now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:
in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.
and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:

-at first when I started plotting out the story, I planned to have Grim killed near the beginning, either by Reader herself (she comes from a world filled with monsters that blindly kill humans. would not be sympathetic to Grim breathing fire in the first encounter-) or via Crowley being implied to have gone through with his threat to turn Grim into food. (in the prologue where he said "I shall even spare it from being served as dinner")
-later though, I wanted Grim's death more intertwined in the story. I'd have him be away from mc more than in the original, going with Idia. I was going to go with that theory where Grim is a phantom (remember how in book 6 they said Grim isn't just some direbeast based on tests? and how it was said some phantoms mimick direbeasts to hide? how blot, which was supposed to damage all living and even some nonliving things not only didn't harm him but he actively *ate* it and felt quite good about it?), a very specific phantom too but that's spoilers territory ;3
He would still be killed by the Reader, but it would be after they established some rapport. And she wouldn't have meant to do it - no, she would kill him trying to save him. A Guide's power is one that gets rid of byproducts of supernatural power usage, or in Twisted terms she would erase blot. The thing that makes up phantoms, and consequently, a large part of Grim. It would be when he starts acting weird after consuming so much blot - she'd think he got somehow poisoned by it, and try to cleanse him with her power, only to kill him instead by getting rid of all the blot in him, even the parts that held him together- (she'd pass out during it, so his actual death would just be implied off-screen). This would come later as a plot point but again, possible spoilers even now when he remains alive.

Imagine that yuu/reader asks Crowley to open up an art exhibition (for like a little extra thaumarks or somethingā¦) and he thinks itās a splendid idea!

Oh also content warning so tw: yandere au, mentions of violence (it's twst horror au and everything is based on horror movies and slashers/killers so some mentions of violence is to be expected), ooc to some degree (it's a yandere horror au so like at least two filters that make em act different), reader is a ghost now and the guys don't take it well. If the reader in Horrorland died there would be two main things that happen. Firstly, there's gonna be mass chaos before they discover that earth Yuu has become a ghost and secondly once they realize earth reader became a ghost there gonna be more mass chaos as they recover from the emotional roller coaster and immediately fight to capture earth readers ghost.
Rest goes under cut cause it got long lol
A) if their death was caused by someone or something, there would be hell to pay. A slaughter really because in their rage, despair and grief they would lash out at everyone in the vicinity. Venting out their misery and anger on everyone and everything nearby.
If it's a slasher, perhaps Earth Yuu ran into a slasher that didn't know they were off limits or perhaps accidentally summoned one by setting off a horror trope (the chance of Earth Yuu being killed by Horrorland trope based phenomenon is low but not zero, they just aren't guaranteed death and aren't as likely to induce the insatiable urge to kill in most Killers but that doesn't stop a slasher's knife if they decide to kill out of simple habit), then that slasher will be tortured and killed or simply eaten immediately and then Earth Readers corpse will be guarded and fussed over initially. Some slashers who don't know Earth Yuu is off limits may also purposely target them simply because they seem to have the top Killers attention and for many killers in Horrorland, stealing another's target earns bragging rights and gives them a way to show off or one up another. Basically an ignorant killer might target Earth Yuu in the mistaken belief that they are being given attention because they're a favored target or prey item of a higher up and that killer would want to one up others and show off by looking Earth Reader.
In reaction to this, all would kill them for this idiotic mistake.
Some might torture the poor sap, using them to vent their grief, rage and despair by making sure your murderer feels agony like no other for this tragedy before letting them die slowly of their injuries.
-Vil can't stand to suffer a loss ordinarily, but this is a whole other level and he will be using them for poison and curse experiments. Vil will be putting them through some body horror, resident evil levels of torture until they're begging for death. He's pissed and miserable and openly sobbing, he feels so guilty that he wasn't there to protect you and wishes he had acted faster and taken you to his abode sooner. Even as he's torturing the wretched sod that killed his angel, Vil is thinking on how to preserve your corpse to keep your beauty from fading from memory. You'll be his perfectly kept rose, frozen in time though your beauty will never be it's utmost without that life burning within.
- Azul and Jade are inconsolable and take out their guilt and rage on the sap by inflicting every curse and sushi prep technique they make. The guy will barely even be recognizable through somehow still just barely alive, heart and lungs and ears and brain intact at minimum if only so they can feel every injury and hear every insult. They dump the still barely breathing flayed body to Floyd to maim and kill before all three turn to your corpse. Jade and Azul contemplate how to best preserve your body but also if there are ways to bring you back properly, it IS horrorland after all so bringing ppl back from the dead is very very possible though all three are not above simply eating your body as their attempt to keep you to themselves so no others can have you and so that you can never be taken from them again.
-cater, trey, and Riddle would also torture the transgressor for their crime of harming what was theirs. Not only harming, but in killing you they have taken you from them. An unforgivable crime. A thief most deserving of their agonizing punishment. Riddle goes first and makes a big show of their trial. It's bloody and every insult and attributed crime is etched into them before they receive their sentence. Cater goes next and makes the verdict and sentence a spectacle, snide comments over curdled screams as he methodically makes sure every cut and strike is as painful as possible. Trey is last and takes out his misery and rage on them by going for the teeth, as a baker and someone who values teeth it is the cruelest thing to Trey to render someone toothless- unable to eat to kill and more- and so that is what he does.
-if jamil or Leona or Ruggie get to them first then they will put your murderer through hell as well. They already feel they are on the losing end of things and your death at the hands of this chud enrages them like nothing else. Guilt at not being there to fend them off fuels this rage, and they know that the despair will come later and anger holds it off so they lean into putting your attacker through hell.
Others can't stand the fact that your killer is alive while you're so dead and so cold. It's wrong, it's cruel, it's unfair and so they kill the murderer immediately. This group feels that no amount of torture can make your attacker truly pay and keeping them alive for any longer when your own life was cut so short feels like a slap in the face, this group thinks it's cruelly unfair and unjust for your murderer to live and to be breathing when your corpse lays at their feet. How dare they be alive when you are dead, it's a disservice to you and how this groups wanted to protect you, it's an injustice and it will be corrected with your killer's immediate death. They will guard your corpse or attempt to bring you back. Your death is a wrong that must be righted, corrected.
-the ones that fit the above are those like Deuce, Jack, Ace, Sebek, Lilia, Malleus, Silver, kalim (if kalim finds your killer first, then he will kill them immediately unlike jamil who would draw it out), epel, idia and Rook
All of them would vent their despair on their surroundings, killing swaths of campers and also hunting down any unaffiliated killers due to the association of your death being caused by common no name murderers. Many also become filled with guilt for not being there, anger at their rivals for not being there (and proving they also aren't true in their affection) and starting inter-faction drama.
If it's a camper that killed Earth reader then it's the same reaction but more mass murders and they tend to ignore fellow killers unless they are in the vicinity, in which case those killers become collateral. Since no name murderers are unrelated to your death in this scenario, they aren't actively hunting them down.
Now all this is like before Earth Yuu's ghost is found. Maybe it takes a bit to form a spiritual body, maybe they just didn't notice in their grief driven rampage or whatever but initially the guys don't notice Reader's ghost. BUT!! When folks realize Earth Reader's ghostly form still walks their plane, it kicks off part 2 of the chaos.
Now, horrorland is familiar with ghosts. While many are violent and dangerous, there are just as many that are helpful and can help warn or guide Heroes Survivors and Non-Killers. So again, there's plenty of ghosts and a rather wide range of types and a variety of views on them. It's not unheard of for slashers to lose their prey because of a helpful ghost and it's not uncommon for a ghost to be the cause of a non killers demise. Since everyone is aware of ghosts to some degree, there's also a wide variety of ways in dealing with them and interacting with them- with many being based on horror movie tropes. Ghosts can be captured into objects or tethered to items to carry and use (either as guides or for rituals), and ghosts can also be interacted with or even chained down with blessed items or magic items. Many many ways to capture or interact with ghosts, some ppl even attach them to their own soul for certain rituals or as a way to lock the ghost away. All of these methods that can be used on a darling beloved ghost, a loved one that's passed on ... Once the Horrorland Guys find out that their darling is still accessible to them, even if they're a ghost, then it becomes a race to be the one to have them whether catching ghost yuu into an item to keep safe, tying their souls together, tethering them to their side.
The thing is that due to the sudden terror that they had lost you forever, plus the guilt of not being at your side and thus losing you plus the fact all these emotions are very raw and very recent, they are going to be desperate to "correct" their past behavior and habits. They will not be giving you any breathing room ever now, they lost you the moment you had alone time, plus clearly you can't be trusted to take care of yourself so you have to be by their side for your own good as well. Their paranoia that others may take you away from them has also low-key been confirmed because someone did take you away (by killing you) and now they're all terrified you can be taken away from them again either physically, romantically or some other way. Basically you have hyper desperate yanderes who now have a darling who can be easily taken into an item and carried around in whatever haunted jewel or artefact they deam worthy of you.
Becoming a ghost doesn't give Earth Yuu any freedom, if anything it makes it even easier to simply be taken away since they can now get captured into a cursed artefact like using a pokeball to catch a Pokemon.
Some are more partial to cursed jewelry or transportable accessories that can capture spirits.
-vil, cater, Lilia, silver, kalim, jamil, Azul
Vil would love it if he could not only have you near at all times but also quite literally have you as his precious gem. Pairing the jewel that keeps your spirit tethered to him with various outfits and such. He likes chokers lately, because he can feel your presence and heart directly at his neck and above his heart. A constant reminder of you, that you're safe, that you are by his side and won't (can't) leave him
Cater just loves that you are always together now, always there to listen to and talk to, always there and never going to (never able to) abandon him. Your spirit is tethered to an enchanted woven ribbon, one he uses for many things. From his hair, to his bracelet, to a choker.
Lilia keeps your ghost tied to an earring he never takes off. It's close to him and he can always sense your presence, feel your pulse by his ear. It also serves as an assurance, you can't be taken from him if you are by his ear. No one would be able to sneak up to you, not with you so close to his watchful eyes and keen ears. If someone were to take the earring you now haunt, they'd have to take his head with it.
Silver keeps you as a choker, locked around his neck. It's his reminder that he is your knight, your guard, your protector, your loyal companion (your loyal dog). His reasoning for a choker at his throat is similar to Lilia's, it is a way to always be keenly aware of your presence and there's no possibility of someone sneaking up on you.
Kalim has always been fond of jewels and treasures and it is only fitting that his most treasured person-now ghost- also becomes his most precious gem. He keeps your spirit trapped in a ring, where he can always have you at hand and always admire you on his fingers. He tends to fidget with the ring, rubbing his thumb over it, enjoying the constant reminder that you are tied to him and aren't going to leave (you can't leave now) and that no harm can come to you. He wears the haunted ring on his wedding finger. In kalim's mind you are married to him now since he has given you a ring that he now wears so like you basically totally exchanged rings plus you now live with him like a couple and you two will spend the rest of your lives together. So to him, you're totally married together now :D (Nevermind that the ring is what keeps your spirit close to him, you never actually gave him a ring and the whole being dead thing, y'know captured ghost kept on his hand).
Honestly jamil and azul have similar reasons to keep you as a bejeweled earring and it's that A) looks stunning which is what you deserve and B) you're close by and no one can steal you when you're so close to his face. They both have a habit of caressing the earring they keep you in. It's not enough to feel your presence and ghostly heart beat, they take comfort in caressing the warm haunted accessory because it's a reminder that you are by their side. You can't leave them, you're theirs now.
Ghosts in Horrorland can be trapped into objects and containers. This group uses this method because they don't trust themselves not to get into trouble and it would be far easier to tend to you and keep you safe if you can't leave but can be kept hidden and safe.
-Jade, Ruggie, Deuce, Ace, Riddle, Sebek, trey, Jack
Jade keeps your ghost in a cursed terrarium he guards jealously and viciously. You will be taken care of, your spirit tended to lovingly, you will never be harmed again. It soothes him, to have a personal hand in your care, to be wholly relied on. Your comfort, your pain, your joy, your boredom, all of it lies in his hands. It also assuages his guilt, guilt that you ever came to harm in the first place, guilt that his mate ever died at all. His precious darling... He keeps your spirit tethered to this terrarium and tends to it in a manner reminiscent of worship, this isn't like you had some simple trip or mistake that he can tease you for nor a prank from him. You died, you could have been lost to the afterlife forever if he hadn't found your ghost roaming the grounds in time. Jade shudders at the idea of such a permanent loss, clearly he must adapt his habits and methods to ensure nothing like it happens again
-Ruggie knows full well that there are many with more resources, more power, more influence than him. He cannot guarantee that he would be able to keep an item on hand safe and protected with only his own strength and speed. No, he relies on cunning and strategy. He knows how to hide his kills, hide extra food and sneak around. He captures your spirit into a simple cursed box, something easy to overlook. He tends to it carefully, you will not be slighted after all, and he makes sure it's always hidden and never in the same place twice in a row. He truly believes he's the only one that can properly take care of you, the way he sees it the others let you die even with all their power and research. He used to stay back, be more wary and be more sneaky about taking up your time, certain that the others would lash out at him if they knew he was taking up your attention but part of the reason he wasn't too worried about staying back was also that he knew the others could pamper you and guard you in ways he simply couldn't. But now? Now he sees that they truly truly don't deserve you. You're dead now because of their complacency, their spoiled nature that didn't know how to appreciate what they had. He will keep your ghost safe, keep you to himself. And little ol Ruggie will finally have something and someone all to himself.
-Ace, Deuce, Jack, and Sebek are heartbroken and furious about your circumstances. In their eyes, it is the fault of not just themselves but also the others for not protecting you properly and for becoming blinded with fighting amongst themselves to the point of losing you. They become more united in their misery and resolve to do better by keeping your spirit tethered to a sturdy chest. They take turns guarding and sharing your presence and attention. They do bicker slightly, they are yanderes with extreme jealousy and possessive natures but they remember the bone deep ache of despair when they thought you were lost to the afterlife forever. Remembering all the times you were unattended due to bickering higher ranking killers, time that should have been spent focusing on you. It's clear that a United front was needed to keep you safer. They are used to having to hang out and are the closest to each other of the Horrorland cast. You will never be taken from them, not if they are all there. They are not as strong as the high ranking killers of NRC camp but together they can certainly fend off and out maneuver most.
-similar to the above, trey believes it was the fact ppl didn't pay enough attention and didn't stay by your side as much as they needed to but unlike the above he simply can't wrangle them all into doing better. So rather than attempt to bring it up and have to deal with conflict he just captures your spirit into a jar that he keeps nearby when cooking. He loves it, he can tend to you, give you offerings to eat (like leaving food at memorials to feed the dead) and protect you.
-Riddle literally just tethers your soul into his roses. You can always be together and participate in his activities now. His darling rose.
Ghosts can be taken into the body in an attempt to become more powerful with a merged soul, can be induced into possessing a body for rituals, or forcefully taken into a body to be captured or exorcised etc. This group does this because they don't even want to entertain anything so half-hearted as simply having an object take you. No, the safest and surest thing to never be apart is to fuse you to themselves. They will never suffer losing you again in any manner.
-Malleus, Idia, Rook, Floyd, Epel
Malleus does this because why the hell would he do something as half assed and impermanent as capture your soul into an item when he can tie you to his very own soul, you will become one in the truest sense. There will never be worry about losing you because you cannot be lost unless he dies. Together forever in the truest sense.

If he can suffer loss of a loved one more than once then what's stopping him from suffering endless losses. No. He cannot abide this. So in fear of every having to lose you again he would merge your soul to him, bind your spirit to his very being
Rook as well, can't abide by such a loss again and also would never do something without full passion. Merging your spirit to him is the ultimate act of romance, of protection and beauty. Truly becoming one. His fear of loss, guilt at not being able to protect you, and genuine belief he didn't do enough and that he should've been there, should have never left your side drive him to tether you to his own soul in the belief this is the only true way to prove his devotion, his genuine feelings, and how to keep you safe at his side
Floyd and epel are doing this for the same reason as rook but also because they're both hot headed, passionate and impulsive and going immediately to dramatic drastic measures fits them. Why mess around with artefacts and objects when they can just use themselves and do everything themselves.

Maybe the roses Riddle puts you in are also Aceās rosesā¦ then wouldnāt Ace feel your soul with him at all times? Or maybe from time to time.
Orrrrrrr Ace comes back all sad and maybe mc is a plant rose monster now, kind of?? Or not- but what im thinking of is needy Ace <3 Ace is a rose plant monster.. your soul is bonded to a rose bush of sorts- roses, Riddleās roses. He must protect you and link both of your roses together :)
Their overall reaction would be a bit different if it's an accident that caused this. I will also say that depending on if there's a target to vent on, the aftermath obsession will either be equivalent to before or massively increased. Mainly since there's no target to vent grief on which means there's no specific way to prevent this from happening again, from the world itself taking you, and that just ramps up everyone's paranoia and fear.
If it's Ramshackle that collapses then they can blame Crowley and will be taking it out on him.
If it's just by pure crazy coincidence, random incident via weather or health or otherwise, then they truly have no place to vent and can only fester on how they couldn't help. There's no specific cause, there's no fix. No amount of planning, scheming and guarding would have helped. And i think that's the worst part for them, that there's nothing they could have done to stop this. With a cause, a reason, there's a solution and with a solution there's a sense of control or at least the semblance of control, of stability.
Without a reason, without a cause, a way to plan for next time, there's a sense of helplessness. For them, no control means no stability. The yanderes would be even worse with a ghost darling who died for some unpredictable unpreventable incident. There's an underlying terror in every action, a deep rooted fear made worse by confirmation that you can leave them or be hurt at any time and there's nothing they can truly do. They will still try to prevent any slip ups but they will genuinely panic any time ghost yuu leaves their sight.
As for the roses, Riddle can either make yuu into a plant monster (provided there's still a corpse or ghost) or tether their ghost to a spot or object (like a forced haunting or sealing a spirit, think of the genie being tied to the lamp). I can see Ace attempting to steal Yuu away in the second scenario, especially if ghost yuu now embodies a rose. He will attempt to graft yuu to him.
So technically Riddle COULD give yuu a body n become a rose plant zombie, but only if thereās a body? ā¦..if not, then what?
Also the angst potential that if yuu suddenly disappeared, and all they find of them is the remainings of a corpse, cause it took them months to find them so now the corpse isā¦. Yeah NOT in a good shape šššš and maybe a whole YEAR goes through and THATS when the ghost of Yuu appears
I need to know more abt rose Ace n now ghost rose yuu <,3 imagining ghost yuu just hanging out near the roses, and because they simply can, they dress like a rose, since their soul is bound to these roses. Rose petals shaped skirt with thorn thingies as sleeves n such, idk.
Thinking of yuu learning what her friends were truly like but sheās not that surprised, just.. disappointed (thatās a understatement, but she gets its how the world works here). Kind of sad learning Ace n Deuce, her two closest friends, are actually DEAD. Their corpses long decade but still walking.

So, one day Riddle was putting some āfertilizerā on the roses (ejem corpses ejem) and left them there.
A few minutes later he returned with a odd feeling in his gut, and he saw Yuuās Roses were wilting which should happen- but they were fine before! So Riddle adds 2 n 2 together, these Roses do NOT react well to corpses.
So now he has to buy actual fertilizer š lol
Everyone goes to check on the roses. Water them, sweet talk them- cause yes for some (cute) reason yuuās flowers becomeā¦ nicer somehow when they get sweet talked. Oh! And leave music playing near them. Funnily enough the roses react better to metal. Just a tiny bit though.
When yuu comes back she knows of everything.
So sheās more upset with some people than others.
Some did for survival, some for necessity because they HAVE to eat human meat, some because of instinct and canāt really control it. she understands that. But the rest? No. Simply no. She wonāt talk with them, wonāt say a word to those that kill simply cause. Be it amusement, for views, for youth, for trauma and experiments- doesnāt matter. Bad. Yuu doesnāt like them. Yuu wonāt talk about what happened to them/her. She just.. goes eye wide, freezes, before fading away, and takes a whole week for her to come back (cause sheās not terrified anymore, probably, kind of). But she WONāT talk about it.
Oh also because of the nature of her roses, sadly Ace and Deuce canāt move their respective flowers near her cause otherwise she wilts :,3 they got terrified when Riddle told them about the wilting incident and now they donāt know how to be near you? They fear cause they eat human meat you will wilt by merely being near them (she wonāt, but they donāt know that- sheāll wilt if thereās corpses nearby- or in her sight. OG: A dying magic cat that was saved by Yuu one night and has become extremely loyal to the main character.
RC: Spoiled, fat, tuna stealing magic cat. You saved him quite early on in his life. He sees you as his henchman and acts like you are above himā¦ and he's still very much the one company that is the same throughout the story

OG: A thief in ruining the law of the new government of the Rosehearts family. Became one of Yuu's loyal companions early on in the story
RC: Your loyal advisor. After meeting you, his life change for the better in a way and he studied to work the royal family.

OG: Also a fugitive that's running from the law for reasons unknown for him cause he technically didn't do anything wrong. Became one of Yuu's loyal companions early on in the story

OG: Son of the Barons that sided with the Rosehearts factions by force. Doesn't like his position at all so he sided with Yuu to stop the war from happening.

OG: Once royal family cook, turned to casualties if Yuu did not come to the Heartslabyul nation in time.
RC: Still the royal family cook, but became your at first unwilling ally in your weird obsession with gardening.
RC: Your childhood friend who was originally about to be arranged to be married to you, but instead freed from his motherās influence and is working hard to be a great ally to his kingdomā¦ and you. Not engaged, but he's in love with you and will get his family honor back just to have your hand.

With your cryptical message, he managed to find the slums that the nobles that surrounded his brother tried to cover up and not notice.

RC: Due to Azul's much needed confidence he met Azul at much of a younger age and actually befriended him before he worked for Azul. Which does affect their work relationship as a whole. Calls you a shrimp when he first met you hunching on your garden.

OG: Azul's right hand man. He and Floyd met Azul at a later age, and is a part of Azul's schemes because it entertains him. Can or Will betray Azul if Yuu offers a better incentive to him.
RC: Like his brother, Azul seeks him at a younger age which creates a better bond for the two to Azul before working with him. Though, he can't help wondering who this āpearlā he kept talking about when he first met the young Azulā¦ Of course, he knew better now. After meeting you, you became one of his gardening buddies due to your obsession with gardening.

OG: A selfish Merchant who sabotages his kingdom to gain control from the back seats due to mistreatments of his pride and family from the same kingdom.
RC: A son of a respectable Merchant who travels to gain a prestigious reputation after his first meeting from you. Your invitation to the Ashengrotto family to your family house was the key to making his family name a much more respectable one than just a merchant. He still cunning

OG: the mastermind behind the Al-asimās fall, the one who pulled the strings behind the scenes. Yuu arrived too late either way, unable to stop the calamity from happening. If Yuu had managed to arrive just a tiny bit earlier, maybe theyād get to choose wether Jamil died by the hands of the people of Silk City(or whatever name I want) or by their own hands. If not, Jamil wouldāve suicided of Yuu came to arrive too late. His life having no purpose, and because of a heated fight between himself and Kalim, everyone in the city knew of the true nature of Jamil, so Jamil couldnāt truly be free.

Iād like to write about Yuuās first meeting with Ace and Deuce and the beginnings of their friendship. But Iām not sure whether I should base it on the game or the manga? I like both, so I wanted to know if anyone has a preference?

The manga is how each individual yuu deals with the situation on their own. Though for some reason the manga decided to not make book 0- or more like,, they changed it??? At the anime at least x,c idk i didnāt read the manga- but they changed how ace deuce grim n yuu met which is,, weird. I donāt like it. Not really. Burning the statue of the seven is a great reason to be upset, but not worth being expelled over, unlike the chandelier :,3 which is a thing that canāt be fixed truly unless you get the special gemstone and all that x,d
what the hell do you mean crowley told the evacuating students to go get the other housewardens. what the hell do you mean six other teenagers/young adults had students from another dorm run up to them in their own dorms to tell them that one of their peers was actively self-destructing in the most dangerous thing a mage could do and condition a mage could be in. what the hell do you mean those six had to collectively come to terms with the fact that a seventeen-year-old was basically killing himself with his own magic and repressed emotions before they could do anything.
i wonder how it went when each of them went to heartslabyul, expecting to find corpses, only finding a small handful of students, including the magicless prefect and their monster familiar(?), who stood their ground, and the news that riddle was completely fine and was on the way to the nurse with his vice and the headmage.

(i mean, based on the cut to savanaclaw, leona didn't go anywhere, so either none of the housewardens were actually told, they just couldn't find leona before being told that riddle was fine, or they just went straight to the staff and the more available housewardens, i.e. vil, kalim, maybe azul, etc.āor i'm just thinking about this reasonable throwaway line way too much lololol)
we can pretty safely assume that most of the other hw didn't get along with pre-ob riddle. it's shown in idia's ceremonial wear vignette why that would be. i can very well see several of them (namely leona, azul, and jamil convincing kalim) not doing shit because it's not their problem, why should they step in?
and yeah, i doubt any of them would really know what to do, if they even fully understood what an overblot was. they're a bunch of kids, and as powerful as most of them are, what could they do? the only exceptions would be idia, who's pretty damn familiar with this kind of stuff, and malleus, who could've pretty easily subdued riddle with their magic.
and the heartslabyul students intentionally not getting help... given the fucking teacup thrown at riddle's head before his ob, i don't doubt that some of them at least didn't really consider or care about the supposed-to-be fatal consequences of the whole situation. again, a bunch of kids. primarily 16-18 year olds. definitely not old enough for their decision making to be sound as it could be.

i've been thinking about something today. imagine how fucking JARRING it was at nrc to know that not only had one of their classmates overblotted, but he also survived. it's blatantly stated that he frankly should have died. they expected him to die. riddle was one of very few people in the recorded history of overblots (a rare phenomenon that's barely studied DUE TO THE LACK OF SURVIVAL in and of itself) to survive, and as far as canon goes, with no physical repercussions. before the obvious pattern ("oh shit, someone from every dorm is overblotting and somehow surviving unscathed") was established, how weird do you think that was for everyone?
how weird do you think it would've been for the world if it'd been made public? "oh yeah, a seventeen-year-old boy (of relatively poor health due to malnutrition and stress at that) survived an overblot. what the hell is up with that."
some of the strongest mages in history didn't survive overblotting. maleanor didn't survive overblotting, and she's a) fae, so more inherently magical than a human, and b) incredibly powerful due to being a draconia. what was going through people's heads? do you think that his classmates stared at him, wondering how he survived? wondering if anything (physical) had changed? do you think he looked at himself in the mirror and wondered the same things? do you think idia and lilia looked at him and wondered how he survived, but not ortho (literally has a curse on their bloodline not to overblot) and maleanor (strong and resilient as SHIT, and also, as previously mentioned, inherently more magical)?
on the topic of riddle himself surviving, what if he hadn't? an entire dorm of teenagers would've seen their classmate, dormmate, housewarden die (or at least directly before). what would crowley have told dr rosehearts? would he have told her the truth? (answer: hell no.) what lie would he have told? some sort of accidentāmagical, or maybe in the equestrian club? he suddenly died of an illness before they could send him home? that he did something to himself? would they send his body home? or to STYX? what state would his body be in? would trey have gone home and told his family what happened? would the others? what about when leona overblotted, would he die too? would people wonder if he would? would he wonder how he deserved to survive but a child, his underclassman, didn't?
riddle supposedly went to class the next day (or day after that, can't remember if his ob was on like a saturday or something or if it was a weekday).

there's a reason that STYX yoinked these kids up. it's because they're a complete anomaly. they're an idiosyncrasy. they're an enigma. they're completely defying everything known about overblots.
they're overblotting, surviving, and then walking it off like a scraped knee or stubbed toe. none of them have any sign of injury or lasting side effects. hell, bystanders are more injured than them, sometimes before they even overblot.**
psychologically, these kids are extremely traumatized. even before overblotting:
- riddle was verbally and emotionally abused by his mother, emotionally neglected by his father
- leona was emotionally abused by his family (via comparing him to his fully grown brother), and entirely neglected by them
- azul was horribly abused by his peers in a form of racism
- jamil was exploited by a system of generational slavery and didn't even get to have his one alone place (nrc) to himself
- vil (arguably with the least severe case) has been in the industry since childhood, which is proven to mess people up (it's frankly a form of exploitation in and of itself), and has been typecasted so strictly that he literally cannot land any other role, which has severely affected his view of himself and the world around him
- idia watched his younger brother die right in front of him at ten years old, and is emotionally neglected by his parents (and assumably was by his grandmother)
- malleus has been groomed for leadership and emotionally neglected, taken away from the one person who would've actually cared for them, left with severe abandonment issues and social troubles (arguably also a victim of peer abuse, but less so due to prejudice Ć la racism and more so fear)
AND THEY ALL GOT OUT PHYSICALLY UNSCATHED???
these are fucking KIDS. "vil and idia are eighteen, leona is twenty, malleus is 170-" SHUT. malleus isn't fully mature, for one, and what eighteen/twenty-year-old is fully mature or independent? not a happy one!***
*jamil overblotted during winter break, and therefore didn't technically go back to class the very next day, but the nonchalance remains.
**leona used his UM on ruggie before he actually overblotted, but he was just about actively falling over the edge.
***some happy, healthy people are independent by that age, but they usually have their family as a safety net. here, by independent, i'm referring to being entirely self-reliant with no outside assistance, which none of the aforementioned legal adults are (which i'm not even sure malleus is, given fae aging differs wildly from humans and between subspecies, i.e. dragon, nocturnal, those tiny ones from the fairy gala, etc.)
