Boss as Courier Six

AU in which Mark accidentally kills the Captain during their final standoff, and successfully sends himself and the warp core back in time.

He believes everything is fine. He fixed the warp core and stopped the Captain from sabotaging it. Now they can finally proceed with their journey like they were supposed to.

All that’s left is to “meet” the Captain, except… they’re not HIS Captain. Not the one who saved him from getting sucked into the vacuum of space. Not the one who stopped him from attacking Wug. Not the one who has lived and died by his side across thousands of lives. Not the one that remembers every life they spent together. They are just… the Captain. The one who just arrived to the Invincible II.

Something in Marks’s heart hurts when the Captain doesn’t recognize him. He tries to ignore it, it’s better the Captain doesn’t know how they destroyed the universe, but it still hurts nonetheless. Who would’ve thought you would become attached to the one person who faced death after death with you.

It doesn’t matter now though. The Captain Mark knew was dead. He… killed them. He saw the blood pooling under their skull, the way their breathing slowed to a stop. Now he was alone. The sole bearer of the thousands of universes destroyed, all the lives lost.

But that was over now. He fixed it. Now all that’s left is to go to cryosleep and wake up at their new home.
