❝  hold  still !  ❞      ——  this  may  have  been  a  mistake.    alma's  fingers  are  entwined  around  a  thick  strand  of  his  companion's  hair,   braid  half - finished  as  he  tries  to  tuck  it  back  into  a  ponytail.    this  mission's  been  a  rough  one.    some  part  of  him  knows  it  isn't  fair  to  be  so  demanding,   not  after  kanda's  taken  so  many  hits,    ( damn  martyr ! )    but  he  just  can't  help  it.    maybe  that's  why  he's  so  grumpy.    maybe  it's  the  maze  of  nearly - healed  marks  underneath  a  uniform  yu  deserves  better  than  to  wear.      finally,   after  another  agonizing  ten  seconds,   alma  gives  up  and  vents  a  sigh.      ❝  it's  gonna  get  in  your  face  again.  ❞

❝ . . . ❞ there is not a workspace in the world safe from disturbance, especially where damon is concerned. a bowl of cleanly sliced fruit clatters gently beside him at the table, and alma stands to watch him— wordlessly, at first, until he plucks a piece from the bowl to munch on. the mix is all strawberries, grapes, and cantaloupe. pretty good ! except now what was initially a quiet afternoon has become a conversation. ❝ you're probably gonna faint if you don't eat anything, y'know. ❞

❝ oi ! ❞ a shrill cry cuts the silence, a sound unsuited to alma's defense as he whips around. embarrassment stains his cheeks and innocence flares at the ready, though he has made no move to fight. ❝ it's not right to sneak up on people— noah or not. ❞
