As soon as sheād read the note Blake immediately pocketed it, making sure nobody else would see it. The rose however, along with the other one sheād received reminded firmly in her hand. Just as he knew there would be, there was in fact a smile on her face. Brown eyes searched for his in the crowd, finding him almost immediately. She smiled, a small simple thing that nobody around them would have noticed but that said.Ā āThank you, happy valentineās dayā

"Okay I need to ask you something and I need you to be real and honest and truthful with me. Can you do that?" Blake asked, a beer in hand as she dramatically laid across her swinging chair. It was right in the window, the perfect place to contemplate life. "Do you think I'm an idiot?"

Blake wouldn't survive without coffee, especially not on days when they had work to do. On those day the medium very quickly upgraded to a large. She was waiting in line, internally judging someone who was taking far too long to order when she heard a familiar voice behind her who made her spin on her heel. "Oh it's you again. We have got to stop meeting in coffee related situations. "

There were very few people Blake cared about enough to check on, even less who's door she would turn up at to make sure they were okay. Jason was a rare exception although she'd never tell him that. "Hey, I'm guessing you and the princess made it out okay the other night? I know your ass is like the last person I have to worry about but I still do okay? You're not allowed to die on me yet Macavoy. I still have so many more years of annoying you left to do."

"Well when you put it like that..." Dylan remarks, trailing off for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, pretty much. I guess I could follow you instead if you've got a thing for bein' in charge." The mischievous glint in his eyes says that he'd prefer the view as well, but keeps that thought to himself for the time being. "Well, I'm willin' to negotiate. Set your terms."
"I wouldn't say I have a thing for being in charge." Blake muttered although the grin on her face showed there was more to it than that. She had always found it very satisfying telling men what to do, making them shut up and listen. "I'll buy your fancy coffee and carry it around for you just as soon as you win me the biggest most disgustingly girlie bear at this thing."

Biancaās smirk was slow, deliberateāthe kind that suggested she was in on a joke no one else had quite caught onto yet. Her dark eyes flicked over Blake, reading between the lines, picking up on the restless energy that lingered just beneath the surface.
āWell,ā she drawled, casually leaning her hip against the counter, āitās simple, really. You take the shot, and if you hit the target, fate rewards you with undying love and a lifetime of heart-shaped pancakes.ā A beat. āMiss, and youāre doomed to tragic longing and bad Tinder dates forever.ā
She let the words settle, chin tilting slightly. āHigh stakes for a kids' game, wouldnāt you say?ā
With an easy flick of her wrist, she slid a bow across the counter, her smirk widening just a touch. āBut hey, if true loveās not what youāre afterā¦ā Her voice dipped, smooth and knowing. āI hear thereās always the consolation prize.ā
"I'm not sure that's how that works." Blake muttered, rolling her eyes. Her love life was tragic enough, her ability to hit a target wasn't going to do much to make that worse. It likely wasn't even possible for it to became worse than it was. The only person she'd decided to do any of the games was that she wanted to win some kind of soft fluffy thing. Blake picked up the bow, aiming it at the target. After how the conversation was going she had no desire to spend longer than needed standing there. "And what's the consolation prize? Is that at least something tangible?"
Derin gave a shrug, "Suit yourself, I think you'd make a hot unicorn." She said with a smile. Blake and her weren't extremely close, or close at all really, but she was a society member and one Derin would have to work with as would Reyan. "Hearts will do though, red or pink?"
āIs there even such thing as a hot unicorn?ā When Blake thought of unicorns she thought of sparkles, of glitter, of something children would like. None of those things sounded overly like her. āI think Iāll go with red.ā She decided instantly not wanting to prolong the conversation any longer than they needed to.
Location: The Wheel of Love Status: Closed @blakeharrow
Reyan was trying to stay busy at the carnival. He didn't enjoy things like it often, but it was an excuse to be out and show that the events over the holidays had no lasting effects. He smiled as he waited in the short line for the booth Blake was working at. "What's the best prize on the wheel? I want to make sure I aim for the right spot."
"Well unfortunately for everyone here I'm not on the wheel but we do have some overly large cuddly toys, couples massage vouchers, weekend getaways, wine tasting, some fancy chocolates. Really it depends on what catches your eye. If you ask me the weekend getaway sounds the best." It also just sounded incredibly nice to get away from the city for a few days. Maybe Blake would try and win that herself after her shift.
"Well I'm glad you're takin' responsibility for your actions," Dylan replies in a serious tone, maintaining a straight face for as long as he can manage before it finally cracks open into a smirk. "How about you buy me one of those real fuckin' girly Valentine's Day drinks, and then hold it so no one knows it's actually mine. That a good deal?"
"Oh so not only do you want me to buy you a drink you also want me to follow you around to pretend it's mine? I feel like you're getting the better end of the deal here." Even though she protested she knew she'd probably end up agreeing, It wasn't like Blake had anything better to do.
Harper had been silently observing the wheel, finding the whole concept rather amusing. She didn't think she was going to win anything, as she firmly believed those wheels were somehow rigged. She wouldn't be surprised. Harper kept that thought to herself, however. "Oh, no. Heard ya loud and clear," she insisted. "Spin the wheel, possibly get a prize, yada, yada, yada." Head shook slightly before she offered Blake a shrug of the shoulders. "No idea. I find that it's better to not ask questions."
āOkay good, sometimes people just donāt like listening and then they want to ask like itās my fault they donāt know how to listen to and follow a simple instruction.ā It had already happened multiple times that shift. āThatās fair enough.ā If there was one thing worth asking questions it was probably the reason why so many of New Yorkās richest and most criminal were working a valentines carnival but if nobody else cared Blake wouldnāt be the one to ask questions.

location: archery challenge open starter ( @sinnerssquarestart )
The Cupidās Archery Challenge was all flashing neon hearts and cheaply painted bows, the air thick with the scent of kettle corn and desperation. Bianca shouldāve been paying attentionāshouldāve been watching the targets, the contestants, the ridiculous pageantry of it allābut her gaze was locked onto the dim glow of her phone screen.
The image stared back at her, frozen in time. Her husbandālate husbandāgrinning at her from across a candlelit table, a glass of wine raised in a mock toast. Their last Valentineās Day together. A lifetime ago.
Her jaw tensed, the moment slipping through her fingers before she killed the screen with a quick tap. By the time she looked up, the carefully curated mask was back in place, lips pulling into something that resembled a smile.
"Care to shoot your shot?" she said, voice dry as she turned to the newcomer. A pause, then a smirkāthis one just a touch more real. "Maybe Cupidās arrow will find your true love." A beat. A slow, knowing tilt of her head.
"āOr a lover for the night."
Blake was attempting to distract herself from the occasion, from the man who was so close and yet always so far away. The men her eyes kept wondering to in the crowd, like they were forever magnetised to his location. It was starting to became a real pain in the ass and more importantly, she was worried someone could notice. It was either continue to stay occupied playing stupid games or end up going over to him or doing something stupid. The games happened to be the far more sensible option. "Sure why not? Tell me more about how this kids game is going to help me find my one true love?"
