honestly it's about most things I enjoy that also get reasonably popular on here. it's not inherently awful, but there's a trend I've noticed repeating where a reasonably good but not particularly socially progressive work gets big on here, the gay people online interpret it with very socially progressive lenses, the work itself is competent enough at depicting a semi realistic image of the world that it doesn't actively contradict those lenses, and then (this is the annoying bit) the gay people online assert very forcefully that that progressive lens is the singular intended interpretation by the work's creator. the lenses themselves are oftentimes pretty good, and far be it from me to be against transformative analysis as a whole, it's just a bit vexing to see fairly mainstream politically moderate works be lauded as intentionally socially conscious when they really Aren't while there 100% are works that are actually like that out there that don't get the same type of commendation.
