Michael J. Fox Says He Almost Lost His Hand Due to an Infection.
Michael J. Fox Reveals Ongoing Health Struggles Beyond Parkinson's Diagnosis
In a recent interview with Town & Country magazine, Michael J. Fox, well-known for his candidness about his Parkinson's disease battle, shed light on various medical challenges he's faced in recent years. The Back to the Future actor detailed a series of unfortunate incidents, including breaking his arm and shoulder, sustaining injuries to his orbital bone and cheek, and almost losing his hand due to a severe infection.
Fox referred to this string of health issues as a "tsunami of misfortune." In his 2020 book, "No Time Like the Future," he disclosed a spinal tumour unrelated to Parkinson's that posed a risk of paralysis in 2018. Following surgery and extensive physical therapy, he managed to regain his ability to walk, albeit with difficulties. Shortly after, he had an accident in his apartment, resulting in another broken arm.
In a separate interview with CBS Sunday Morning earlier this year, Fox emphasised the danger of falling for those with Parkinson's, highlighting its potential complications, such as aspirating food and developing pneumonia. He explained, "You don't die from Parkinson's; you die with Parkinson's." Despite these challenges, he remained philosophical about his mortality, stating that he doesn't expect to live to 80.
While he acknowledged the uncertainty of the future, Fox expressed his lack of fear about what lies ahead. He remarked that when the time comes, he'll accept it, saying, "One day I'll run out of gas, one day I'll just say, 'It's not going to happen. I'm not going out today.'" He further mentioned, "I'm 62 years old. Certainly, if I were to pass away tomorrow, it would be premature, but it wouldn't be unheard of. And so, no, I don't fear that."
In addition to his interviews, a documentary titled "Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie," released in May, delves into Fox's life story, chronicling his childhood, rise to Hollywood stardom in the '80s, and his ongoing battle with Parkinson's disease.

Beloved Friends Actor Matthew Perry Passes Away at the Age of 54
Matthew Perry, renowned for his iconic role on the beloved TV show Friends, has passed away at the age of 54.
The tragic news of Perry's demise was initially reported on Saturday (October 28) by the Los Angeles Times and TMZ. Emergency services discovered him unresponsive at his residence in California.
A spokesperson from the Los Angeles Fire Department disclosed that they had responded to an unspecified "water emergency" at a private address in Pacific Palisades. Although the statement did not specify Perry's name, the investigation is ongoing, and no additional confirmed details are currently available.
The news of Perry's passing has prompted tributes from Warner Bros and NBC, the production and broadcasting companies behind Friends. Warner Bros released a heartfelt statement, expressing their devastation: "We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry. Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family. The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans."
NBC, the network that aired Friends, also expressed their sorrow, noting, "We are incredibly saddened by the too soon passing of Matthew Perry. He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with his pitch-perfect comedic timing and wry wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations."
Born in August 1969, Perry's career in acting began at the age of 15, after initially considering a path as a professional tennis player. He had early roles in US sitcoms such as Second Chance (later known as Boys Will Be Boys), Growing Pains, and Sydney. However, it was his role as Chandler Bing on Friends that catapulted him to international stardom. Chandler's character was known for his dry, sharp, and occasionally brutal sense of observational humour, along with numerous iconic one-liners. Chandler's humour served as a defence mechanism, influenced by the breakdown of his parents' relationship during his childhood.
In later seasons of Friends, Chandler fell in love with and married Monica Geller, the sister of his college roommate, Ross. He ultimately quit his career in data analysis to pursue advertising. The series concluded with Chandler and Monica adopting twins and relocating from New York City to the suburbs, with Perry delivering the final line of the series, "Where?" In 2002, Perry received a Primetime Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Chandler. He also appeared in movies such as The Whole Nine Yards and Fools Rush In.
Perry went on to take leading roles in TV series like Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Odd Couple. He also made guest appearances in popular series, including The West Wing, The Good Wife, its spin-off The Good Fight, and Ally McBeal. Additionally, he portrayed politician Ted Kennedy in the miniseries The Kennedys: After Camelot. In 2016, he wrote and starred in The End of Longing, a West End play exploring the quest for meaning in one's forties.
In a conversation with the Daily Mail about the play, which later moved to Broadway, Perry described his character Jack as "an exaggerated form of myself" and not autobiographical. He joined his Friends co-stars for a long-awaited reunion in 2021, reflecting on the cultural impact of the series. In the same year, Perry published his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, offering candid reflections on his acting career and personal life, including his battle against addiction.
Perry's Friends co-stars and friends in the entertainment industry also expressed their condolences on social media. Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice, Chandler's on-again, off-again partner in Friends, shared her thoughts: "What a loss. The world will miss you, Matthew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your too-short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared."
Selma Blair, who shared a recent photo with Perry, also mourned the loss: "My oldest boy friend. All of us loved Matthew Perry, and I did especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he me. And I'm broken. Brokenhearted. Sweet dreams, Matty. Sweet dreams."

David McCallum of 'NCIS' and 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' Fame Passes Away at 90.
David McCallum, best remembered for his roles as Illya Kuryakin in the 1960s spy series "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard on "NCIS", passed away from natural causes in New York City at age 90.
Peter McCallum, on behalf of the family, expressed their grief and recounted cherished memories of his father: “A loving and dedicated father, he cherished moments with his grandchildren. He had a deep bond, especially with his youngest grandson, Whit. David was a multifaceted man, having the capability to conduct an orchestra and, due to his role in NCIS, perform an autopsy. His wife's lament about not having the chance to age together reflects their enduring bond."
During the 1960s, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.", which saw Vaughn and McCallum combat the nefarious THRUSH organisation, made significant cultural waves. This series led to spin-offs and movies featuring the two stars.
McCallum reprised his role as Kuryakin in a 1983 TV movie, and a 2015 feature adaptation directed by Guy Ritchie saw Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer take up the iconic roles.
On "NCIS", McCallum's Dr. Mallard played a pivotal role, offering forensic insights while adding a mix of humour and drama to the series. Following his passing, CBS expressed their deep sorrow, praising McCallum for his remarkable talent, his stories, and his infectious warmth.
With a career spanning over six decades, McCallum described his love for acting in a 2012 Variety interview, emphasising the dedication required to bring his character to life, especially with intricate medical jargon.
Apart from his acclaimed roles, McCallum lent his voice to animated series and video games. Born into a family of musicians in Glasgow, he initially ventured into music but soon shifted to acting, kickstarting his career at the age of 12 with BBC radio.
His cinematic journey began in the 1950s and included notable roles in films like “The Great Escape” and “The Greatest Story Ever Told”. Throughout the years, he appeared on numerous TV shows and also dabbled in music, releasing albums in the 1960s.
McCallum also tried his hand at writing, with his mystery novel "Once a Crooked Man" published in 2016.
His legacy survives through his wife, Katherine McCallum, four children, and eight grandchildren.
For those wishing to honour David McCallum's memory, donations can be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
