It’s crazy and fucked up that being yourself is actually the solution.
It’s like. When I was told to “just be yourself” as a kid I thought it was a passive thing. Like oh easy I just have to sit here and be myself. but the reason so many people think that “being yourself” is bullshit advice is because you actually have to make active choices to do this and it WILL make your life way more fun. You have to wear t-shirts of bands that were popular ten years ago because you like them. You have to do your hair in a way that you find cute or comfortable even if it’s “so nineties”. If your friend says a food you enjoy is gross to them, you can’t be afraid to admit you casually disagree. You have to do hobbies that you’re interested in even if you’re bad at them and you cant feel like you have to get good at something before you tell people it’s an activity you do. You have to read manga and comic books in public and get piercings your relatives think are unattractive. You don’t have to tell people you dislike that you dislike them, but you don’t have to give them your time and attention either. You have to rewatch that kids show you’re nostalgic for even if you’re in your 30s. You have to change your name if you hate it, even if only a few close friends can know. You have to get fun girly drinks at the bar. You have to order hot chocolate when you don’t like coffee and black coffee when you don’t like sweet things. I am still bad at practicing this but it is the only way to make it all tolerable.
you have to do it on purpose
it's literally the evilest thing in the world to finally have time to write but then be tired. like wow you're telling me these two hours before going to bed are completely free but my brain is just Not Feeling It? fuck off

''what if you regret it'' then you will expirience regret - a normal and unavoidable part of the human expirience.
the more you twist yourself into a pretzel to avoid regret the harder it will hit when it eventually catches up to you.

Someday I think I should talk about my relationship with God, or the lack of it, with my therapist.
I went to a catholic school. We had a prayer every morning on the speakers (that was all around the school). We had to buy a Bible (even though we didn't read it regularly (or at all in my case)). There was religious class for those who wanted to follow Catholicism. I never went on those.
(And I grew up being raise by my grandfather, since I never met my biological father.)
I was raised on Spiritist Doutrine (Kardecist Spiritism, to be more exact), even though 99% of my family is catholic. But my mom always left a room for me to decide what I wanted to follow when I grew up, although my grandma is very vocal about me not following on their steps in the Doutrine.
As a teenager I really got into studying History, Geopolitics and Sociology. When I really started to study Socialism and the Marxist Theory my vision about religion (that wasn't exactly good so far) became more strict. For a moment in time I just didn't believe in god at all. But it's not Socialism's fault, of course, that's actually mine.
When I found out about the cancer I was just like "ok, I'm gonna do all you say, doc, and what science can get for me" because how could I turn to god and ask for salvation when I had, for the last four years or something, got indifferent? I didn't think that was fair, so I never prayed for my health, I just hoped for the best as the surgery and treatment went on.
My doctor once even said "thank God, he gave you a second chance" and I just smiled, because how could God give little old me a second chance when there are kids dying from the same disease? Why am I worth it more than them? Why do I deserve a second chance, but their families have to live with their loss?
Of course I'm glad for my life, though. I thought for my life twice so far, first, with depression (for 6 years) and, second, with Thyroid Cancer (for 2 years). I'm glad I'm in Law School and that I get to see the Sun again. But still.
The beautiful art of Thomas Blackshear II
i went to his website and saw even more great art! sharing some more which i particularly appreciated
I won't ever get over the removal of headphone jacks, or micro sd slots, or cd drives. I won't. Fuck everyone and everything
really love keeping up with my mutuals through their little tags and vent posts. getting updates on how they’re doing is something like: glad to know your job at the library is going well. i’m sorry you haven’t gotten that raise. glad your finals went well. i’m sorry your teacher is so unhelpful. glad your tv show got renewed. i’m sorry they killed your favorite character. glad that you scored tickets to see your favorite artist. i’m sorry they aren’t touring near you at all. glad your cat is doing well. i’m sorry your mom is sick again. glad you’re feeling better now that it’s your favorite season. i’m sorry your meds aren’t working. glad you’re married now. i’m sorry you have to step back for your mental health. glad you’re still here. i’m sorry life is so hard. glad you’re alive, i hope things get easier for you soon

Scooby Doo has great life lessons to teach:
If something evil is happening, it’s probably an old white man trying to make money.
