Yeah well there was a lot of (rightful) criticism around that scene. Doctors spoke up and said that you only need a suspicion to report something for CPS to VISIT. This doesn’t go on some kind of record for the parent and it’s weird that Robby would be so hesitant. Especially with a child’s mental and physical health on the line.

Then, knowing the child will be living exclusively with her father now that her mother’s imprisoned, I found the Santos scene odd. Threatening the abuser will most likely lead to him punishing the victim for speaking out. I know the show was trying to show how badass Santos is (and she is) and give insight into her backstory, BUT I’m not really a fan of sexual assault storylines being used to advance the story-arcs of others, or show how gold-hearted they are, when doing so just brings more risk to the actual victim.

AND THEN the worst thing is that they did it again. In season 2. Robby said the same thing, that they wouldn’t report. They could have totally reported.

I remember reading about how concerned ppl were abt this. They said there shouldn’t be misinformation about these types of procedures and they’re right. There shouldn’t be.

Realism, or something being “realistic,” is a narrative tool. Nothing can ever be fully realistic in story telling. The point is to give the impression that it is and that’s where the art lies.

So while child abuse happens and even false allegations happen, I found the way the show handled it to be unrealistic for actual scenarios. It was pretty obviously story driven.

But now, when they say that Samira Mohan leaving is just “realistic” for a hospital is SUCH obvious crap. Sirs you are writing this story. There is intention behind everything. Don’t pretend that this hospital is real and Gloria came down with her clipboard in the writer’s room and said: “You know we need to make some cuts. Let’s start with Samira. Randomly cut all her scenes.”

the pitt season two took all of that goodwill, that huge, diverse, incredibly intelligent and kind audience, and instead of continuing to give them the stories they wanted - that the show promised in season one - once it grabbed their attention it directed 90% of it towards the white men.

i think if season one had been more robby focused, people wouldn’t have been so disappointed by season two. but they also probably would’ve had a smaller fandom.

“oh but robby was always the main character even back in season one, the show was always going to be about him! he’s always been the most important to the narrative!” if you genuinely believe this i have a beach to sell you. the show SAYS robby is the main character, and everyone took that at face. but the problem with a show trying to say something is that it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t back it up with on screen evidence. it spends so much time telling you to read between the lines and then gets surprised when people call out the sexism and racism.

we thought robby‑mohan was gonna be one of the hearts of the show… meanwhile it looks like there wasn’t even a real discussion between nw and supriya, given how wildly different the way each of them talks about their characters’ dynamic is

and on top of that they straight‑up erased samira (and thus supriya) from the show

and tossed out plenty of genuinely interesting storylines just to make room for a byke and a clumsy white boy

and try to justify that overused, recycled storytelling of the poor sad white man – who, to be fair, can’t really help it if he’s awful to his coworkers and subordinates, notably women – with "it’s realism"

The two of them have not watched the same show.

However much the creators like to tell people that the pitt is supposed to be a show that doesn't spoonfeed the audience, it's interesting that one of the actors involved seems to need to explain the exact motivation of his character so much. And when that supposed motivation is SO at odds with what has been actually portrayed on screen, you have to wonder: was that actually how they played it, or is this just damage control?

You have the audience noticing robby's misogyny, and the female cast members playing it as dealing with someone with intrinsic prejudices, and Wyle "joking" about needing more women to shout at. It feels like maybe someone is getting a tad bit defensive, and is trying to explain away things, while ignoring what the show is telling us about the character.

he watches her pull off a risky crike procedure that she admits to never having performed before, saving a child’s life. he watches how his colleagues like and respect her as a leader and physician. he’s fine with tense back-and-forth until al hashimi dares to call him out on his behavior towards mohan. why is this the point of no return?

robby views mohan, and all of the ER, as his. in his mind, al hashimi is a threat to his power, authority and dominance. he has this disrespect towards all the women of colour in the pitt. he is absolutely domineering to the point of violence both physical (overriding garcia aside to cut into the septic patient’s leg) and verbal (demeaning santos and mohan in front of their peers). notice how he is NEVER that way to dana, mel, or mckay.

but I feel like the diehard robby stans forget that the characters in a show are written and integrated into a whole by other people, and aren’t actual standalone individuals. at least, that’s the impression it gives.

You can chant all you want "if the women in the show worry about Robby, keep saying he’s not a bad guy, and take it upon themselves to stay warm and accommodating toward him, there must be a reason"

yes and the reason is : it’s a show produced by 3 men. and those 3 men have the final say on how everything comes across. doesn’t matter who’s in the creative team or the cast.

we’re not saying that robby is a awful dipshit. we’re saying that the way he was portrayed this season – and especially how his relationships with other characters, particularly the female ones, were depicted – reinforces harmful patterns.

getting worked up over wyle’s sexist comments – even though they’ve been nonstop for weeks and tied to questionable situations involving his female and POC collegues – shows a lack of perspective and discernment..

and if we’re not even giving him the benefit of the doubt about his good intentions, we might as well stop reacting..
