I dont know what else to do about this and it has me freaking out-- for context I used to be friends with this artist and we met through other art mutuals but only for me to realize she is very close with and mutuals with Salem has me so upset. Hey for the record I think its weird that salems allergic to masculinity but I too am a feminine trans man. I have no current desire to transition medically. My main fursona is still a woman and I never see myself changing that. The only wrong way to be trans is to police the way other trans people present. One of the things that irritated me the most about salems rant over paying bills, is the ending. Imagine being so ignorant to your privilege that you proudly announce how much it irritates you that you can't just spend your "tips" on whatever you want. salem spends so much time talking about his relationship with blackness and racism and projects that onto hitch, but when it comes to hitomi her only relationship to her race is being divorced from it entirely because her japanese father passed away. Thats all she gets. just 'its so sad she can't connect fully with her non-white side' racism? doesnt exist for her. Gonna rant, mostly about me struggling to balance having sympathy for Salem's mental struggles and also being frustrated that he's actively taking advantage of people.
I'm not of the opinion that Salem "needs to suck it up and get a real job" bc like. This dude is disabled, mentally and (by his claims) physically. I think if he literally can't work, then that's whatever. But I've seen him blatantly ignore comments recommending alternative means of income (comms, merch, unemployment, community aid) and he fucking ignores it. I sort of get it. I have severe executive dysfunction and struggle to do things if it's not easily explained to me or if I don't understand how. But I ask for help. Look up resources. I figure it out. If finances are as tight as Salem says they are, I don't understand why begging for donations is the only thing that works. It's naive at least and predatory at most. I literally saw a commenter say they were going to donate as soon as they found income for themselves! Why is he promoting this mentality where his fans have to take care of him rather than making efforts to secure things for himself?
It's just not good for anyone longterm. These young fans are learning to give money to strangers on the internet who they're parasocially attached with, and Salem is just gonna run himself into the ground at this rate.
Theres also remote jobs. Desk jobs where you get to sit down all the time. I know it's not common but ive gotten jobs where shifts are like. 4 hours a day and my bosses let me have 3 days a week since I also cannot work very much. Theres plenty of options and he doesnt want to take any of them so I dont really have any sympathy for this plight
