I have a lot of interests in a lot of different media - TV shows, book series, comics, movies, etc. And while I don't make art or stuff for all of them I do make it for a lot of them. I also love talking to people about them so this will act as a reference for my blogs main focuses and what topics will be most likely to be covered and what will most likely be answered with asks. He understands Holmes' science talk most of the time! John is not the average man in London!! He has traveled the world, gained information about many cultures, and is very educated!! Do not make John dumb!! Make the police dumb!! Contrast Sherlock with John by highlighting the fact that Watson is still intelligent - Sherlock is just a freak like that!
My favourite version of this being shown is in the sherlock holmes inspired/adaptation called Psych (yes homies, its psych time) in which "John" is Burton Guster (aka gus, aka mc clap yo handz, aka sh'dynasty, aka hollabackatcha, etc) who is Shawn Spencer ("sherlock")'s best friend. But their dynamic works so well in the way that Gus knows random things/facts about obscure topics that Shawn just doesn't (and sometimes a bit more common sense when Shawn is being a silly goose) that very often solves the case! Shawn and Gus work so well because of them being recognised as intelligent, just in different ways (Shawn with his observation/detective skills, and Gus with his information/context). and i love it so much :D
I love Psych so much, my dad used to watch it all the time and it rubbed off on me. Probably what got me into detective stories in general along with Bones. But YES. Psych is a really good example of doing the Watson + Sherlock dynamic right! I know they're not truly a formal "adaptation" but truly what detective story with freakishly intelligent guy and lovable companion guy working with/against the police isn't a Sherlock Holmes adaptation? But yes, Gus is such a good character, obviously not the main source of deduction on the team but his knowledge of pharmaceuticals come in handy along with multiple other pieces of trivia he knows in multiple episodes and it's obvious that Shawn couldn't do what he does without Gus helping. This made my day so thank you!!

I don't understand why do people choose to make John dumb so often, if you really wanna make someone dumb then imo just make the police dumb, leave Watson alone

Icewings are fucked up like horses and no other tribes know
so. This is my head canon that since
1: for twenty years Icewings were completely isolated from the other tribes and probably even longer before that due to losing the jewelry that let others through the wall
2: they believe themselves to be superior and would probably be very private about the details of their tribe
And 3: all other tribes of dragons emit warmth and heat while Icewings inexplicably emit cold? + a bunch of other weird stuff
Taking this information I like to believe that the anatomy and biology of Icewings is super fucked up and weird compared to the other tribes and none of the other tribes know.
*science stuff + individual cases underneath the cut*
Icewings have blue blood, this is common knowledge yes. But the effects of this are not. Blue blood actually helps with living in cold environments which makes sense but it also allows survival in extremely low oxygen environments. So theoretically Icewings can probably fly even higher than Skywings since they can survive in the thin air of the upper atmosphere. No Icewings have tried to do that yet because it's incredibly tiring to fly that high with their wings but still. It could happen.
Not only that but blue blood helps the immune system against bacteria. So Icewings are basically immune to most illnesses caused by bacteria, but I like to think that this would make them more susceptible to viruses that the other tribes treat like the common cold (this would probably also be due to their isolation)
In addition, due to their incredibly light color they are probably amazing at hunting fish and diving for prey. This would work similarly to how white grizzly bears are more successful ambush fishers because the fish don't see the shadow of the bear due to light reflecting off their fur. Not only that but Icewings have serrated claws which are perfect for fish. This would work similarly in the sky and could possibly even work to blind prey with their reflective scales.
Despite their tendency to prefer cold environments Icewings don't actually overheat in the desert/sun easily. Their light colored scales would reflect the sunlight, like how blonde people's heads don't get as hot in the sun as brown or black haired people. Just imagine Moon and Winter in the desert with Qibli and Moon is suffering in the heat with her black scales and she feels bad for Winter who must be suffering far more than her... and he's just fine, mildly annoyed by the sun in his eyes while no one can look straight at him because he's like staring at a sheet of white snow on a sunny day (very bright if you didn't know). The only reason he disliked the rainforest so much was because of the humidity - the tundra of the Icewings Kingdom would be incredible arid.
Finally the most fucked up thing about Icewings: instead of body heat they somehow emit cold. Which is impossible due to cold being the simple absence of heat and therefore being unable to be "emitted" (I am not explaining thermodynamics but it's the reason the outside of your freezer/fridge might get hot, it's actually absorbing the heat). So, they must therefore be absorbing and retaining heat in their bodies. That's the real reason they can survive in such cold places - their body retains heat at a much higher rate than the other tribes. The reason the air feels cold around them is because they are absorbing all of the heat around them into their body. This also is compatible with frostbreath, the Icewings absorb as much heat as possible from an organ in their throat, making their saliva freeze, creating frost breath. This is also why they must be in a cold enough place to do it - if they do it somewhere too warm then they will actually over heat as they absorb way too much heat as opposed to getting frozen from over usage. (This intense control over their body heat would also lead to some interesting effects when it comes to fevers) I don't really have a scenario for this except maybe Clay takes the internal temperature of an Icewing student as a part of a check up and actually freaks the hell out at how high it is, having expected a lower number to the averages of other tribes.
Some less scientific and more silly example of weird things Icewings can do in my mind:
Their extra "horns" shaped like icicles? They're actually just really big scales and will fall off and shed after a while. Imagine one of Winter's "horns" is loose and it's annoying him so in the middle of breakfast he just reaches back and pulls it off. The rest of the winglet starts thinking that Winter's dying and are freaking the fuck out, meanwhile Winter has like eight of these hidden in his bed.
Their long tail is not prehensile but they can grab things with it by whipping it around an object and may be able to use it as a grapple weapon. Qibli wanders off from the group and is stopped by a thin white tail winding around his arm and dragging him back.
Finally something that's more cute and has special applications for a funny romance scene: Icewings would blush blue not red. Since their blood is blue they would flush to a light or dark blue instead of the red the other tribes would. And while this may seem self explanatory it is easily forgotten or simply not figured out by the other tribes. I specifically believe Qibli, despite his common sense, would not be able to put two and two together. Instead of figuring out that Winter keeps getting flustered around him Qibli genuinely believes that Winter is sick or something because he's holding his breath around him (red blooded creatures turn "blue" with lack of oxygen).

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.
SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.
SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.
Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.
Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.
Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.
Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.
Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.
Trying to draw Sherlock Holmes is the nightmare I never knew I needed because on one hand: I want to draw some of his modern interpretations which will obviously look different than his older or original interpretation. On the other hand: I have no idea how I want him to look and having multiple designs only worsens my different face syndrome (I try to draw the same character multiple times but they always look different). But it is funny because I enjoy the trope of Sherlock being and inherently faceless character whose appearance is constantly changing depending on his interpretation. As examples here are some doodles of Sherlock Holmes and of course Watson (I have the same problem with him but on a smaller degree).
oh god my old art. I can appreciate it now but it genuinely kills me to look at sometimes. But growth is good and being able to look back at old art and be in awe of how I've come is amazing :) especially because I can see the steps I've taken to get to where I've gotten

for me being bi has contributed a huge amount to noticing all the ways in which romance and friendship run together and i think in general people would benefit from recognizing that romance and friendship are socially constructed categories used to describe a vast, nebulous, and often overlapping range of feelings
Every Relationship is actually a specific, unique thing. We invented Shorthands, such as Friend or Husband, to help describe recurring motifs in Relationships. But. The labels are simplifications. They will always fail to adequately contain the entirety of the Relationship.
Love is a spectrum and there are so many different ways to show it, feel it, different categories. I think the Greeks got closest with their different words for different types of love but even then you can combine them. There's so many different layers to love and human experience and I find it dumb to just put everything under a strict label. Labels are categories that have different levels and spectrums within them. This can be applied to relationship labels and sexuality/gender labels. <3
