i’m a disabled queer person and i still don’t have a place to sleep. the wildfires have put me in a zone where i shouldn’t even be outside, let alone all the time, never mind the 100 degree heat.
i’ve lost an insane amount of weight bc i am not eating, none of my clothes even fit anymore.
i’m working and applying to every job i can while having zero transportation, and only two have been successful, and even then i’m not scheduled enough hours to make enough to survive.

Hi, gays! I spent ALL I had ($350) on my mother's eyes (after 2 surgeries she needed a 3rd, done July 10). My back and leg pain have become worse and more often. We both have chronic health issues. Living on benefits means bills keep happening thanks to emergencies and pure survival. We couldn't prepare, as most of us disabled/financially struggling people can't save money for long.

My mother is 77 years old, she struggles with things "normal" for her age: high blood pressure, cholesterol, trigliceridi, anxiety, sleeping issues, back hernia, allergies and eye problems. I deal with chronic back/leg/feet pain and migraines (also chronic dermatitis, severe anxiety, depression, ocd, possible borderline, and vitamin deficiency to which I need supplements). That being said, we take 10 + meds a day:
Captopril, Losartana, Hidroclorotiazida, Puran t4, Sivastantina, Melatonina, Clonazepam, Duloxetina, eye drops, allergy creams, vitamins (omega 3, vitamin D, b12 and iron), powder replacements + diapers and common painkillers
Benefits + what I make with odd jobs leaves us with more or less $700 monthly, where $300 alone goes to rent, and we can't pay everything else (utensils, medicine, groceries) with only the remaining $400. We end up prioritizing house bills to keep a roof over our heads, but that means food and other necessities are tight.
Working is hard when I deal with daily pain and need to take care of mom. We live in Brasil, my currency is BRL (1 USD = 5 BRL / 1 € = 6 BRL).
Apparently people have bad things to say about those struggling, as if people who "e-beg" do it for fun, or as if it doesn't cause us anxiety when we know something important to us depends on the kindness that might not come. I have seen posts directed at me even. Your lack of sympathy/empathy is your problem and says more about you than about me. In need of this for: mom's check-up rides after surgery (one every week!), Uber money to all exams and other appointments, anxiety meds AND food. for the record im not technially 100% anti-AI, in the sense that its a broad category of tech being lumped under one umbrella term so it feels over-zealous to say i hate all of it all the time forever. but i also think trying to discuss what it actually IS good for is difficult right now when i cant take one step without something trying to convince me to use chatgpt to summarize my life and speed up my hobbies and turn my friends into chatbots and optimize my life into oblivion. i am certain there is nuance to the topic but can we stop cramming the square peg into the round hole before you start trying to sell me on the legitimate benefits of the square peg. please.
here's my super-quick, easy-to-digest summary that i use when i can't spend more than like 15 seconds on it but need someone to know the basic distinctions:
generative AI - bad evil AI. chatbots, LLMs, image generators, etc. this the one that steals shit.
analytical AI - helpful medical AI. this the one that helps detect cancer early.
game "AI" - fake AI. 100% human created and dictated. this the one that determines game mob behavior n stuff.
losing the battle with my own self-control so will briefly comment and say that categorizing certain types of ai as straightforwardly good and other types as "bad evil," even for the sake of summary, doesn't really hold water. just to give two counterexamples to the distinctions drawn above, large language models ("evil") are being used by human rights groups to parse huge datasets about police abuse while analytical ai ("helpful") is also the kind of ai that animates facial recognition software and the increasingly ubiquitous searchable license plate databases that police are using to stalk people. the goodness or badness of a given ai tool has less to do with its type and more to do with things like scale and scope, transparency, ownership, and contextual application.
