Worldbuilding!

Not too much here (hopefully), but in short:

In this universe, there are lots of different Worlds that Players inhabit, and then there is the Centre World, where most Players are born and raised.

The Void is what connects all the Worlds together, and it is endless.

Admins are Players who have the ability to find Worlds, as new ones are constantly appearing, and make them capable of sustaining more than one Player, along with monitoring how the Code of the World.

Code is what makes up everything, however the Void is the absence of Code, and is therefore deadly and can result in permadeath for Players.

No one knows whether the Astral Beings - Watchers, Listeners, and Speakers - are made of Code, but considering that They are not alive, it is believed that They are not connected to Code in the same way that everyone else is.

Players have the ability to pull up a screen of information that contains chats (communication between themselves and other Players), the Worlds they have access to, and other useful things such as coordinates.

There are beings who are neither Astral Beings, nor Players.

There are Voidwalkers, who are solitary people who have a strong connection to the Void and Code.

There are Sensers, who were thought to be Players, but further research has proved that they are something Else.

Enderians and Elytrians are elusive, family-orientated people who almost exclusively live in the End.

There are Demons and Angels and Gods, who are believed to be Players who developed into something more over time.

Languages - There is Common, the language that almost everyone speaks, and there are lots of species-specific languages as well. There is also Galactic, the language associated with the Void and Code, as it is the language that Code is made up of.

It is not impossible for someone to fall into the Void and survive, but cases are few and far between. Often, it is Voidwalkers and/or Admins who save those who fall, as they have a slightly higher resistance to the Void than the average person.

But in the case that someone is saved and lives, they often show negative symptoms such as:

Being eager to fall back into the Void. This is because the Void does have a protective and safe nature about it, even though it is deadly.

Absent-mindedness/disassociation/derealization are also common, largely because of the enormity of the Void and the affects of being nearly destroyed can have on someones mind.

Difficulties with breathing are common, as it is impossible to breathe in the Void

Flashbacks are common, as the intense pain and near-death experience is incredibly traumatic for the individual who falls

Missing aspects of Code/missing limbs/having many scars is also common, because the Void is actively tearing apart one's Code and therefore, it is almost guaranteeed that someone will loose something.

More Language Things

Watcher Names + Listeners Names all have important meanings and symbolism.

Examples:

The name 'Xiaya' can mean either Two or Last, depending on the context.

The name 'Xylia' means One.

The name 'Xilqi' means Memory or Past

The name 'Xelqua' means Three, or in certain contexts Third or even Sun.

Turned Watchers + Listeners, and the Speakers

Almost all Watchers and Listeners were created by the Void or Themselves, but there are exceptions.

In total, there are around three to four Turned Listeners, and only one Turned Watcher. There is also one half-Watcher who was unintentionally Turned.

The Turning process is complicated but in short, the Watchers place a piece of 'Corrupted' Code in the Player that is to be Turned's Core, which slowly changes the Player into something Else.

As Watchers have no need for a physical form, the physical form dies, leaving the consciousness of the Player to, in their last moments, choose to let go and die or be Turned.

Oftentimes They choose Players to be Turned by testing if they are protective enough to become one of Them.

The Speakers, on the other hand, can only be Turned through a process no one knows anything about. It is possibly related to how good They are at fighting.

History:

At first, there was only the Void. No one knows where the Void came from or why it exists, all everyone knows is that the Void is and always has been, and always will be.

Many, many, many thousands of years ago, the Void created the Watchers. Beings intended for the sole purpose of Watching, and to protect.

One thing was missing.

The Void didn't understand love or empathy or compassion, or the idea that other beings could have emotions beside itself. It simply was, and felt nothing.

And so, by extension, neither did the Watchers. But noticing the connections that formed between Themselves, They began to wonder if it was possible for Them to care about others, and if it was possible for someone else to care more than They Themselves did, to care for everyone on some level.

And so They created the Listeners.

And then, the Worlds.

Then the Players. A huge variety of people who loved and cared and felt compassion and understood each other.

The first two Watchers to be created - known as Original Watchers - One and Two - Saw that the Players, despite having such little power, were undeniably happy and content with their lives, that seemed so meaningless to the ones Watching above.

No one's quite sure what lead to it. Perhaps jealousy. Perhaps some morbid kind of curiousty.

But They decided it would be... Interesting, if They could See if the Players were even capable of doing something evil, or if they were capable of feeling sad and angry.

And they were.

But there was a slight... Side affect. Something unintended happen. Multiple unintended things happened.

One good, one bad.

The good thing? Some Watchers began to understand. To care more. They integrated into society as Players-with-more-power, and eventually lead to the creation of Sensers, Players with distant Watcher or Listener heritage that let them access some of Their powers.

The bad thing? The majority of the Watchers discovered that the taste of pain was addicting. And so They created more and more torment for the Players just to draw out that negativity, and as time progressed, it developed into something less of a want and more of a need for Them.

It became something that, if They tried to fight, would consume Their mind, taking over and causing more harm.

So They gave up fighting.

And that's what life was for centuries, millenia.

And then the Speakers appeared. Out of the blue, with no clear cause - another Being, with more power than the Listeners or the Watchers.

With Their appearance, another thing occured.

These... Hindrances occured.

The Watchers were now hindered in Their ability to listen, and Their ability to speak - no longer could They lie.

The Listeners were now hindered in Their ability to watch, and Their ability to speak - no longer could They tell the truth.

The Speakers were hindered in Their ability to watch and listen.

Although none of Them completely lost any senses, They were weaker in specific senses then They had been before.

But the Watchers and Listeners never even tried to fight the Speakers. They knew that was a fight They could never win.

For many millennia, life continued. A hesitant agreement occured - the Speakers left those cared for by Watchers or Listeners alone, and the Watchers and Listeners kept quiet about Them.

Though They hated it, the Watchers and Listeners were on the same side - the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

But secrets can only be kept for so long, and eventually, the Speakers decided that They didn't want to keep Their existence a secret anymore.

The Watchers and Listeners blamed the others and began to fight... Completely unaware that the Speakers had wanted for something like that to happen, had wanted to sew distrust among even the most powerful of Beings.

Many more years passed, and all of Them built up separate reputations:

The Listeners were the occasional saviours - protecting Players from the Watchers, but always at a cost. But They were more compassionate towards Players as a whole than the other two.

The Watchers were dangerous, and most definitely manipulative. Even the ones that did understand Players could be dangerous because of what lengths They were willing to go to to protect Their Players.

The Speakers were even worse. They were so manipulative and good at tricking others that not only is it Their strength, but it is something that divided everyone as a whole. Anyone you know could be a Speaker, anyone you know could be one of Them and trying to hurt you.

There were rumours of a Speaker that wasn't like the rest of Them, but no evidence ever emerged.

Until one day, twenty thousand years before the story begins, They disappeared, and everyone was safe again.
