “cool” “awesome” or “whatever”, anything cartoony (animation falls into that topic no matter what)), you will realise that this is VERY vague and can and WILL cause problems when this is implemented. Not only that; if you are found out to have kid friendly content that isn’t marked as such, you will be fined up to $42,000. Obviously, for smaller Youtubers, this is a very big problem that could end their youtube career in a heartbeat. 

This is all being done as action to protect children’s viewing limits online as well as protect data that’s used in the child’s activity online. (In my mind this is basically saying: parents have defaulted to pushing a screen into their child’s face to shut them up so much so, that now everything posted online is deemed a threat to children, and instead of parents bettering themselves, they’re asking the government to babysit for them.) This was something that has been coming for a long while and previous attempts to protect children’s activities online have been put in place, but now COPPA have had enough and are putting this not only into Youtube policies, but into LAW. But all of this is being made under enormous misunderstandings of how internet culture works. I’m sure you can think of so many content creators on Youtube that ride the line between being kid friendly and mature content; now it’s so precise that someone who has colourful lighting in their web cam set up are now deemed ‘kid friendly’, even if they’re saying “fuck” uncensored out loud.  What makes it worse is Youtube’s attempts to make videos kid friendly since its demonetisation policies started will most likely still be in place: WHICH CONTRADICTS THE COPPA LAW. Any videos a Youtuber has done to monetise their videos (cut out swearing, not done copyrighted or mature content activities) will now fall into COPPA’s ‘kid friendly’ laws. So now we’re having to shift from being monetisation friendly to make money, to being as adult and not-kid friendly as possible in order to get money, but you’ll still get demonetised by Youtube. Creators will have to decided whether to get fucked by COPPA or Youtube’s old system. 

This is a law that needs to be refined and altered. Otherwise this could be the end of Youtube. And this may not stop at Youtube… 

But what’s important to highlight here is this is NOT something to 100% blame Youtube over. They were fucked by COPPA and the FTC: BLAME COPPA AND THE FTC OVER THIS, NOT YOUTUBE. 

in the link you can comment on the policy. Please comment on it and outline that this policy is hugely vague and can either damage Youtube content creators and Youtube as a platform, or will be abused and will not work in the end. This needs to be either gotten rid of or fixed, FAST.

That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.
