It started with a chuckle, but then Sylus practically exploded with laughter. He did so enjoy a sense of humor! And it was all the funnier to him to know that those words were said so seriously. Not a joke. Ah, but one man's joke is another man's lament. Sylus simply smiled so perfectly, so sharply, so very content and so unbothered. "I did? And what about you? Aren't you defying the laws of nature by playing with life and death? I'd say your crimes are more serious than mine." He, with crossed arms, shrugged, a little too amused by the argument Damon wanted to start. "Oh, but you're missing the point to begin with. If people want you because you did something, good or bad, it still counts as wanting you. I desire as much as I want to be desired, so let all the world desire me for all the hell I'd unleash on it. I'd be amused, at the very least."

there's  a  short  period  of   (  patient  )   silence    /    calm  before  the  storm.    death  is  empty  that  way,   half - dreaming  and  half - waking  and  whatever  it  is  when  alma's  looking  over  someone's  shoulder.    death  is  empty  and  it  clings  to  the  necromancer ,   a  candle  in  a  sea  of  void  that  alma  can't  seem  to  stop  returning  to.      ❝  what are you  reading ?  ❞    comes  saccharine  hum,   the  ghost  of  fingers  brushing  along  the  back  of  his  neck—   peering  just  far  enough  over  his  shoulder  to  see  the  page.    a  plaintive  whine  follows,      ❝  ugh,   how  boring. don't you have anything better to read ? ❞
