If your response to a trans woman saying she’s straight is to make a joke about spaghetti or to ask if she’s sure, I want you to know that you’re gross. You aren’t helping, you’re telling us that our sexualities are not serious to you.

why is being on pace so important for every study program? why do they care about complicated assignments and scores and deadlines and limited amount of attempts? if you display skill they should let you pass no?

i put them on my front door and anytime it opens they ring. that way if i think someone has broken in or i see someone who isn’t there i can think back to if the bells have rung, and if they haven’t i can assure myself it’s not real. obviously it’s not fool proof, like if you are prone to auditory hallucinations, but it has really helped me calm down in time to avoid major psychotic breaks. it’s a real lifesaver

The worst people are talking about Hollywood Gladfly's "exposé" on Chloe Zhao's privileged background 🤡

It hardly qualifies as an exposé becos it's not as if Zhao deliberately kept her background secret. It's been up on her wikipeda page since I last checked it in 2021 when Eternals was released. Her parents are public figures in China.

And I think there could be a more productive way to talk about wealth and class privilege and how most, if not all, industries are set up in a way that only allows for wealthier individuals to take risks. There's also a way to talk about Chloe Zhao without ignoring the fact that she's a woc and how difficult it already is for Hollywood to invest in female creators of colour, much less if they are also working class. I think it's important to acknowledge that meritocracy is a myth and that money truly opens doors and offers opportunities, but I'm seeing this article used as a way to dismiss Chloe Zhao's talents as a filmmaker instead of talking about how arts and entertainment industries can do better by working class creatives. It's painful to see a woc's talents be dismissed in a way that her white counterparts of the same privileged backgrounds aren't.

Definitely. I have problems with Nomadland and I do think that Zhao's wealth privilege led to her romanticising gig labour at Amazon warehouses in that film. That is worth side-eyeing and criticism. But it's pretty evident that Hollywood Gadfly's exposé is rooted in bad faith and a reactionary fear of seeing a Chinese woman receiving acclaim and opportunities in Hollywood.

But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting.  Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible.  Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible.  Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.
