i provided DVD commentary to a couple friends breaking down all my clip choices and they enjoyed it, so i thought i’d post it on tumblr too in case anyone is interested! :D under a read more because it is Long
- “you’re august, strawberry moonlit awe” pretty self-explanatory, just will looking gorgeous af lol
- “the planets turn just to hear you talk” HAD to be an orbiting clip, i’m just lucky one ended up in the broadcast recently bc we don’t usually get to see it there (since it often happens in practice and before a period starts). even though mack is the yapper, i love how it’s usually mack who ends up spinning in a circle around will, very fitting for this lyric
- “you love like a poet / harmonizing with my energy” poetry and harmony = their NARRATIVES. this clip in particular is the last goal of mack’s first nhl career hat trick, of which will got the assist on ALL THREE GOALS
- “like we’re playing in time and in key” just an awesome passing sequence showing how in sync they are
- “it's funny how we move through space and time” two goals i think literally two days apart which were nearly identical, will doing a no-look backhand pass to mack who one-times it in. meant to convey how they’re gonna be teammates and playing amazing hockey together for a long time :)
- “sometimes i think i’ve known you all my life” just a couple clips showing their bond/friendship and how close they already are to each other after a relatively short amount of time 🥰
- “i’m certain by design, inherently you feel divine” self-explanatory, once again will looking gorgeous and then mack giving him a once-over in the last clip 🙂↕️ (but also “by design” - will putting on his gear which is very sexy in my humble opinion; “inherently” - will stripped down and looking naturally gorgeous)
- “it's heaven when you hold me in your heart” also self-explanatory, will’s down bad heart eyes when he talks about mack. he is so soft 🥺
- “you paint me in your sky like modern art” will talking about mack in another interview while looking so damn soft
- “i feel like i could fly when looking in your angel eyes” self-explanatory lol
- “it’s heaven, it’s heaven” i think also self-explanatory haha, clips of them talking real close and some more lowkey cellies. i love the one where mack is looking for will to join the celly. everything is more meaningful when will is there to share the moment with him!
- “you’re heaven” for this one, i wanted it to stand out/be a bit different from the previous ones. i thinkkk this is from mack’s 100th point of the season?? either way will looks so soft and proud of mack and i liked that this one focuses exclusively on will looking at mack, because this video is ultimately mack’s pov
- and then the last “it’s heaven” - their weirdass smelling salts ritual. the EXPRESSION on mack’s face 💀 i shan’t speak further
- “it all comes out eventually” feelings coming out, somehow they keep getting more obvious about how obsessed they are with each other?? mack wanting/needing will by his side?? i also just like that “comes” lands on mack cocking his head to gesture will over lmao
- instrumental - this part is pretty much filler, but i chose a pass and goal for each of them to highlight more of their hockey chemistry since the last sequence was non-gameplay moments
- “running away through the rain makes your socks wet, switching your heart and your brain makes you feel uncertain if thoughts were the same even back then, i feel ashamed” will getting hurt, mack abandoning all rationality (switching his heart and his brain) and fighting the guy who hurt him, then sitting in the penalty box afterwards, followed by a clip from the postgame interview. important to note that mack did not at all look like someone who just made a historic comeback to win a game of hockey. his voice literally wavers giving some answers. he is on the verge of tears (there’s also a vid of the team coming back in the locker room and everyone is pumped and happy but Not mack). ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE that semi-recently, mack said that was his favorite game of the season so far. why??? BECAUSE THAT’S THE GAME THAT LED TO HIM REALIZING/CONFESSING HIS FEELINGS FOR WILL!!!! (headcanon obv but EVERYTHING ELSE IS TRUE) (“if thoughts were the same even back then”)
- the other two “i feel ashamed” Disappointment from bad games
- “running away through the rain with you darling” will literally so excited (his hops!!) but makes a point to wait for mack to come off the bench so they can celebrate TOGETHER
- “makes me feel safe like you saved me from drowning” clip is from willmack’s rookie lap when they debuted in the nhl together last season. mack’s dad impressing on mack that it’s so important that he play with joy. will being mack’s joy and saving him from the pressures of being first overall and expected to save the sharks franchise by being with him every step of the way (the “Enter Smith, 20” of it all!!!!) (alternatively i would have loved to use their warmies passing ritual but i really wanted to use official footage without diving into my own botg videos lol)
- “i’m not ashamed…” just them being unabashed in their affection for each other in their cellies :) the last one is particularly hilarious to me because it’s KURASHEV’S GOAL, but will basically ignores him and goes STRAIGHT to mack
- “i wanna kiss you when everyone’s watching” what can i say? it HAD to be this one. still their cutest celly ever imo
- closing out with a couple more clips of them. i thought them skating off to the bench/off the ice (i think it’s at the end of the period but i don’t remember) looked good as a closing clip instead of just another bench moment, and then i just think mack getting pushed into will is sooooo cute. very romcom of them. they’re in love, your honor!!!
