sometimes that character just wouldnβt hide an injury. itβs a great trope but only if they would do that.
and sometimes the character wouldnβt try to push through sickness and do their day job or whatever. again i see what youβre going for but sometimes in these fics something else can happen. open your hearts and minds to scenarios such as βthe character is actually pretty expressive about their needs and is willing to complain a lot but the other characters still donβt take it that seriously for whatever reason and have to deal with the guilt and quencies afterβ. or βthe character takes a rest at the appropriate time (or earlier!) but then faces punishment/being ignored/hostility for doing so and that is what worsens their condition into a serious one.β or βthe character is a practical one who informs people sensibly and takes every necessary step, yet to their distress their condition still spirals out of the control.β or whatever else but just do you see what iβm saying not every character is a silent sufferer and that isnβt the only way to put them in a situation . we can innovate
i love pleasantly unpleasant sensory experiences. getting tattooed. eating a too-big dollop of wasabi and feeling like i've been kicked in the face. being outside when it is very very cold and a little kiss of frigid air slipping between my glove and coat sleeve. people say building discomfort tolerance is important because discomfort is an inevitable part of life, and that's true, but discomfort can also be a source of joy and part of what makes life worth living.

"A sign installed in the largest wildfire burn Iβve ever seen, along the BC/YK border. Borrowing the aesthetics of BC Recreation Site signs, once again pointing to the overlaps of outdoor recreation, resource extraction, and the consequences of the climate crisis. Most recreation sites in BC exist along previously built logging and mining roads.
βForced into a great and difficult transformationβ was a line I heard in a lecture on Buddhist philosophy I was listening to on my drive up north. But it became another mantra I thought about while living in a place thatβs been utterly transformed by resource extraction over the past century, and as I thought about the burnt landscapes I drove through."

This is one of the cutest Data momens IMO and I've never heard anyone talk about it
'theatre is dying' okay but everyone is flocking to see a beautiful hit musical now that it's been released in the cinema, something more affordable and accessible to most people, and ticket sales in the west end in particular have spiked
'cinema is dying' okay but everyone is flocking to their local cinema to see a beautiful hit musical, and so many have shown up this weekend that licensers decided to extend its theatrical release for another week, a massive rarity in the current climate
maybe the answer to saving art is... seeing art?? and making art accessible??
The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and theyβre frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.
Iβm sorry but thatβs thinking way too small, hear me out:
We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.
Think about itβ¦ whoβs the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a momentβs notice?
It ainβt Kermit
"Who stabbed you in the eye, Polyphemus?" "Moi! Moi stabbed me!" "He stabbed himself. Sad."
They could never make me hate you, complex female character whose reaction to trauma was not pretty and digestible like how people think it should be.

The Little Art Connoisseur (1863) August Friedrich Siegert
Last time this came around I showed my three year old and he said "He's little like me!" and stared for a whole minute (v. Long in toddler time).

Dragongirl kidnaps a maid instead of a princess by mistake; comes back to her lair after a hunt to find the coins and gems in her hoard have been organized into neat piles sorted by type, value, and kingdom of origin.
Her princess is a little special but she'll keep her around.
WHUH??? THIS IS SO CUTE???

Being able to draw older people as attractive without reducing or erasing the visual signs of aging, and in fact showing that they're attractive because of those signs, is an artistic skill that should be valued so much more. Honestly, it should earn you an immediate fortune because holy fuck is it a rare commodity. There are so many artists who seem to think attractiveness and aging exist in opposition to each other, so they smooth every wrinkle, erase every crease, and de-age the character until they're basically thirty with silver hair. But when an artist can look at crow's feet, smile lines, weathered skin, deep-set wrinkles, and all the little traces of a life well lived and say, "No, that's what makes them beautiful," that's a level of artistic observation and care I wish we celebrated more often.
