HAH nooo i don't think he'd mind either way if you're the domestic type or not! i have yet to finish the original silent hill 2, so take this with a large grain of salt, but i think showing any language of attachment and care to james is enough to get him head-over-heels. he strikes me as the type to get sentimental over hand-crafted or symbolic gifts, and maybe even praising/complimenting him over the most smallest, most insignificant things ever. he's such a sad, wet heeler dog to me, but perhaps in the best way, i think.

some observations and rundown from my on-going, first-time, silent hill 2 playthrough (spoilers for sh1 + sh2)

i would totally have beef with a kid too, james.

i completely missed pyramid head in the gated hall of the apartments even though i heard it on the radio before i watched the fmv of it getting slurty with one of the monsters (horrific cutscene btw why does this shit happen twice)

something is definitely up with maria and idk if it's a lisa (sh1) callback to her actually being dead and being some alter ego to mary but i'm 100% going to assume my run / ending is fucked because i didn't do so hot preventing her getting wounded. idek how i didn't get a game over yet with her taking hits oops.

...also is maria actually supposed to die by pyramid head? the walkthrough i'm using just says "a cutscene will play here". veeerrry reassuring, man. because if this isn't supposed to happen on a good note, my ending is DEFINITELY fucked. but if so i feel bad because yeah, james, way to fucking go. you COULD have done something (i'm coping).

fucked up listening to the "trick or treat" broadcast in the elevator by accidentally pressing start to skip it. fml. had to revert my save allll the way back. don't ever hand me the controller guys i never know what i'm doing.

after all that in the hospital, james makes a small observation: "or is this your way of taking..." and i'm going to guess this guy means bloody revenge with how maria accused him of not caring about her (and possibly his wife) in the otherworld segment. i knew this guy was a complete loser.

retroachievements unfortunately spoiled a few things for me already but i care much more about the journey to the outcome rather than the outcome itself.

what the hell is with abigail and eddie and even laura man WHO EVEN ARE YOU PEOPLE.

no actually, laura is connected to mary / maria somehow i just don't know how yet.

omw to the historical society as of writing so i think i'm halfway through? runtime is over 5 hours which definitely means i'm not getting a good 10-star rank at the end LMAO.

I know it is an odd request, but do you know what may be going on with the frog in this image? The earliest date I can find of it being posted online is 2016, though it may be older.

The angle of the forelimbs looks biologically correct, so I am confident this is a real photo and not a photoshop job. A popular answer is that it is an ovigerous female, but that is obviously wrong. My guess would be that this frog has a myostatin mutation, causing enormous growth of its muscles. That is what causes muscular hypertrophy in cattle.

you have no idea how much writers treasure every single comment we get. you have no idea how big an impact you can have. sometimes, just sometimes, your one "insignificant" comment changes everything

How to Write When You Don't Feel Like Yourself

There are going to be days (or weeks, or months) where you sit down to write and feel... disconnected. From your voice, from your characters, from your ideas. Like the person who used to write your stories just packed up and left.

They didn't. They're just tired. Here's how to keep writing anyway:

Lower the bar (Until it's on the floor) You are not here to write something brilliant. You are here to write something. A paragraph. A sentence. A single line of dialogue. Movement matters way more than quality.

Write around the story Don't force it. If you can't write the scene, try: ⋆ A character ramble / journal entry ⋆ A conversation that won't be included in the final draft ⋆ A list of things the character would never admit out loud ⋆ A messy summary of what should happen Engage with the story from a different angle.

Borrow a voice until yours comes back No, not with AI. Read something that feels close to what you want to write, or watch a scene that captures the tone, then write immediately after. Not to copy, to reignite your instincts.

Write the emotion, not the plot. What is your character feeling in this moment? What are they afraid of? What do they want but won't say? What's being kept from them? The emotion leads, the plot catches up later.

Stop trying to "feel like a writer" first. You don't write when you feel like a writer. You feel like a writer because you write.

You are still a writer, even on the days it feels distant. Especially then.
