Make Estinien and Thancred & Urianger cryptids you run into randomly around both Yok and Xak Tural during Dawntrail. Maybe even occasionally all showing up together getting a drink in a Shaaloani saloon.

Extend this to the First, Ryne (& Gaia once done with the Eden chain) popping up in random places around Norvrandt doing the work of rebuilding the world.

Have it happen on a regional scale for various favorite city leaders. Wuk Lamat and Koana could be seen throughout their realm as well, separately or together. Lady Lillira seen in various locales around Thanalan (Pipin and/or Papashahn not far behind). Aymeric getting more than in disguise Firmament patrol duties (though I admit those are hilarious, especially considering it's a joke between him and Estinien that our dragoon pal likely didn't think Aymeric'd take seriously; it's exactly the kinda nonsense soldier buddies pull). Lyse and Raubahn out and about across Gyr Abania. Merlwyb performing random inspections in places. Kann-E and her guards wandering the forest. Hien and Yugiri have a lot of work to do around Yanxia.

The Ironworks have offices in a few places around Eorzea; Revenant's Toll (Actually does Jessie still sometimes wander in to talk to Rowena? I'll have to check), Rhalgr's Reach, a corner in Ishgard, Terncliffe, they've done work in Sharlayan now. Have our fave inventors appear at those places at random.

It wouldn't preclude their inclusion in future plot, either, the same way Alpha & Omega's ramblings don't affect their quest chains. Characters like the Scions would need updating whenever one is in a patch or expac where their status changes, but that happens anyway when they are in the world in a static location for a while.
