friends-to-lovers fanfiction writers need to get it in their heads that just because they have unresolved trauma from their high school “homoerotic situationship” doesn’t mean all of want to be exposed to their (untagged!!) saccharine and vapid fetish…. imagine an impressionable user reads your o/n/e b/e/d trope fic and feels pressured to enter a monogamous romantic relationship, or god forbid m*rriage, the next time they have sex with a close friend or roommate. all because you’ve normalized this bullshit. get better coping mechanisms or is fluff the only thing in your skull as well?

in the cut by susanna moore was a huge inspiration for this, her prose is so blunt and alluring… i wanted to capture that same feeling of how she writes how the main character perceives people and the interior (literally) of their lives mixed with the dangerous eroticism of power play. this went through a lot of editing and i’m really proud of how it turned out! there will definitely be some more work with these two characters. i love that they function similarly in a lot of regards with completely different moral compasses and ethics. you really have to wonder why toni is so open with things about bess, despite being so much older than her.
