I absolutely hate(love) that Blackbeard or Edward Teach cannot be mentioned to me in a historical context without my brain immediately going to Taika’s Blackbeard, and becoming a giggly idiot and kicking my feet in the air.
Random thoughts on rewatching Black Sails Season 1 (part 1):
I'm understanding the story much better than the first time
They foreshadowed the scene in the finale with Silver pointing the gun to Flint to stop him but with Billy in John's place, I need a minute to process it
Eleanor, they could never make me hate you, your desire to build a home after never experiencing safety is totally valid...
still the Maxeleanor's divorce always hurts!
Max, you'll have your happy ending, don't worry
Vane is and will always be a red flag for Eleanor (in my mother tongue there's a better word for him, malessere - this is for the italian fans 👌🏻 -)
Why didn't I remember Billy Bones was kinda ace-coded?
Flint being the gay supportive uncle to Eleanor will always be precious to me
I'm enjoying better this version of Calico Jack after watching the 'Our Flag Means Death' one (also in italian he's voiced by Aziraphale's VA and he - Alessio Cigliano - is always great in everything)
The way Anne Bonny manages to obtain the audience's attention by simply being present in a scene without talking... a good way to increase the hype around her
Gates, my man, they don't pay you enough for dealing with James's shit (the scene where they have to find an agreement with Vane and Jack... comedy peak)
Miranda I get you're bored, but flirting with the priest... you deserve better
They are already calling Charlotte's storyline!
I'm not ready for the reveal of Thomas's backstory
They foreshadowed Blackbeard's relationship with Vane this early?
Flint looking at Silver *This kid stands up to me but at the same time wants my trust at all cost to save his ass... kinda cute*
in another life we're all friends
"i just dont get how jax is trans"
They must have paid thousands of dollars to license "isnt she lovely" and then synced it to 15 different shots of jax. did we watch the same show‽

I watched the Rita Ora interview on Davina McCall's podcast because I had found the clip of her telling about her proposal to Taika and I wanted to see the whole context...
she revelead that Taika was the one who fell first and in spite of wanting to go home earlier, he stayed up late at parties with her hoping she'd get he was interested, but she initially believed he wanted to party all night long...
This is so cute because if you know her song 'You Only Love Me' where she sings about her fear that he only loved her at the start of their relationship because they both had fun together due to all her past bad experiences, it's giving off romance/fanfiction vibes with a little of initial miscommunication, BUT...
it also made me think about how Taika doesn't overtly express his love for her with words rather than with actions such as letting her take the spotlight in public events, helping her with her career directing some of her most recent videoclips, learning her mother tongue or always showing to be really interested when it's her turn to talk in couple-interviews (he always jokes to be a textbook Leo, but he doesn't have the need to be always at the centre of attention at the expense of others)
This and a lot of other cute moments (see their interview at Vogue Australia in 2023) make me wonder why some people dislikes this couple so much because from what they said about each other and from what they showed us, they seem like a pretty solid couple
Same anon as earlier. Sorry, I didn't explain my question very well. I think Viola will be a fine ruler, definitely better than Momo and better than Riku, since she actually took action to help plan and accomplish the resistance.
I was thinking more about how the citizens pushed Riku to retake the throne specifically because of his personal past accomplishments as the anti-war king. While his dynasty was generally anti-war, the citizens and Elizabetto seemed to regard him as particularly skilled at preventing war. To me, it felt more like the citizens wanted to return to their idealized past under Riku as a response to the horror of Doflamingo's unearthed tyranny.
Do you think the citizens would have trusted Viola to the same degree just because of her dynasty? Would the former toys (who worked with her as part of the resistance) convince the rest of the citizens? Would her time as an officer corrupt her image?
it would take some finessing, but Viola would have the support of any other realistic candidate (Rebecca and Kyros) as well as the tontattas and the Straw Hats. Word would spread how she betrayed Doffy, and how she was blackmailed into serving in the first place. The whole populous was manipulated by the toy memory stuff, so I think they’d be receptive. It doesn’t hurt that canonically Viola is good at selling a sob story.
There might be a little hesitancy there, but I don’t think it would take long for Viola to win over the people. And really, who else is there to challenge her for the throne?

Thinking about Fujitora's speech at the end of the Dressrosa arc. How he wonders what Luffy looks like. What his hair color is. What his eyes look like. How his smile is.
Luffy is a rather plain character. He doesn't have any extraordinary features that make him stand out like the rest of his crew. He doesn't have any special hair color. No body modifications. He is pure human through and through. He has some scars, sure, but who doesn't?
Luffy isn't anything special to look at, but he does look kind because he is kind. He looks blunt because he is blunt. He doesn't care about his looks. He only cares about his friends, their dreams, and his own.
He looks simple because he is simple.
Doflamingo never revealing his eyes working on so many levels. First, obviously, the Look. The swagger. But then there’s also the obvious allusion to how he literally keeps the world at a distance, always looking at it through glass, always that little bit removed. The eyes being a window to someone’s humanity —> his celestial dragon birthright and how he casts off his own humanity in favor of cruelty. The way it emphasizes his control in a situation, no one truly being able to look him in the eye, always metaphorically and physically looking down at people, never looking them in the eyes so to speak. Then there’s the parallel between him and Fujitora — two people who have witnessed hell and the depths of humanity’s cruelty, and have chosen in different ways to ‘blind’ themselves to it. The intentional removal of their eyes from the narrative
And then of course there’s the tint. Doflamingo literally sees the world through tinted glasses. First, the metaphorical rose-colored shade of his youth, expecting complete and utter control over and subservience / reverence from people. Then, after what happens to him and his family, with literal blood-dark sunglasses, still tinted as ever, except that now all he sees is cruelty
Meanwhile, his brother Rosinante also had his eyes covered when he was a child, but when we meet him as an adult they’re opened. He’s seen the world for what it is
I think this is actually what Oda means when he jokes that even if he took the sunglasses off, another would appear. Doflamingo — at heart, pathologically, psychologically, or perhaps some mix of all three — is someone who needs that control over his vision of the world. And he can’t give it up. Even if he tries, even if it’s ripped for him, he will simply provide himself with a new point of view that will continue to let him do whatever he wants. He can evolve, he can grow new feathers, but he never really changes
At his core he’s still that spoiled child demanding everybody love and adore him, and all that trauma did was reinforce his need for it. It only made him grip it tighter
What a tragedy
Honestly we've been ROBBED off a connection between Sanji and Baby5 because they have similar scars of childhood neglect, and it manifests into their adult life as this visceral craving of being needed by other people even at the expanse of their own wellbeing but at the same time sanji has this habit of building other people up meanwhile baby5 is very devoted and nurturing towards the one who gives her attention and it'd be heartwarming to watch them interact because they would've understood each other's behavior on a deeper level and be able to form a beautiful healing bond
learning that sabo has no memory of ace and luffy for a decade was devastating. he had forgotten the training, the pranks they pulled, they promises they made. sabo forgot he had two brothers and only remembered the day ace died.
once sabo read the paper saying ace was dead, all those memories and promises came rushing back. seeing him breakdown & panic was heartbreaking. for so long, sabo lived his life with no idea where he came from or who is family was. sabo found his brothers & lost one of them on the same day.
“thank you for being alive, luffy”
seeing how relieved sabo was that luffy was alive made me so emotional. luffy felt so guilty over not being able to save ace but sabo was just so happy to find luffy alive. it took 10 years for sabo to remember his brothers but now he’ll never forget them. it was a miracle that sabo remembered ace & luffy to begin with, so being able to reunite with his youngest brother is everything to him. in a way, ace brought the two brothers together again. the scenes between sabo & luffy are so beautiful. even after so many years, the two have never stopped loving each other. no amount of time, amnesia, and distance can change the bond between these brothers. now that sabo has ace’s flame flame fruit, it’s like the three of them are still connected.
ace promised to look after luffy when sabo “died” and now, it’s sabo’s turn to look after their younger brother. the bond between ASL can never end even in death. they will always be together!!

You don't have to force yourself to bounce back so quickly. I read something recently that said "when you come in from a rainstorm, you don't expect yourself to be dry and warm right away", and it really resonated with me. It's okay to take time to dry off and warm up. Take the time you need to process what happened to you.
