eleanor wants to run away & live in peaceful obscurity with the man she (think she) loves, & madi wants to die fighting. but in both cases these outcomes require their husbands submitting to circumstances outside of their control or even admitting that circumstances are out of their control in the first place. so eleanor dies fighting & madi has to go be somebody's little wife
