That’s an exaggeration. What was invented in the 16th century was mercantilism. Capitalism really dates for the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the rise of industry and cash crops over artisans and merchants. Vulture capitalism, with the notion that companies have no duties other than generating profit, is even younger.

I think a lot of this comes from the fact that most people don’t know the formal definition of capitalism. We all know the word, we’ve all seen the jokes, but very few people bother to actually define it unless they’re talking about political theory and philosophy, so it’s easy to end up with the impression that Capitalism = Money Can Be Exchanged For Goods And Services.

Capitalism is the economic system where most of the means of production (i.e. everything people need to have to make the stuff that everyone wants) are owned by private individuals or corporations, who then hire people to provide the labor necessary to produce things, with the intent of selling the output at a profit. It’s the difference between “you’re a carpenter and you make a chair and you sell it” and “you’re Richard Q. Richington who owns a chair factory, and you pay people to sell the chairs you paid other people to make and then all the excess money goes back to you.” There have been Richard Q. Richingtons on and off throughout history, but that being the norm for every single industry is a pretty recent development.

We have decided that Jing was mildly transphobic until Sandra forced him to go to therapy, where he met and fell in love with a trans man.

(The transphobia was caused by his very traditional mother, who committed infidelity)

And all of the siblings are protective of Roxanne, and she is the least favorite child of the sperm donor, but not because she's trans, that's just an extra detail

Castle also just buys gender affirming clothes for his trans siblings

Castle’s clothes are unmarked and look oddly suspicious, the first time Roxanne gets one she thinks it’s a bomb (it was a cute floral dress he thought she’d like) and the reason Sandra convinced Jing to go to therapy was because he was an affair baby which is what caused his mom and her husband to divorce, she resented him for it and never let him forget it and Sandra thought he needed help in therapy so he wouldn’t resent himself for his mother’s affair too, he didn’t expect to meet his future husband there, but it helped him and Roxanne rebuild their relationship after his past transphobia

If I tell you this is a horror dance number it still won't prepare you. That last move was so terrifying even the judge was like "Let go! Let go!" If you told me they're actually possessed I'd believe you.

The music is a remix of the song Mere Dholna from the Bollywood movie Bhool Bhulaiyya, a remake of the classic Malayalam horror-comedy Manichitrathazhu. It's about a young bride that seemingly becomes possessed of Manjulika, a dancer of the ancient royal court whose tragic death has turned her into a vengeful spirit, one who evokes the wrath of the goddess Durga Kali. In the iconic scene that is repeated across remakes, the groom and his family discover his bride dancing in the dead of night in a manic, disassociative fugue, wearing a moth-eaten dancer's costume and a face smeared in kohl, ash and vermilion. She's hallucinating that she's Manjulika dancing carefree for the court with her lover. The upbeat music is deliberately incongruous with the pathos and creepiness of the scene in reality, especially as it crescendos in the bride's head to the moment when the king decapitates Manjulika's beloved in a fit of jealous rage.

This specific number is by the all-male troupe B Unique, performed for the Indian reality talent contest Hunabaarz. It's a modern fusion based on Bharatnatyam that turns up the creep factor by 200% and is basically a showcase of contortionism and synchronicity. One of the most perfectly choreographed and executed dances I have ever seen. Truly incredible!

The group is still taking their work across the world's talent shows. And yes, that guy is hypermobile enough to do that with his neck. XD

Quick things I gathered about Animal Hospital lore/in general!(aka me spouting obvious shit)

Based on the text on the highway sign and the emergency room sign on the hospital building, the last names of some of the characters being japanese(there might be some in other languages but im noticing a lot of Japanese), and Dr.Harlow's species(mujac deer) being native to south and Southeast Asia—It is very likely(in fact completely obvious) that the game takes place somewhere in Asia. South and or North Korea is probably where it as Japanese is taught in both countries, and there is a Japanese population in those places. (It also seems like the community around the hospital is mainly Japanese.)

Secret Agent seems like they are there to investigate what's really happening in the hospital and don't seem to be truly working under Animalcorp.

Intern is a little freak(umbrella term).

Intern either has 3 identical siblings, can change colours like an LED light, or can multiply. or im thinking to deeply into this and I need to shut up.

Secret Agent would either distrust or full on despise Intern at first because Intern feels like they're some fuckass anomaly that dr. Harlow decided to keep because "Hey! they're just a silly little guy!"

Everyone in the game is probably not speaking English.

I don't think any of the classes genders were confirmed.

Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.

If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.

And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.

So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:

I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."

This works. I have used it in other situations. If medical staff have to document and take responsibility and be on the hook legally for doing shady shit they behave much differently.

If you weren’t already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because it’s applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.
