I've been thinking a lot about why I'm so put off by the Ted Lasso trailers for the new season. Obviously I can't base my feelings about an entire season on the trailers, but at the same time, they're using it to draw people in, so whatever.
It feels very strange to have gotten rid of all the people of color! All the players, the other coach, maybe even the therapist. I always thought it was gross how they treated Hannah Waddingham's character having a relationship with a 21-year old (black) player on the team she owned as some white feminist wish fulfillment, which is about when I started turning against the show, and now it seems that they are creating feel-good vibes exclusively through white characters. Even what we've seen of the new players suggests as much. It kind of feels very 2026 in that way, just a complete reversal of anything that some weirdo might say "smacks of DEI."
